Chapter 146
Judy couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Calvin is actually looking out for Elvira again?" she wondered. "Calvin, I'm now a major shareholder of Willis Group. I can help you make a comeback! As long as you marry me, you can definitely make Kennedy Group thrive again. It’s not wise for you to leave me now!" Judy continued to persuade Calvin.
Calvin had already decided to have nothing to do with Judy. No matter what she said, he refused to speak to her. Judy was cornered. So angry, she smashed the things she had packed. Calvin simply left the apartment.
Judy was so angry she cried. Calvin still didn't look at her. "Everything is about Elvira. It’s because of Elvira again! Do you now realize that Elvira is better than me? It’s too late. You and Elvira will never be together again! Calvin, I hate you!" Judy was devastated.
When Jason learned that Kennedy Group had gone bankrupt, he called Elvira and thanked her for teaching him a lesson. If Elvira hadn't reminded him, and he hadn't rejected Kennedy Group's settlement, his mall would have been affected.
Jason wanted to treat Elvira to a meal. Elvira smiled and said she was supposed to treat him, to thank him for letting her brand settle in the mall.
Elvira received a call from Tracy, asking her to pick someone up at the airport. Elvira was curious. Tracy only said Elvira would know once she picked up the person.
Elvira went to the airport at the appointed time. When Leonard appeared, she was surprised. He was dressed like a student, in casual sportswear. He looked young and energetic. He looked 70% similar to Zach, so his identity wasn't hard to guess; he was Zach's half-brother.
"Hello, Elvira. My name is Leonard Gilbert. Thank you for coming to pick me up," Leonard thanked Elvira gratefully.
"Grandma asked me to pick you up. Get in the car. I’ll take you to the hotel," Elvira said, opening the trunk for Leonard's luggage.
After they got into the car, Elvira drove away from the airport. Along the way, Leonard was quiet. Elvira couldn't help but look at him in the rearview mirror and ask, "Have we met before?" He gave her a familiar feeling.
Leonard was shocked. He smiled sincerely. "Elvira, you're so good-looking. If I've seen you before, I definitely wouldn't forget you. Did you remember wrongly?"
Elvira was a bit puzzled. Leonard's appearance was similar to Zach's. If she had seen him before, she wouldn't have forgotten him. However, she felt he looked familiar, which was strange.
"Maybe I remembered wrongly," Elvira said, dismissing the thought.
When they passed a restaurant, Leonard said, "Elvira, please stop. I’ll treat you to a meal to thank you for picking me up today."
Since it was dinnertime, Elvira agreed. They found a table by the window. The waiter brought the menus. Elvira ordered a meat and a vegetable dish; Leonard ordered two dishes.
"Elvira, what kind of work do you do?" Leonard asked.
"I work for myself," Elvira replied. She didn't understand why Tracy asked her to pick up Leonard. She knew Zach didn't have a good relationship with Helen's family, so she chose not to say much.
"So you're a boss, Elvira. That's impressive," Leonard replied with a smile.
"What about you?" Elvira asked, curious about his occupation.
"I've been studying abroad. I'm still studying for my PhD. After graduation, I plan to return to the country to develop my career," Leonard said shyly.
Elvira nodded. She sensed Leonard was different from Gary. The food arrived quickly, and they ate and chatted casually.
Suddenly, the restaurant door opened, and Elvira saw Zach walking in. She looked at him in surprise. Zach walked in and reached out to pull her up. "Come home with me," he said.
"Well… I need to send your brother to the hotel," Elvira explained.
"Shut up! You're not my brother," Zach said gloomily. Then, to Elvira, "Let's go home." Zach pulled her out of the restaurant. At her car, he threw Leonard's luggage out of the trunk, then asked his bodyguard to drive Elvira's car while he pulled Elvira into his.
Elvira apologized to Leonard before getting into Zach's car. Leonard picked up his luggage helplessly. As he watched Zach's car leave, a trace of contemplation appeared in his eyes.
When Elvira saw how angry Zach was, she hugged him and kissed him. Zach wanted to pull away, but Elvira wouldn't let go.
"Honey, don't be angry. I really didn't know I was supposed to pick him up… Grandma gave me his flight number," Elvira apologized hastily.
"Don't interact with them anymore!" Zach was still angry. He tightened his grip on Elvira.
Elvira hurried to say, "Right, it's my fault. I shouldn't have done this. Even if I didn't know who I was picking up, I should have left him at the airport! It's my fault for driving him back, letting him take my car, and even having dinner with him. That's a huge mistake. When we get home, I'll reflect on my mistakes."
Zach's expression softened slightly. He hugged her tighter and said, "Don't say that."
"Honey, don't be angry anymore. I know you're the most generous! You won't really be angry with me. You're the best, honey," Elvira leaned over and kissed him passionately.
Zach had no resistance to her kiss. He hugged her tighter and kissed her harder. They ate at another restaurant for dinner and went home.
Elvira had failed Tracy's task. When she got home, she called Tracy to apologize. Tracy, instead of scolding her, apologized. "Elvira, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have hidden it from you. It's just that, other than you, I didn't know who else to ask. Leonard has been living overseas. He just doesn't want to get involved in what his parents and brothers did. Is Zach angry with me?"
Elvira said, "No. Why would he be angry with you? I understand your feelings, but Zach and I are husband and wife. I don't want to interact with them anymore, so…"
