Chapter 218

Samuel attempted to settle the score with Zach but was scared off by his ex-wife's knife. He felt extremely frustrated. Arriving at the hospital, he found Nina awake, but seemingly disoriented. Her eyes were wide, and she muttered incoherently.

Seeing Nina's state, Danni and Helen were anxious. They asked the doctor for an explanation. He stated that she had likely suffered stress trauma from overstimulation and would slowly recover with psychological counseling.

"Will my cousin be disfigured? Will she recover?" Mandy looked at Nina's bandaged face and asked, worried. If Nina were truly disfigured and mentally incapacitated, what was the point of living? Her hands and feet had been reattached, but the doctor couldn't guarantee the extent of her recovery. The person who inflicted those comminuted fractures was cruel.

"That depends on the later stages of recovery," the doctor replied, unable to offer any guarantees.

Danni, agitated by the doctor's words, lost control, shouting, "I don't know what you doctors are doing! If my daughter's face can't be treated, I won't let you off!"

The doctor, unwilling to confront Danni's anger, ignored her and left. Danni rushed after him, but Helen stopped her.

"Danni, arguing is useless now. It's better to focus on finding a way to treat Nina," Helen said, clearly stressed. "And you," she continued, addressing Danni, "your stepson caused your niece to be in this miserable state. Are you just going to watch and do nothing? How can you let him treat your family like this?"

"I did nothing! Didn't I call Samuel? What else do you want me to do? I have no status in the Gilbert family. Do you think I can kill Zach to avenge Nina?" Helen retorted, feeling frustrated. Her maiden family had been destroyed by her stepson, and she felt powerless to stop him.

"Even if we can't kill him, you should teach him a lesson. We can't let him be so arrogant. When the police find evidence, I'll make Zach pay the price!" Danni screamed uncontrollably.

Mandy quickly pulled her mother aside, saying, "Mom, don't say anything. She's not calm. Let her calm down."

Helen, understanding Danni's distress, could only endure it. When Samuel returned, Danni immediately asked, "Did you settle scores with your vicious son? What did he say?"

"I went to see him, but he said he didn't do it," Samuel replied, too embarrassed to mention his ex-wife chasing him away with a knife. It seemed Zach was not involved in Nina's injuries.

Although Samuel disliked Zach, he didn't believe he was capable of this.

"How could it have nothing to do with him? He was the one who did it! Just because of that little bitch, he destroyed my company and arrested all the men in my family. He was merciless. Now that it's my daughter, it's my turn next! Other than him, who else has the ability to do such a vicious thing and escape punishment?" Danni felt a chill run down her spine, fearing Zach wouldn't spare her.

"We don't have any evidence yet. If he doesn't admit it, there's nothing we can do. If I go and see my mother, she will definitely side with Zach," Samuel said with a sullen expression, acknowledging his strained relationship with his biological mother.

"There's nothing you can do about it. Fine. Are you going to let my daughter be destroyed just like that?" Danni's outburst frightened those present.

Mandy rolled her eyes and suggested, "Why don't we just let Zach take responsibility? He's the one who made her like this. Even if he doesn't get a divorce, many men..."

Hearing this, the others looked at Mandy, who shrugged and said indifferently, "Anyway, he caused this. He has to take responsibility. If he refuses, we can seek justice from Grandma. A girl was ruined by him. How can Grandma not care?"

Mandy couldn't tolerate Elvira's pampered life with Zach. It was a superficial wound, but Zach had destroyed a company over it. Was Elvira truly worth it?

"Mandy's words make sense. Since he was the one who destroyed her, he has to take responsibility. Let him divorce Elvira and marry Nina!" Helen desperately hoped for Zach's suffering, even wishing him dead so she and her child could thrive.

"Will... will this work? Will he agree to it?" Samuel questioned their audacious plan.

"If he refuses, just make a fuss. Find the media to expose what he has done and ruin his reputation," Danni declared angrily. Samuel was silent, questioning Danni's capabilities. Determined to make Zach accountable, Danni asked Samuel and Helen to take her to Tracy to stir up trouble.

After dinner, Zach pulled his wife, who was watching television with his mother, back into the house. Skylar wanted more time with Elvira, but Zach took her away, leaving Skylar to return to her room.

Uncertain about Zach's intentions with the injured Elvira, Skylar knocked on his door. Zach opened it, asking, "Mom, is there anything else?"

Skylar, having spent the whole day with Elvira, reminded her son, "Um… Elvira is injured. Don't do anything to her. She needs to recuperate."

Zach's face darkened. He mumbled agreement and slammed the door, almost hitting Skylar. Enraged, she waved her fist at the door. Elvira, seeing Zach's dark expression, smiled and asked, "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing, I don't know what's wrong with my mother," Zach replied, already contemplating how to get rid of his meddling mother.
