Chapter 150

“Elvira, what a coincidence! You’re here to attend this banquet too. If I had known earlier, I would have come with you.” Mandy’s smile was sweet and bright. She stood close to Elvira, her attitude a stark contrast to the disdain she’d shown at the Gilberts' house.

Elvira raised an eyebrow, sensing something amiss in Mandy’s sudden closeness. Elvira loved Zach deeply and naturally, disliked the members of Samuel’s other family.

“Elvira, I need to talk to you privately. Come with me for a moment. I’m sorry to take you away,” Mandy said, taking Elvira’s arm.

Elvira didn’t shake her off in public; it wouldn't seem appropriate. She wanted to see what Mandy wanted. Mandy pulled her toward a window. Elvira pulled back, looking at her with a faint smile. “What exactly do you want?”

“It’s nothing particular. My car broke down, and I need a ride when we leave,” Mandy said calmly, gazing at her exquisite nails, her earlier enthusiasm gone.

“Sure. I’ll give you a ride,” Elvira replied, wanting to know what Mandy was up to.

“Then let’s go now!” Mandy grabbed her arm and left. The bodyguard followed closely, afraid Mandy might harm Elvira.

Once in the car, Elvira looked at Mandy and said with a faint smile, “You’re just a bastard daughter of the Gilbert family. How dare you show your face in public? Things are really getting worse now.”

Mandy’s expression darkened instantly. “I’m not a bastard daughter! My mother was married to my father when she gave birth to me!”

“Even if they were married, it doesn’t change the fact that you are a bastard daughter! Do you think Grandma sees you as her granddaughter? Does the Gilbert family see you as their descendant? If not, you’re a bastard daughter!” Elvira wouldn’t give her a ride so easily. Since Mandy had sought her out, Elvira wouldn't stand on ceremony.

“You… You’re calling me a bastard daughter, but are you any better?” Mandy fumed, hating being called that.

“Me? I’m the Willis family’s legitimate eldest daughter. Even if I’m not as likable as the bastard daughter in the Willis family, my identity is legitimate. Bastard daughters like you will never be comparable to me!” Elvira gave her a disdainful look.

Mandy was furious, unprepared for Elvira’s sharp tongue.

“My mother was married to my father when she gave birth to me! So I’m not a bastard daughter!” Mandy emphasized again.

“So what you mean is they weren’t married when your mother was pregnant with you. If that’s the case, you’re still a bastard daughter. How can you deny that?” Elvira attacked her relentlessly.

“You…” Mandy was enraged. This was the first time anyone had relentlessly attacked her legitimacy.

“Elvira, you have the guts. Let’s see if you can still smile later!” Mandy snorted angrily and turned away.

Elvira was silent before saying, “You should still be in school, right? Do your classmates know your identity? Do you think they’ll still be friends with you when they find out?”

Elvira wouldn’t let her off easily. Since Mandy had come to her, Elvira intended to avenge Zach.

“Elvira, don’t go overboard!” Mandy was fuming.

“Looks like they don’t know. Zach is stupid to let you guys have a good time for so many years!” Elvira snorted.

“You…” Mandy was speechless, gripping the seat, wishing she could kill Elvira.

She looked outside and suddenly laughed. “Stop the car!”

The chauffeur stopped immediately. Mandy smiled and looked outside. “Elvira, look who’s there.”

Elvira looked back. Seeing Zach in a hotel café with two women—one being Nina, the other unknown, her head lowered—stunned her. Zach seemed to be talking to the unknown woman, who eventually looked up at him.

“Where are you going? If you want out, hurry up!” Elvira glared at Mandy.

“Aren’t you curious who that woman is? Zach left you at the banquet to meet her,” Mandy said smugly. “What’s there to be curious about? I believe he will tell me,” Elvira replied, though slightly bothered. They had only known each other a short time.

“How long have you known Zach? How dare you believe him? You’ve known your ex-fiancé for twenty years, but he still betrayed you. You’ll be asking for trouble if you believe in men,” Mandy sneered, feeling she’d finally gotten the upper hand.

“That’s different! Zach is different from him! And I’m different from my old self!” Elvira’s eyes were gloomy, but she felt confident to face whatever the future held.

Mandy said, “Let me tell you this out of kindness: that woman’s name is Carmen Miller. She’s the adopted daughter of my uncle’s family. She and Zach relied on each other. I heard she even saved his life, so he liked her very much then.”

Mandy continued, “Later, my cousin went missing. I heard Zach has been looking for her. Do you think he just sees her as a friend? You’re a substitute. Now that she’s back, if you know what’s good for you, you should give up your position. By the way, I heard you and Carmen are quite alike.”

Mandy’s ruthlessness enraged Elvira, stirring complicated emotions and jealousy. However, she quickly calmed down. She was no longer the impulsive girl she once was. She glanced at the gloating Mandy and smiled. “So what? I’m now Zach’s legitimate wife!”

Mandy, sensing Elvira’s composure was feigned, gloated. “Anyway, now that my cousin is back, your good days are over. I’ll see how strong your relationship is!”

“Drive. Where are you going? If you don’t tell me, I’ll leave you on the road,” Elvira threatened, arms crossed.

“Just keep pretending!” Mandy sneered, unwilling to be stranded, and gave the chauffeur an address.
