Chapter 126: At the company's regular meeting, Kellan sat at the head of the table, the atmosphere thick with anticipation. Mr. Carman, notoriously selective in the fragrance industry and known for rejecting countless submissions, was satisfied with their work. Other companies had even inquired with his secretary about their success. This meeting was crucial, attended by key executives fully aware of the stakes. Kellan knew Allison deserved the credit and intended to acknowledge her contribution. The project had been brilliantly executed.

The bonus for this achievement would be substantial. Before Allison could respond, Marc stood, puffing out his chest.

"I took the reins on this one," he declared confidently.

Mr. Lloyd, we appreciate the recognition, but it's just part of our role. Honestly, I felt the pressure contacting Mr. Carman, and I'm relieved we succeeded. Supporting the company is our responsibility; bonuses aren't necessary."

His words carefully avoided blatant credit theft while subtly implying his central role. After all, he had initiated contact with Rodrigo and directed the perfume project. However, this attempt to undermine Allison backfired.

"So it was you," Allison said coldly, giving him an indifferent look. She acknowledged his belief that she disliked him, but would have disputed his claim to recognition. He was a supervisor; she held a leadership position. Arguing over praise would be undignified.

The others exchanged disapproving glances, sensing Marc's behavior was unseemly and risky. In a professional setting, taking credit for another's work was unacceptable. His blatant attempt to steal Allison's spotlight raised concerns about his future actions. The atmosphere grew tense.

"Is that true?" Kellan's icy tone cut through the tension.

Allison interjected gently, "It was a collaborative effort."

Kellan, knowing she wasn't seeking the limelight, recognized the need for honesty. "So, by the rules, everyone should receive an increase."

The room was silent, filled with palpable surprise. They realized the rumors about Allison were exaggerated; she wasn't the "ice queen" they'd imagined. She was humble and discreet. Unaware of this shift in perception, Allison prepared to move on to the next project when Sherman burst in, whispering urgently to Kellan, whose expression soured.

"Don't raise the salaries," he said. "We have a problem with the project." He tapped the table with his pen, deflating the cheerful mood. Mr. Carman had complained.

Kellan's gaze landed on Marc. "The fragrance was fine, but only 4,500 of the 5,000 additional bottles were delivered. We need the remaining 500 within a day." His eyes narrowed. "This isn't your project, Marc. How could you make such a mistake? Did you forget your arithmetic?"

Marc, pale and sweating, tried to defend himself. "I supervised initially, but... Ms. Clarke made the final decision! It's not my fault."

Instead of praise, he found himself cornered, desperately trying to avoid blame, instinctively shifting responsibility to Allison. ...
