Chapter 686 You Better Pray She’s Alright!

“The fetus is experiencing oxygen deprivation. We need to perform an emergency C–section.”

After examining Meryl’s condition, the doctor immediately rushed her into the operating room.

“Quick! Get the anesthesiologist here!”

The doctor barked out the order just as the operating room doors swung shut.

Almost simultaneously, Chandler burst out of the elevator, gasping for breath.

His chest heaving, he looked anxiously at Gale waiting outside the operating room. “How is she?”

“The doctor says the baby’s coming. Mrs. Aniston lost a lot of blood.” Gale added solemnly, “Mr. Aniston, if you’d gotten here just one minute earlier, you could have seen Mrs. Aniston.”

Chandler knew that all too well.

His wife was in danger, and he wasn’t by her side! The thought filled him with crushing guilt.

He never imagined Meryl would go shopping at the mall by herself. If he’d known, he would have stayed with her the whole time.

Giving birth was like walking through death’s door, especially after what she’d just been through.

However, as he stood outside the operating room listening to Gale explain everything that had happened, Chandler’s expression grew even darker.

Originally, sending Rocky to prison was meant to rehabilitate him, but after his release, he only became worse.

Chandler slammed his fist against the wall in anger.

Just hearing Gale’s account was enough for him to imagine how terrifying the scene must have been.

How scared must Meryl have been?

A strong sense of guilt gnawed at Chandler, but he knew this wasn’t the time to get caught up in negative emotions.

He had too much to do.

“What about Felix? How is he?”

He owed Felix one. If Felix hadn’t been there to shield Meryl, the consequences would have been unthinkable.

However, Chandler’s expression darkened.

He hadn’t expected Felix to go to such lengths to protect Meryl.

It seemed Felix cared for Meryl far more deeply than he’d realized.

Chandler unconsciously clenched his fists, an inexplicable unease settling in his chest.

Gale shook his head, indicating he didn’t know.

He’d been too focused on this situation to keep track of Felix.

Chandler fell silent for a moment.

The Powell family probably didn’t know about Felix’s injury yet, though given their attitude toward him, they likely wouldn’t care even if they did.

At this moment, Felix must be lying alone in the operating room, with no one by his side.

“When he was brought to the hospital, Mr. Powell couldn’t speak anymore. He was deathly pale, and I heard the emergency doctors say he’d lost too much blood and was in shock. They didn’t think his chances were good.”

The internal medicine and obstetrics departments were in different wings, with Felix undergoing surgery on the other side.

Chandler pressed his lips together, hesitated for a moment, then grabbed his phone and made a call.

“Killian, I have a good friend who’s badly injured. I need your help with the surgery.”

Killian Yanis was a professor–level internist who’d retired from the military. Everyone said he had magic hands when it came to surgery.

However, since transferring to the civilian hospital, he rarely performed operations anymore. Most people couldn’t even get an appointment with him.

With Killian personally operating, Felix’s chances of survival would be much better.

The person on the other end of the line clearly had a good relationship with Chandler, agreeing without hesitation, “Since it’s your friend, of course, I’ll help.”

After hanging up, Chandler leaned against the wall and rubbed his temples.

Walter came out of the elevator. “Boss, Rocky’s been taken to the police station. He’d only been out for a few days before causing trouble again. The sentence will probably be even harsher this time.”

At the mention of Rocky, Chandler’s face turned dark and cold. “A harsher sentence? Someone like him deserves to die! What’s the point of keeping him alive? He’s nothing but a menace!”

Walter could hear the murderous intent in Chandler’s voice.

He lowered his eyes. “There’s something else… Lydia is in this hospital, too. She was there when Mrs. Aniston got hurt…”

Chandler’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

Lydia! He’d warned her to stay in line!

Chandler’s face darkened. “Bring Lydia to me!”

“I’m afraid that’s not possible. She took a fall at the mall and broke some bones. They’re misaligned, and the baby was affected. She’s hospitalized now to prevent a miscarriage."

“Besides, after her fall, Charlotte and the others came to the hospital. It won’t be easy to get to her. They’re all counting on this baby being born.”

Lydia’s frequent hospital stays for pregnancy complications weren’t anything new, but she’d been in cahoots with Rocky years ago. Now Rocky showed up wherever she did… and Meryl got hurt.

There were too many coincidences to be coincidental.

Chandler never believed in coincidences!

“I don’t care if they are protecting her!” Chandler’s rage was impossible to contain. “If she can’t come, then bring her husband!”

Dalton’s heart was already with Meryl, so when he heard Chandler wanted to see him, he hurried over with Walter.

“Uncle, is Aunt about to give birth?” Dalton asked anxiously, glancing at the operating room doors.

Chandler swung his fist, landing a punch square on Dalton’s face.

Dalton’s cheekbone reddened from the blow, “Uncle, why did you hit me?”

“Why don’t you ask your woman? Since Rocky was the one who hurt Meryl, you don’t actually think your Lydia is innocent, do you?”

Chandler’s expression blazed with anger.

Dalton fell silent.

Truth be told, he also suspected Lydia was involved.

But… Lydia was carrying his child.

After she had taken a fall, both Charlotte and Morton were rushed to the hospital.

The doctors said Lydia’s fracture was in a complicated spot that affected the baby. She needed complete bed rest, and because of the baby’s incorrect position, they couldn’t even proceed with treatment.

With a misaligned bone and no possible treatment, Lydia had no choice but to endure the pain.

She writhed in agony on the hospital bed, and the doctors said that if she couldn’t handle it, their only option was to terminate the pregnancy before treating the pain.

But Lydia was only seven and a half months pregnant. Could a baby survive being born that premature?

Morton and Charlotte valued their grandchild greatly, and with the baby’s interests in mind, Lydia had no choice but to grit her teeth through the pain, trying to keep the baby inside as long as possible.

While Dalton didn’t like Lydia and felt no attachment to the baby she carried, he couldn’t help but be moved seeing a woman enduring such suffering just to give birth to his child.

After a few seconds of silence, Dalton promised, “If Lydia was really involved in this, I’ll make it right with you. But not right now.”
