“It’s not early dating anymore.”
I blinked. “What are you talking about?”
He smiled, his fingertip precisely finding my hearing aid behind my ear. Even with my hair covering it, he pressed right where my hearing aid was.
“I know you wear a hearing aid.”
“You’re not trying to back out, are you?” He gritted his teeth, looking ready to bite me if I admitted it.
I mumbled vaguely: “No.”
He straightened up and cleared his throat: “Good. Let’s go on our date.”
The young man’s smile was confident and unrestrained.
After SAT results came out, our homeroom teacher sent a message in the group chat—inviting everyone for a last gathering. His treat. Everyone’s results had exceeded his expectations. The chat exploded with cheers.

The time was set for 7 PM. When I went downstairs, Chase was waiting at the entrance. Seeing me, his thin lips curved upward as he stepped forward to grasp my hand. At the restaurant entrance, I shook off his hand before going in. I ignored his suddenly darkened expression.
Someone asked curiously: “Are the class president and Chase close?” “Why’d you arrive together?”
I gave a casual explanation: “Not really.”
Chase looked up, his eyes full of mock hurt. “Yeah, not close at all. We just made out for half an hour.”
Not only did we make out for half an hour, there was tongue involved when we parted. His pale pink lips were still flushed red. Fortunately, the waiter opened the door with dishes, and everyone clamored about eating through the teacher’s entire salary. No one heard his comment clearly.
After dinner at the restaurant, the group insisted that since we were all adults and it was still early, we should go to a bar for a rare get-together. Our teacher, concerned, decided to come along.

After singing for a while, someone suggested playing Truth or Dare. After several rounds, the bottle stopped in front of Chase. He chose Truth and drew a card. The guy sitting next to him read the question aloud: “Do you have someone you like? Is she here?”
Chase glanced at me. I instinctively felt nervous. Like the other classmates, I pretended to look curiously at Chase. In reality, my heart was racing. After all, our teacher was still present. If he found out we were together, it would be embarrassing.
Seeing my expression, his smile grew wider. “Yes,” he admitted without hesitation. Everyone looked shocked. Even our teacher was surprised. He stared at Chase with wide eyes. “Who?! Who’ve you been crushing on under my nose? Chase, I’ll call your parents if you don’t tell me.”
The others cut him off in unison: “Teacher, we’re all adults now.”

“And SAT is over.”
“Yeah, if you can’t handle it, maybe you should leave early.”
Our teacher refused to budge. He kept looking at Chase, demanding an answer. Chase looked at me, taking a sip from his glass: “It’s not a crush. It’s love.”
Me:……
I quietly bent down, intending to escape to the bathroom. Chase suddenly called out behind me: “Babe, don’t you agree?” I felt everyone’s stares on my back. As my hand nearly reached the doorknob, I breathed a sigh of relief. I hadn’t turned around, so who knew who Chase was calling “babe”? I defiantly opened the door. The next second, someone stood behind me, grabbing my hand on the doorknob.
“Going to the bathroom?”
“I’ll come with you.”
Complete silence behind us. Then an eruption of screams.

“The class president has been hiding this for a long time!”
“I knew something was up between you two.”
“Lily, how could I not know? I’m your deskmate! I should have had inside information.”
My ears burned hot. I mentally cursed Chase a hundred times. This guy!! His skin is too thick!
I heard a soft laugh near my ear as Chase gripped my hand and fully opened the door. Then he closed it behind us. Inside came even louder hooting.
