Chapter 260
As the man finished his sentence, a deafening roar of gunfire erupted from both sides, plunging the air into chaos. Bang! Bang! Bang! Kellan fired three shots while backpedaling, seeking cover behind a nearby structure. His aim was cold and precise; he effortlessly took down the two nearest attackers.
A shadow loomed behind himโanother man in black attempting a sneak attack. Without hesitation, Kellan spun, delivering a brutal elbow strike before swiftly turning to fire a fatal shot. From Allison's vantage point, she saw blood splatter across Kellan's face, transforming him into a chilling specter of vengeance. He moved with the lethal efficiency of someone fluent only in violence.
She struggled with the car door, but it refused to budgeโit was locked from the outside. Escape wasn't an option. But that didn't mean she was going to sit idle. Her gaze locked onto the bomb strapped to the kidnapper and the remote device. Without missing a beat, she yanked the necklace from around her neck.
"Well, if that's how it's going to be," she muttered. From the necklace, she retrieved a small USB drive, plugged it into her laptop, and immediately began typing. Lines of code raced across the screen as she hacked into the bomb's system, her mind a whirlwind of focused energy.
Just then, Floyd arrived, following the tracking signal. His eyes darted to the car and the surrounding chaos.
"Allison, what's going on?"
"Some thugs kidnapped Lorna! And Kellan's in serious trouble!" she explained briefly through the locked door. "You need to help him hold off those assassins. Buy me some time. I'm working on disarming this bomb."
"Consider it done," Floyd replied without hesitation. He never questioned her secrets, never doubted her abilities. His trust in her was complete, unwavering. Despite his indifference toward Kellan, his affection for Lorna meant he'd help regardless of Allison's request.
The battlefield was chaos. Amid the gunfire and screams, Floyd spotted an assassin sneaking up on Kellan with a blade. Without warning, Floyd kicked the would-be attacker to the ground.
"And you call yourself a professional hitman?" He drove his boot into the man's chest; a sickening crack reverberated as the assassin's ribs shattered. Blood poured from his mouth. Glancing at Kellan, Floyd quickly said, "Allison's trying to hack the remote control system. We just need to buy her enough time."
"Alright," Kellan replied, wiping the blood from his face, momentarily stunned by Floyd's sudden appearance. He hadn't expected this man to show up here of all places. The fact that Allison managed to hack the explosive device while confined in the car was unexpected, but there was no time to dwell on surprises.
Kellan surged forward, engaging the assassins with renewed force. Each strike was as sharp as a blade, each movement merciless. What had started as an evenly matched firefight began to tilt in Kellan's favor. The killers faltered under the relentless pressure, realizing defeat was imminent.
One of them shouted, "Retreat!" In an instant, they abandoned their leaderโthe man in the peaked capโwithout a backward glance.
Floyd was about to give chase when Kellan grabbed his arm.
"My men are in position to block their escape," Kellan said, wiping blood from his face. He looked every bit the blood-drenched warrior. His gaze then turned coldly to the man in the peaked cap, who was left alone, a human bomb waiting to detonate.
"Your friends ditched you. They've made you the sacrificial lamb," Kellan said, his voice ice-cold. "I don't care who sent youโlet Lorna go, and I'll consider sparing your life."
"Straight to hell, all of you!" the man spat, his eyes wild with fury. Betrayed by his own team, he hadn't expected Kellan to be so lethal. Yet, despite the turn of events, he couldn't afford to failโnot with Hoyt threatening his girlfriend's life. A deranged laugh bubbled up from his throat.
"Spare me? Don't make me laugh! You Lloyds will hunt me down no matter what I do!" His grip on Lorna's neck tightened. "Mr. Lloyd," he sneered, "if you care about this little girl, you'll trade your life for hers!"
The gunfire, the blood, the violenceโit all flashed before Lorna's eyes like a nightmare she couldn't wake from. The image brought back memories of her father dying in front of her as a child. Images of Kellan and her father blended in her mind.
Ahโฆ She sobbed uncontrollably, her eyes red and puffy, unable to speak.
"Don't move!" the kidnapper yelled, tightening his hold around her neck in frustration. He knew he was cornered. He had two choices: murder Kellan and Lorna and escape to sea, or perish. He narrowed his eyes. "Mr. Lloyd, I'm counting to three. Let's see if your bullets can outpace my explosives if you refuse to obey!"
