Chapter 260

The world stopped for a minute, and then my wolves were lunging for each other. I slipped on the tub, slicing my leg as I struggled to reach for them. I turned inwards, sending myself into my mind, chasing after my wolves.

โ€œStop,โ€ I called as I reached the barrier, but they were fighting each other, and they were vicious. I pushed through the separation and ran to my clearing, diving between the two, earning myself a few bites in the process before they realized I was there. โ€œI said stop!โ€ I screamed as both latched onto me, and then jumped back.

โ€œAmy!โ€ both of them called as they realized, and I dropped to my knees. Blood poured from my shoulder and my hip where they bit. Nix circled. โ€œYou are so fricken stupid.โ€ She licked the wound at my shoulder, the one higher up where she got me. The blood slowed and Megan stepped up, cleaning the wound on my hip.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry I didnโ€™t notice you jumped in,โ€ Megan said, going back to cleaning the wound.

โ€œDonโ€™t apologize,โ€ Nix hissed. โ€œShe knows better than to jump between two fighting wolves.โ€

The venom in her voice was thick. I pushed her away and stared at her. โ€œAnd you should know better than to attack Megan when she was just telling me the truth.โ€ I watched her recoil a bit. The anger in her eyes surged, and she gave a half-hearted growl. I just stared at her. โ€œYou can be angry at me. I donโ€™t mind. You were right. But I expect you to also recognize your own shortcomings, including the blind spot you have for Erubus. You can be angry at me, at yourself, even at Megan for being able to not act like a jackass like we were. But youโ€™re not allowed to attack her for voicing her opinion. That isnโ€™t allowed, not only because youโ€™re bigger, but because you are her alpha, and she did nothing wrong. Are we just like Vince now? Throwing our position and power around for no reason other than we can?โ€

She sat back on her haunches. โ€œYouโ€™re mad.โ€

Megan sat next to me and I stroked her fur. I shook my head. โ€œIโ€™m not mad. Iโ€™m disappointed.โ€

She fell back and looked at me with hurt in her eyes. โ€œDisappointedโ€ฆ in me.โ€

I shook my head again. โ€œIโ€™m disappointed in us.โ€ I struggled to my feet. โ€œWe are supposed to be one unit, working together for a goal. But these past few months we have all been working separately. I was trying to train, go to class, learning how to hack, while you two were off fighting magic you couldnโ€™t handle alone. And then we were forced into a heat, and instead of working together, we separated once again. Megan was forced to handle the two of us. She was the only one that kept her head.โ€ I turned to her. โ€œWaitโ€ฆ how did you keep your head?โ€

โ€œBecauseโ€ฆ Iโ€™m the only one of us that actually went through a full heat before. It gets easier the more you have.โ€

I tilted my head. โ€œI never had a heat in my last life.โ€

Megan laid down, and Nix inched closer. โ€œActually, you did.โ€ I looked over at Nix, who was staring down at Megan. โ€œIn our last life, I agreed to mate Brandon, but he wasnโ€™t my mate."

โ€œI know.โ€

She looked away. โ€œNo, what Iโ€™m saying is because he wasnโ€™t my mate, he never pushed me into a heat. But Megan here, she did go through them.โ€

โ€œThem?โ€

But Nix pushed on. โ€œBecause you didnโ€™t know Megan even existed, you were kept separated. Her soul never directly touched yours. So during your last life, when you never went into heat, and Brandon was upset, saying you were defective like Shannon said, that wasnโ€™t true at all. Itโ€™s just Megan went deep into the forest to suffer alone while I enforced the separation."

โ€œWhy?โ€ I turned to Megan. โ€œYou didnโ€™t need to suffer alone.โ€

โ€œI did.โ€ Megan looked up at me with eyes filled with tears. โ€œA human isnโ€™t meant to go through a heat. You can overheat, and that can hurt your organs.โ€

โ€œBut Iโ€™m a werewolf.โ€ She shook her head and looked at Nix.

โ€œOur last life, you never shifted. Your body was strong, but not werewolf strong. We lent you our strength, but your body was actually still very fragile. You just never noticed the difference because you were never in an actual fight.โ€

โ€œSo you couldnโ€™t share the heat with me because you were afraid I was going to die?โ€ The two nodded. I dropped down next to her. โ€œI am so sorry you had to go through a heat without me.โ€ Nix snorted and Megan met my eyes and then looked away.

โ€œOne?โ€ Nix chuckled. โ€œNo, Amy.โ€

I looked at her and then back at Megan. โ€œIf it wasnโ€™t one, how many was it?โ€ She just shook her head. โ€œHow many, Megan?โ€

โ€œPlease.โ€

โ€œMegan! Tell me.โ€

She looked at me with a sad face. โ€œSeventy-two before we finally fell pregnant.โ€
