Chapter 90
Elvira had been on guard against these tricks. Seeing the wine in Zoey’s hand splashing toward her, Elvira quickly slapped Zoey’s hand. The wine spilled all over another female guest’s gown.
The female guest exclaimed in shock, looking at Zoey, who was holding an empty glass and standing there in a daze. She angrily questioned, “Why did you splash me?”
“It’s not me, she…” Zoey immediately tried to shift the blame to Elvira.
“You’re ridiculous. The wine glass is still in your hand.” Elvira looked at Zoey disdainfully and ignored her little trick. She turned and left.
“Elvira, you’re the one who pushed me! Stop right there, you can’t leave!” Zoey was angry and about to chase after Elvira.
The female guest, splashed with wine, reached out and grabbed Zoey. She said angrily, “You splashed it on me and you’re not apologizing. Do you still want to escape? How could an uncultivated person like you sneak into the centennial celebration?”
“I said it wasn’t me! Who are you calling uncultivated? You’re the uncultivated one!” Zoey refused to apologize, feeling that she shouldn't have to if it wasn't her fault.
“It’s your fault for splashing wine on me! Are you invited here or not? Where’s the security?” The female guest was enraged by Zoey’s attitude. She grabbed Zoey and refused to let her go.
Calvin, who had been talking to his business partner, quickly rushed over when he saw the commotion involving Zoey. Judy, though hesitant to intervene, felt she still needed Zoey to deal with Elvira, so she approached as well.
“Zoey, what’s going on? Just apologize for accidentally splashing wine on her! I’m sorry, lady. I’ll compensate you for the gown,” Calvin quickly comforted the female guest.
“Of course, you have to compensate for the gown. Besides, she has to apologize. Don’t tell me such an uncultivated person came in with you! Calvin, you were the most handsome boy at Vilzell University back then. How could you know such an uncultivated person!” The female guest still seethed at Zoey’s attitude.
“Who are you calling uncultivated!” Zoey was furious, her face reddening as she wanted to argue.
“Zoey, apologize immediately. Otherwise, don’t expect me to bring you out again!” Calvin’s expression turned cold. He was quite scary when angry, being most sensitive about his reputation. If Zoey didn’t apologize, it would damage his standing.
Zoey was so angry she was about to cry. She turned to look for Elvira, only to see her holding a glass of wine. When Elvira saw Zoey, she raised her eyebrows and her glass in a calm, mocking toast.
Zoey was beside herself with anger.
“Zoey, I know you didn’t do it on purpose. You have to apologize for this. She won’t hold it against you,” Judy also came to persuade her.
“I’m sorry, alright?” Zoey said unwillingly and turned to run.
“What kind of attitude is that? The two of you are influential figures at Vilzell University. How do you know such a person?” The female guest felt incredibly unlucky.
“I’m sorry. I’ll definitely compensate you for the gown.” Calvin could only apologize on Zoey’s behalf.
After appeasing the guest, Calvin’s expression was grim. He instructed Judy, “Keep an eye on her. Don’t let her offend anyone again.”
“Yes, I understand. I will keep an eye on her later,” Judy said gently to Calvin.
Calvin, looking at Judy, felt much better. He pinched her face affectionately. “You’re the gentlest and most considerate. I’ll go greet them first.”
“Hurry up and go.” Judy shyly pushed him and turned to look at Elvira provocatively, thinking, I want to show Elvira how much Calvin dotes on me now.
Unexpectedly, Elvira paid them no attention at all. Judy felt embarrassed, clenching her fists in anger.
She turned to look for Zoey, thinking, “Today, I want to expose Elvira’s scandal to the entire country’s netizens! I also want Elvira to embarrass herself in public to vent the hatred in my heart!”
Zoey ran to the small garden outside the banquet hall, feeling humiliated.
Judy came over and patiently counseled her before persuading her to return to the banquet hall.
“I’m going to teach Elvira a lesson! She embarrassed me, I’m going to embarrass her even more!” Zoey hated Elvira intensely, thinking, I wish I could strip Elvira naked and embarrass her in public!
“I heard that the school’s anniversary celebration has the tradition of opening dances, and an auction whose proceeds benefit children who can’t afford school in impoverished areas. I think this is very meaningful! I wonder who will be the lucky goddess today?” Judy feigned casualness.
Zoey’s eyes lit up. She grabbed Judy’s arm, saying, “Of course it’s you! It can’t be that bitch, Elvira, right? She’s a poor woman married to a poor man! Besides, with her bad reputation, how can anyone be willing to spend money on her? I’ve thought of a way to embarrass Elvira. Judy, you have to cooperate with me later! Otherwise, I’ll ignore you!”
“What do you want to do? Don’t be rash. Don’t go against her anymore.” Judy looked at her worriedly.
“She got someone to beat us up, yet you’re still speaking up for her. Just wait, I’ll make her lose face badly today!” Zoey took Judy into the banquet hall.
Judy smiled triumphantly.
The Vilzell University anniversary celebration, a three-day event with different activities each day, was attended by top elites from various fields.
At eight o’clock in the evening, the celebration began. After the principal’s speech and applause, it was time for the opening dance.
Zoey took Judy to Elvira’s side. She smiled evilly at Elvira and shouted into a microphone she’d obtained, “Why don’t we do something special for this year’s opening dance? Vilzell University’s famous alumni, Judy and Elvira, will have a battle! The starting price for the opening dance is one million dollars!”
Elvira was confirming with Cole about the arrival of the person and evidence she was expecting when Zoey and Judy’s outburst interrupted her. She thought, Wasn’t all this just to embarrass me? How childish and ridiculous!
When the guests heard the million-dollar starting price, they sighed. They were top professionals, not necessarily wealthy.
“Boring!” Elvira dismissed the idea and turned to leave.
“Elvira, today is a good opportunity for you to do charity. After all, if someone is willing to bid for the opening dance with you, you can contribute to those poor children.” Zoey blocked Elvira’s exit.
When the principal heard about the million-dollar opening dance bid, he said, “I think the suggestion is good. We can try it out this year.” Before, the opening dance only auctioned for 100 thousand dollars annually, leaving him with little funds.
