Listen to this chapter:

Colton’s face darkened, his expression growing somber as he processed his abrupt dismissal. When had anyone dared to humiliate him so, especially in front of Kellan, the man renowned for his icy demeanor, who was now openly praising Allison?

Kellan, sitting in his wheelchair, a gray blanket draped over his knees, radiated an aura of nonchalant nobility. Despite his physical limitations, his presence was overwhelming. His words were like shards of ice, and a single cold glance could freeze anyone. It was unnerving, as if he instinctively sensed impending danger.

Melany’s gentle squeeze on his hand brought Colton back to the present. “Colton?” she whispered, her voice a calm anchor in the storm raging within him.

Colton took a deep breath, controlling his temper. He reminded himself the immense benefits to his company were worth swallowing his pride. Though anger simmered beneath the surface, he forced a respectful tone.

“Since you’re so direct, Mr. Lloyd, let’s get to the point.”

Her gaze briefly flickered to Kellan. Yes, the man was successful and respected, but what good was his power if he was confined to a wheelchair? No influence could change that. And Allison? She could cling to him, but she’d soon find herself trapped with a man whose temper was as volatile as his reputation. When that day came, even if she begged for help, Colton wouldn’t lift a finger.

“If you assist us with a small favor, Mr. Lloyd, I’ll offer you ten percent of Stevens Group shares. All I ask is that you arrange a meeting with the Everett Group president. What do you think?”

This was Colton’s ace in the hole. He refused to believe even Kellan could resist. Even Allison initially found the offer advantageous. The Everett Group, the largest advertising conglomerate in Ontario, was a name synonymous with revolutionary marketing tactics that others couldn’t replicate, though its president remained elusive. Offering stock for a simple introduction was a substantial investment, but the potential reward was worth it.

For Kellan, it was a win-win. He only needed to play matchmaker. If the deal closed, Stevens Group stock would soar, providing Kellan with indefinite dividends. Even if the meeting failed, the ten percent stake was a fortune.

Then Allison smiled—a subtle, knowing smile. Kellan, in his wheelchair, spoke with icy indifference.

“You expect me to help you with that?”

His gaze sharpened, his words like daggers. He looked at Colton and Melany as if they were children lost in a game beyond their comprehension.

“Mr. Lloyd, this deal is practically foolproof,” Colton interjected, desperation edging his voice.

“I’m not short of money, and petty profits don’t interest me,” Kellan replied disdainfully. “More importantly, I tolerate ruthless partners, but not reckless ones. Someone who lacks sound judgment in choosing partners? Do you think your limited vision qualifies you to discuss cooperation with me?”

Allison didn’t blink. Kellan’s unpredictability was legendary, and she saw Colton’s severe underestimation. The Stevens family estate was a golden prize to Colton, but mere pocket change to Kellan. If Kellan wanted wealth, why partner with Colton? He could dismantle the Stevens Group and seize what he wanted at will.

“Mr. Lloyd,” Melany began quietly, her voice practiced in innocence. But before she could continue, Kellan’s knuckles tapped lightly on the table. The sound was faint, yet its impact was immediate, silencing her.

“I strongly advise against spoiling my good mood,” Kellan said, his chilling voice laced with a silent menace that permeated the room.
