The room was full of wolves, and my scent glands were going haywire. Gathering so many wolves in one place always did this to me. My nose was sensitive, and I had to take a few deep breaths to calm myself. โYou girls ready?โ I looked up at my father and nodded.
โCan we enter without you guys?โ I asked my father. โWhy?โ I smiled over at Cas, who was on Ronnieโs arm. โIโฆโ โYou are planning something with the she-wolves, arenโt you?โ โYup.โ I smiled up at him and slipped my arm out of his. โIf you hear a large fight, show up. But I swear, Dad, if you fawn over another she-wolf in front of me, I will hit you.โ
My dad laughed at me. โI promise I wonโt, and if by the smallest chance I do, you have full access to punch me in the face.โ He smiled down at me, and I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek. โThanks, Daddy.โ โYouโre welcome, my girl.โ
I pulled my arm from his and held my hand out for Cassie. โLetโs go.โ โAre you sure, Amy?โ โYes, yes I am.โ I smiled down at her, and she shook her head with a small smile. โChin up. Donโt worry. I got you.โ She nodded, and we opened the door and headed down the steps.
When we reached the middle of the stairs, everyone had stopped to stare at us. โThey are staring,โ Cas whispered to me, and I smiled. โItโs because we look so hot,โ I whispered back as the smell of lust hit her in the face. She stumbled, but I held her up, and we kept heading down until we hit the bottom of the stairs. โLetโs go get a drink.โ I pulled her to the bar and ignored the stares of all the men and women around us. โWhy are they staring?โ โI already told you. We look hot.โ I handed her a glass of champagne and clinked my glass against hers. โYour birthday is in a few days, and these men are your potential mates. Take today and enjoy it, for your life will change when you hit eighteen.โ I knew that Cas found her mate the day she turned eighteen, and he was a good man. I couldnโt remember who it was exactlyโa guard or someoneโbut she was happy.
I stopped coming here once I accepted Brandon. He forbade me from coming, saying he couldnโt live with me being so far. It sounded sweet at first, but later on, I realized it was just his need to control me.
โWhat the fuck are you wearing, you tramp?โ A screech rent the air, and the people around us grew quiet. I smiled into my glass as Cas paled, but I patted her back and turned. โExcuse me?โ I took a small sip of my drink and faced Aurora. She was dressed in a pale white sheath dress and matching pearl necklace. Amanda was in a pale blue bodycon dress, with a matching choker necklace. They were stunning, but no match for me and Cas. โThat dress and necklace were supposed to go to my niece.โ Amanda stood next to her aunt with her eyes staring at the floor.
I quirked an eyebrow. โI bought them; they are mine. I allowed my best friend to borrow it. What is the issue?โ I tilted my head to the side and stared at the two. โBullshit. You bought them knowing that Amanda wanted them, and allowed that weak wolf to strut in here in front of us.โ
I took a deep breath and then squared my shoulders. โSo?โ Aurora reeled back. She sputtered in front of me for a moment, and I took a step towards them. โWho are you to tell me what I am able to do? Are you my parents? Are you a gamma, beta, or an alpha? No. Then why does it matter?โ Aurora growled. โIt matters because weaker wolves need to know their place.โ โI agree. Weaker wolves should know their place,โ I growled out, and Nix flashed in my eyes, and Amanda started to shake.
Aurora didnโt catch my meaning, but she puffed up her chest and went to grab Cas, but I stepped in front of her. โMove.โ She stomped her foot and let out her power. It crashed against me, and I wanted to laugh. She was so weak, but she felt like she was a bigger threat. โDonโt touch her.โ โMove.โ Aurora tried to go around me, but I grabbed her wrist and flung her back until she was on her ass.
Her power lashed out again, but it washed over me. Cas whimpered again, but I kept her behind me. I growled out loudly, and then the crowd opened up, and my dad walked up through the crowd. โWhat the hell is going on?โ My dad looked from me to Aurora. Once his eyes locked onto Aurora, I could see his eyes grow hazy. โDevlin.โ Aurora got to her feet and ran into my fatherโs arms. I wanted to growl, but I held myself in check. โThis girl was bullying me and my niece.โ
His eyes moved to me, and I could see he didnโt recognize me. I walked up to my father and stood in front of him. โHow dare youโฆโ He growled out, and I pulled back and punched him square in his face.
