Chapter 112
At this critical moment, Zach used all his strength to pull Marsh up. Simultaneously, he hugged Elvira and brought her down the building.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Three bullets hit the spot where Elvira had just been. Marsh was so frightened he covered his head and shouted. Terrified, he sat on the floor. Seeing his sister and brother-in-law fall from the building, he was beside himself. He reacted instantly, crawling away from the roof's edge.
Zach fell from the seventh floor with Elvira in his arms. As he fell, he struggled to reposition himself so Elvira was cradled against him. He hoped to lessen the impact on her when they hit the ground.
Elvira desperately tried to push him away. She didn't want him to risk his life for her. Zach's grip was like steel bars; she couldn't break free.
Fortunately, Spike and Samson reacted quickly. The air cushion had already been set up downstairs, and Zach and Elvira landed safely. Even so, Zach fainted from the impact. Elvira quickly got up and looked at the unconscious Zach. Anxiously, she called his name, "Zach, wake up! Don't scare me, Zach! I beg you to wake up! Help! Get a doctor here!"
“Elvira, don’t worry. Zach should have just fainted. He will be fine,” Samson and the bodyguards rushed forward, helping Elvira to her feet. They carried Zach to the car and prepared to take him to the hospital.
Spike, meanwhile, went after the sniper.
Elvira looked at Zach, his eyes tightly closed and his hands covered in blood. Her heart ached terribly.
Upstairs, Marsh was so scared he cried uncontrollably. When the bodyguards found him, his legs gave way under him. He cried, “Where’s my sister? Did she fall to her death?”
“Mrs. Gilbert isn’t dead!” the bodyguards tried to persuade him as they pulled him downstairs.
“You’re lying! It’s impossible for anyone to survive such a high fall! You’re lying. Elvira… Boohoo… I caused her death!” Marsh cried until he was breathless. He was tall and heavy, and his legs were so weak the bodyguards struggled to move him.
“Mrs. Gilbert is really not dead! Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert fell onto the air cushion. They’re going to the hospital now,” the bodyguards explained helplessly.
Marsh stopped crying and looked at the bodyguards suspiciously. “Are you serious? My sister and brother-in-law really didn’t fall to their deaths?”
“It’s true. Why would I lie to you? Hurry up and go to the hospital.” The bodyguards pulled him downstairs.
In the car, Zach was awake. He looked at the woman hugging him and crying. He raised his hand to wipe her tears, but his hand was covered in blood.
“Zach, are you feeling unwell? Tell me. It’s all because of me that you’re hurt like this.” Elvira’s heart ached terribly. Zach had risked his life to save Marsh, and even more so, to save her. Elvira was deeply moved. If Marsh weren't her biological younger brother, why would Zach have risked his life for him?
“You’re my wife. It’s my duty to save you. I’m fine. Don’t cry. If you cry, my heart will ache,” Zach coughed twice. He had suffered internal injuries in the fall, but nothing serious.
“Alright, I won’t cry anymore. Stop talking. We’ll soon reach the hospital.” Elvira quickly wiped away her tears and hugged him tighter.
Zach underwent a series of examinations. Besides the injury to his hand, he had only minor internal injuries. The doctor recommended a three-day hospital stay.
