Chapter 152
Olivia didn’t say anything. She thought Leonard was quite self-aware; he was indeed not as annoying as other ostentatious bastard children. Afterward, Olivia, Leonard, and Elvira ate harmoniously and chatted casually. Leonard received a call, said he had something to do, and left first, paying the bill before he departed.
Olivia looked at Leonard’s departing figure and said, “If all the bastard children in the world are as well-behaved and self-aware as this handsome man, there would be fewer disputes in this world.”
“Unfortunately, there aren’t many bastard kids like Leonard. Most of them are shameless, like Judy. They’d do anything to crush the children of their father’s wife,” Elvira replied indifferently.
“Bastard children don’t get to choose their background; however, the choices they make are up to their human nature. There are lots of despicable people in this world,” Olivia concluded.
After they finished eating, the two women left the restaurant to shop at the mall. Olivia and Elvira were not short of money, so they didn’t hesitate to buy things. They bought a bunch of clothes they liked and asked the shop assistant to deliver the shoes to their homes. Elvira used Zach’s card while shopping. Ever since they married and Zach gave her the card, she hadn’t used it. She usually didn’t buy many things, and the money she made was enough for her to spend.
Zach, who was on the plane, listened to continuous consumption messages on his phone. He checked the messages, which showed the consumption information from the secondary card he gave Elvira. He smiled, pleased that Elvira was finally willing to spend his money. He thought, ‘Looks like I have to work harder to earn more money. I must make sure that Elvira has enough money to spend!’
Elvira and Olivia shopped for the entire afternoon. Elvira spent about one million dollars, and Olivia spent a lot as well. The two came out of the last shop and found a place to sit and rest. Olivia looked at Elvira and said, “Looks like you’ve suffered quite a shock. You’re usually so frugal, but you can actually spend so much money at once.”
Olivia was used to spending money extravagantly. Although her salary wasn't considerable, her family doted on her and gave her a lot of pocket money every month. Now that she was married to Samson, he treated her even better. She could spend his money as she pleased.
“I finally understand why women like to buy things when they’re unhappy. It turns out that it can really relieve stress,” Elvira said with a smile.
As they were talking, a commotion suddenly erupted nearby. Elvira looked over and saw a girl accidentally spilling the juice she was selling onto a woman’s clothes.
“Hey, Cheryl, didn’t you use to be your company’s top actress? Why are you selling juice here?” Cindy Lloyd’s voice was very sharp.
Cheryl knew her. Cindy was from the same management company and joined at the same time. After Cheryl joined, she was lucky enough to act as the second female lead in a drama that became a great hit, making her quite famous. Later, after her accident, she was kept by the company. Cindy slowly rose to prominence and continually sought to cause trouble for Cheryl.
Cheryl didn’t expect Cindy to deliberately cause trouble, even though she was working part-time now. She didn’t want to cause trouble; she was in a terrible situation and couldn’t afford to offend anyone. She could only apologize. “Ms. Lloyd, I’m sorry. I didn’t do it on purpose.”
“Are you asking me to let it go just because you didn’t do it on purpose? What’s the use of a verbal apology?” Cindy said disdainfully.
“What will it take for you to let me go?” Cheryl knew Cindy was deliberately finding fault. Cindy naturally didn’t want to let her go easily. Cheryl only wanted to solve the problem quickly and not lose her part-time job.
“It’s very simple. Kneel and lick the juice on my shoes clean. Otherwise, you’ll have to compensate me for my shoes. This pair is Shazer’s newest model. They cost tens of thousands of dollars! Make your choice now!” Cindy said arrogantly, raising her chin proudly.
“Cindy, don’t go overboard!” Cheryl’s expression darkened when she heard Cindy’s request. She was so angry that she was trembling.
“Then you’ll have to compensate me for my shoes!” Cindy looked fearless, daring to humiliate Cheryl because she knew Cheryl had no backer.
How could Cheryl compensate her? Cheryl was so poor that she could only work part-time to earn her living expenses. Not to mention ten thousand dollars, she might not even have a hundred. Cheryl looked at the arrogant woman and didn’t know what to do. She trembled, pale-faced, as she looked at the orange juice on the pair of flawless white shoes.
“Cheryl, you’d better kneel and lick Cindy’s shoes clean. Prestige isn’t as important as money,” the assistant beside Cindy said, fanning the flames.
“You’re right, but Cheryl thinks that prestige is more important than money. Otherwise, why would she be kept because of that matter? But so what if you’re innocent, Cheryl? Look at how you’re doing now. You don’t look like the number one actress in the past at all,” Cindy covered her mouth and laughed mockingly.
Cheryl closed her eyes, knowing she had no choice. Her knees slowly bent. A hint of excitement appeared in Cindy’s eyes; the jealousy was obvious. She joined the company at the same time as Cheryl, and because Cheryl was more popular with the audience, she quickly became popular and gained the favor of the company’s executives. Cindy thought she had worked a hundred times harder than Cheryl to get where she was today, so she thought it was unfair for Cheryl to gain such popularity.
Olivia couldn’t stand it anymore and immediately stood up to stop the farce. Elvira held her back, preventing her from moving. Olivia looked at her in shock when she saw Elvira holding her phone and taking a picture of the scene.
It was afternoon, and there weren’t many people in the mall, so everyone watched from afar. No one wanted to get into trouble.
Cheryl’s knees fell heavily to the floor. Only then did Elvira put away her phone and get up to walk over. Just as Cheryl was kneeling, Cindy’s eyes showed insane excitement; she even regretted not taking a picture of the scene with her phone.
Elvira grabbed Cheryl and forcibly pulled her up from the floor, which made Cindy furious. Elvira pulled Cheryl back two steps.
“Who are you? Who allowed you to meddle in our business?” Cindy pointed at Elvira in exasperation, seeing that she had failed to humiliate Cheryl. Her eyes were furious.
Cheryl was worried that Elvira would get into trouble because of her, so she came over to pull her away. Elvira patted her hand to indicate she was fine. Olivia also came over to glare at Cindy and pulled Cheryl to the side.
“Hey, Cindy, aren’t you just a low-ranking actress? Why are you bullying her here?” Elvira sneered at Cindy.
When Cindy heard the word “low-ranking,” she was furious. She hated it most when people said she wasn’t popular enough; she thought she was already famous to a certain extent.
“You’re asking for trouble! Tell me your name and where you work. I’ll teach you a lesson!” Cindy was instantly exasperated as she pointed her finger angrily at Elvira.
