Chapter 674 Take the Medication

After leaving the hospital, Rachel had no idea she was being watched.

She pulled her hat low over her eyes and made her way to a nearby bus stop, hopping on the first bus that came along.

Not far off, a group of rough-looking men loitered, cigarettes dangling from their lips.

โ€œAre you sure itโ€™s her?โ€ the leader asked, his arms covered in intricate tattoos that made it hard to tell what they depicted.

Eric Roberts, a hefty man with a round belly, chimed in, โ€œOur guyโ€™s been keeping an eye on her for a while. Andyโ€™s been lurking around, showing up near her now and then. Heard he even took out some guy named Yinson recently, all to settle a score for her.โ€

The leader asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s her story? Any idea?โ€

โ€œSeems like sheโ€™s a fallen heiress. Her whole familyโ€™s gone, and sheโ€™s all alone now,โ€ Eric replied, scratching his belly and grinning foolishly. He added, โ€œDaniel, I gotta say, sheโ€™s got some looks. Maybe Andyโ€™s got a thing for her. You know what they say, right? Heroes and beautiful women donโ€™t mix well.โ€

โ€œHero? Please. Andyโ€™s no hero!โ€ Daniel scoffed, spitting on the ground as disdain flashed in his eyes at the mention of Andy.

Eric nodded in agreement. โ€œYou got that right! He canโ€™t hold a candle to you, Daniel.โ€

Danielโ€™s smirk widened at the compliment. โ€œIn that case, letโ€™s grab this woman. You think Andy would be willing to cough up that shipment heโ€™s been hoarding for us?โ€

Eric scratched his head, considering. โ€œHard to say. Andyโ€™s not the type to sacrifice anything for anyone. The word on the street is that heโ€™s cold as ice. Using a woman to control him? I donโ€™t know, man.โ€

โ€œDamn it!โ€ Daniel spat out, irritation etched across his face. โ€œI canโ€™t stand Andy! He dares to steal my goods? Iโ€™ll show him whoโ€™s boss! What about all those men we lost?โ€

Eric urged, โ€œTake it easy, Daniel! Weโ€™ve had our issues with Andy for a while now, but weโ€™ve made it through. Weโ€™ll figure it out.โ€

Daniel frowned, feeling that something was off. He thought, โ€œA woman whoโ€™s got Andy so worked up must be something special. Heโ€™s not one to let emotions cloud his judgment. But heโ€™s been around her a lot, even helping her out behind the scenesโ€ฆ Does he like her? If he did, he wouldโ€™ve snatched her up by now. Why all the fuss? Could it beโ€ฆโ€

A light bulb went off in Danielโ€™s head. โ€œDig deeper into her background! See if she has any siblings or something!โ€

โ€œGot it!โ€ Eric nodded eagerly.

After several bus transfers, Rachel finally made it back to the villa. She could have taken a cab, but she worried that Chandlerโ€™s people might be on her trail, so she opted for a longer route instead.

Inside the villa, a maid was there to look after her needs.

โ€œMs. Morgan, youโ€™re back,โ€ the maid greeted her as she stepped through the door.

โ€œYeah,โ€ Rachel replied.

She poured herself a glass of water and hurried to her room, shutting the door behind her. Without hesitation, she swallowed the medication the doctor had prescribed, washing it down with the water.

โ€œRachel, what are you taking?โ€

A voice suddenly broke the silence, startling her so much that she nearly dropped her glass.

She frowned and glanced toward the bed.

It was Christopher.

Rachel had been so focused on taking her medication to deal with the kid growing inside her that she hadnโ€™t even looked at the bed, completely unaware that Christopher was there.

Setting her glass down, she replied, โ€œOh, itโ€™s nothing serious, just a little cold.โ€

To emphasize her point, she coughed lightly, trying to sound convincing.

As soon as Christopher heard she was sick, he shot up from the bed. He reached out to touch her forehead, concern etched across his face. โ€œWith the temperatures dropping lately, I hope youโ€™re not running a fever.โ€

He pressed his forehead against hers, searching her eyes for signs of illness.

Rachel instinctively turned her head away, avoiding his touch. โ€œIโ€™m fine. Just a bit of a sore throat.โ€

โ€œIs that so?โ€ Christopher said, reaching for the leftover pills she had taken. He wanted to see what she was dealing with.

Rachel didnโ€™t resist. On her way back, she had carefully disposed of the outer packaging, so all he had were a few small tablets.

โ€œWhat kind of medicine is this? Thereโ€™s no label,โ€ he remarked, puzzled.

โ€œItโ€™s just something I picked up at the pharmacy. The clerk said itโ€™s great for colds,โ€ Rachel replied, making up the story on the spot.

Christopher raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical, but he didnโ€™t press the issue further. Instead, he pulled her into his arms, leaning in closer to her lips. โ€œRachel, do you miss me?โ€

He had been caught up in a big business deal lately. Ever since Rachel had moved into the villa, he hadnโ€™t made time to check in on her.

โ€œIโ€™ve wrapped up my work for now, Rachel. Iโ€™m planning to take a break and spend some quality time with you these next few days. Sound good?โ€

As he spoke, his hand gently traced the curve of Rachelโ€™s lower back, sending a rush of warmth through her. His fingertips glided over the soft flesh, and the heat of his breath brushed against her cheek.

With a glint of desire in his eyes, Christopher removed his gold-rimmed glasses, making his intentions all too clear. He wanted nothing more than to claim her right then and there.

Rachel instinctively wanted to push him away, but before she could react, his lips met hers. What should have been a sacred moment between them felt completely wrong to Rachel.

She grabbed his hands, trying to keep him from roaming. โ€œChristopher, Iโ€™m not feeling well. Can we just stop here?โ€

A twinge of pain shot through her abdomen, and she thought, โ€œThis medicine is kicking in way too fast. If this keeps up, I might give myself away. The doctor said no intimacy for at least a month!โ€

But Christopher was relentless, his hands continuing to tease her. โ€œRachel, Iโ€™ve got everything set up. You canโ€™t just back out now.โ€

As she tried to find a way out, she blurted out, โ€œI ran into Chandlerโ€™s wife earlier. What if Chandlerโ€™s people find this place? Do you want to expose us?โ€

Christopher pulled back, surprised. โ€œWhat did you say?โ€

โ€œThis villa is under your name. If they find it, theyโ€™ll easily connect the dots between us. I need to leave right now.โ€

Rachel had a betrothal with Felix, but here she was entangled with Christopher. If word got out, it would ruin him. Not only would Felix be furious, but the Powell family wouldnโ€™t take kindly to it either.

Seizing the moment while Christopher was distracted, Rachel wriggled free from his embrace. โ€œSo, for everyoneโ€™s sake, I need to get out of here.โ€

If Christopher stayed around her for a few days, sheโ€™d be at her witsโ€™ end. Just being near someone she didnโ€™t like made her skin crawl, let alone being intimate. The best solution was to put some distance between them.

Rachelโ€™s words struck a chord with Christopher, who finally understood the gravity of the situation.

โ€œLeave? Where will you go? A hotel? I can drive youโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNo way! There are cameras everywhere. If they catch us together, youโ€™ll be in just as much trouble as I am.โ€

All she wanted was to shake Christopher off her trail. Rachel could feel her body reacting against her will. The effects of the medication were too potent. If she didnโ€™t leave soon, she might just slip up in front of Christopher.
