Chapter 22

The wedding went off without a hitch. Even Louis, seated in the audience, didn’t cause any disruption. He sat below the stage, watching her in a white wedding dress, walk down the aisle. He watched as she passed by him and walked toward another man. His heart seemed to stop, achingly empty.

“Mr. Moore, will you take Ms. Winters to be your wife, will you love her, comfort her, honor and protect her, and forsaking all others, be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?”

“I do!”

“Ms. Winters, will you take Mr. Moore to be your husband, will you love him, comfort him, honor and protect him, and forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?”

“I do!”

As the words fell, Cersei and Hurley looked at each other, their eyes sparkling with love. When the officiant announced, “You may now kiss the bride,” Hurley lifted her veil without hesitation and kissed her.

Amid the chorus of congratulations to the newlyweds, Louis could no longer stay. He rose and hastily departed, his back carrying an overwhelming sense of defeat.

Upon returning to the Harris mansion, Louis found his parents sitting in the living room. Seeing him return, they spoke before he could ask anything.

“You attended the Moore–Winters wedding today?”

After a moment of silence, Louis nodded, already sensing their intentions. And his instincts were correct.

The next moment, his father spoke again. “Back then, you refused to remarry for Cersei’s sake, claiming she was just angry and that you were waiting for her. We couldn’t persuade you otherwise. But now that she’s married someone else… you can’t still say you’re waiting for her, uh?”

He didn’t answer, but his parents clearly saw the response in his eyes—Why not? Anger surged within them, and Louis’s parents laughed bitterly before their expressions hardened. “We don’t care what you think. We’ve arranged a blind date for you. You’ll meet her tomorrow.”

“I won’t go.” Louis froze, his expression turning cold. He paused and then sneered. “You arranged it? Then go ahead and meet her yourselves.”

Yet the next day, Louis appeared at the coffee shop. His expression was cold as he looked at the woman before him with obvious impatience, sipping his coffee without any interest in what she was saying.

“Mr. Harris? Mr. Harris?” Sydney Williams regarded Louis with displeasure. She had been speaking until her mouth was dry, while he remained clearly distracted the entire time, obviously not listening to a word she said.

Though the Williams family couldn’t match the Harris family in resources, they certainly weren’t in a position to accept such humiliation. With a splash, coffee poured over Louis’s head.

Sydney laughed derisively and grabbed her bag. “Arranged marriages are just about mutual benefit. If Mr. Harris looks down on the Williams family so much, just say so! Don’t sit here pretending to play nice.”

With that, she stormed off, leaving Louis drenched in coffee and utterly bewildered. The scene had caught the attention of nearby patrons, who looked on in curiosity. Soon, whispers started filling the air.

“Hey, he looks really familiar?”

“You don’t know him? He’s the CEO of Harris Group. He was famous for the ‘loving husband’ image a few years back, but then his wife filed for divorce over his infidelity.”

“Ah, isn’t his ex-wife the bride from that big wedding yesterday?”

“Yes, exactly! His ex-wife left him and is thriving, while he gets coffee thrown on him by a blind date. Tsk tsk….”
