Chapter 30: Reece, Are You Crazy?

Reece wasn't sleeping; instead, he sent Cheyenne an emoji-filled message.

Giant Dog: Are you there?

Cheyenne squinted and replied:

[Report anything. Leave me alone if not.]

That day, Reece filmed a supernatural mystery drama. That night, he played the male lead, exploring a well to retrieve a female corpse. Already made up, he sat bored before his mirror when he thought of Cheyenne.

Giant Dog: Miss Lawrence, want to see a gift?

[Is it valuable?]

Giant Dog: You’re vulgar! Just because it’s not valuable, you won’t take it? I’m so sad, boohoo…

[If it’s worthless, why should I take it?]

Giant Dog: It's my own beautiful photo. By the way, I’m filming a movie. If you need money, consider acting. I’m serious!

Cheyenne pondered, "This isn't a bad idea. My acting skills are quite good. After all, I've acted like a waste for years!"

She quickly replied:

[So, what role do you think suits me best?]

Reece laughed. He'd originally wanted Cheyenne to join him in a talent show, hoping they'd become top idols together. She'd decisively refused, citing the dancing and singing rehearsals (she was lazy). Now, she was interested.

Giant Dog: You can play a corpse. Just lie there with your eyes closed, and you'll make money.

He sent a photo of the corpse actress. Cheyenne’s hand shook; her phone slipped from her grasp.

[Reece, are you crazy!]

The next day, bright summer sun shone on the small courtyard, making the lush trees even greener. Grandpa’s parrot squawked incessantly under the eaves:

“My granddaughter is so lazy! The sun is already shining on your butt! Wake up! Wake up!”

The chirping woke Cheyenne. She rubbed her hair and glared at the bird.

“I suddenly feel like fried parrot would be tasty.”

The parrot clung to its perch, rolling its eyes. It fluttered briefly before returning.

“Terrifying! Terrifying! Protecting animals is a human virtue!”

Layne practiced Tai Chi in the yard, wearing a loose white robe, moving gently. Hearing a noise, he stopped and turned.

“Cheyenne, why are you bullying Lantern?”

This green and blue parrot, named “Lantern,” had an eccentric personality. The insults to Cheyenne were actually from Lantern.

“Grandpa, did you teach it to say those things?” Cheyenne braided her hair, glaring at Layne.

He shook his head. “How could I? It learned on its own!”

Lantern, thinking it was being praised, repeated, “Learned on its own! Cheyenne is so stupid…”

Cheyenne’s forehead throbbed. She shook the cage. “Shut up, you stinky bird!”

“Don’t shake it! It’ll get dizzy!” Lantern swayed. It fell. Luckily, the eaves were only slightly over two meters high.

Cheyenne stepped over it expressionlessly. “Hmph! Let’s see if you dare talk back again!”

Lantern: I’m so dizzy… Cheyenne is really mean.

Layne picked up Lantern, placing it back in its cage. He smiled at his granddaughter. “You’re all grown up, but still childish.”

Cheyenne poured tea, serving her grandfather first. “I’m just teasing it.”

They ate breakfast. The roar of car engines announced a black Rolls-Royce Phantom, worth at least ten million dollars, pulling up to their modest courtyard.
