Chapter 62

Adrian frowned and retorted, “Men and women are different. Don’t be so harsh when you talk. No matter how old a woman is, she would always prefer a gentleman.” Without waiting for a response from Damien, he turned and walked off swiftly. Damien’s gaze darkened completely as he watched Adrian’s retreating figure. He instantly pulled out his phone and made a call. “Find out everything you can about Uncle Adrian’s illegitimate daughter. I want to know who he had that child with.”

Meanwhile, Celeste and Eloise arrived at the classroom, where the homeroom teacher was already waiting by the door. “Hello, Eloise! I’m your homeroom teacher from now on.” “Hello, miss!” Perhaps still shaken from what happened downstairs, Eloise’s eyes stung from tears. However, she relaxed a little when she saw the teacher’s gentle smile. Celeste had already informed the teacher about Eloise’s situation in advance, and the teacher had promised to take good care of her. “If anything comes up, please give me a call.” “Alright.” The teacher nodded and led Eloise inside the classroom. Celeste stood at the window for a while, keeping a watchful eye to ensure everything was fine. Only after confirming that did she finally leave.

When she reached the school gate, she saw a Maybach parked outside. A familiar figure approached her. “Mr. Wrenford is waiting for you inside the car. He wants to speak to you.” Celeste glanced up at Joshua and instinctively nodded. “Alright.”

When she reached the car, she opened the door and saw Adrian looking at her. Their gazes met. As soon as she got in, his voice boomed out, “Why is Eloise with you?” Celeste froze for a moment. It seemed that he didn’t know about what he’d done for her in the past. Perhaps Joyce didn’t mention it. Back when she was injured in prison with severe internal bleeding, Joyce was the one who had treated her. Joyce had turned to Adrian for help, and he had sent her acupuncture tools. It was because of that treatment that Celeste survived.

“Why aren’t you answering me?” Adrian lifted his brows, somewhat curious. Snapped from her thoughts, she turned to meet his gaze. “Eloise’s mom, Joyce Barker, and I were prison cellmates. We got along well, and she saved my life before. When I got out, I promised to look after her daughter to repay that favor.” After hearing her explanation, he nodded lightly.

“Thank you for today, Mr. Wrenford,” Celeste thanked him sincerely. “I know you’re not Eloise’s father. But at that moment, you stepped in to protect her and give her dignity. I truly appreciate it.”

“Her mom and I were acquaintances and crossed paths several times. So, I’ve met Eloise a couple of times. But what did Damien mean by saying that she’s not mentally well?” Adrian’s expression darkened slightly. Celeste tensed up at his question. She couldn’t believe that Damien had revealed this information! “She has mild autism.” “Autism? How does that even happen all of a sudden?”
