Chapter 301

โ€œNo!โ€ Verity shrieked as I pumped ore power into the mark hidden on Toyaโ€™s dark skin. She thought I wouldnโ€™t notice the slight discoloration on her shoulder, but I have spent years sparring with her, years being her friend, shifting with her almost daily. I know her body, and I saw the slight difference as soon as Toya moved her hair.

Toya stumbled back and her eyes flashed with confusion. โ€œWhat the hell?โ€ She turned to look down. โ€œIt fucking burns.โ€ She snarled as I sent a fresh wave of magic into her shoulder.

โ€œI know, and Iโ€™m sorry, but it has to go.โ€ I grabbed her and pulled her closer to me. โ€œDo you trust me?โ€

She stared at me for less than a second. โ€œOf course, I do.โ€

I nodded as Verity screamed again. โ€œYou canโ€™t fucking do this.โ€ She stumbled towards us as I shifted my hand into claws behind my back. I pulled back my power from Toyaโ€™s shoulder, like I was giving up, like her power was too strong to break through. I panted and flashed a look at Toya. She gave a tiny nod as I turned away. Verity smiled. โ€œWaitโ€ฆ thatโ€™s it? The oh so powerful Amy.โ€ She straightened her back as she came closer. โ€œYet your power did nothing to my glyph.โ€ She went from scared to boasting quickly. I nearly growled but let her have her moment. Let her boast her power, let her revel in this win. โ€œHonestly, that was pathetic.โ€

Toya snorted. โ€œIf it was so pathetic, why were you so worried?โ€ She looked down at her shoulder and lifted her hand to trace the glyph. โ€œI can barely make it out.โ€ She snapped her eyes to mine. โ€œHow did you notice it?โ€

I chuckled, a little breathlessly, focusing on my words as I gathered my power into my claws behind my back. โ€œWe have sparred more times than I can count these last few years. My face has been pressed up against that shoulder more than a few times.โ€ Just a little more power, and then I can strike. I funneled more power into my hand.

Toya threw her head back. โ€œTrue enough.โ€ Her finger traced the skin again, then she turned back to Verity. โ€œYou burned this into my skin?โ€

She smirked. โ€œBrilliant, isnโ€™t it? The glyph sticks to your skin after contact, and then it worms past your defenses, giving me a way in. Once I was in here with you, and you touched another of your friends, you transferred the glyph to them, giving me a way into each of your friends.โ€

โ€œWow, you are like a supervillain.โ€ I shook my head.

โ€œWhat?โ€ She turned to me.

โ€œNo, no, finish your evil monologue.โ€ I nodded towards Toya. โ€œYou obviously had this prepared.โ€

โ€œShut up!โ€ Verity stomped towards us. โ€œYou have to have a comeback for everything. Look at me, Iโ€™m Amy. Iโ€™m so witty and powerful. Iโ€™m gorgeous.โ€ She mimicked, and I threw my head back and laughed.

โ€œI wouldnโ€™t say gorgeous, but Iโ€™m easy on the eyes. Iโ€™ll give you that.โ€

โ€œMy goddess, do you not tire of your own voice?โ€ She snarled.

โ€œFunny that you say that. I wasnโ€™t the one giving a monologue of my evil doings just now.โ€ I looked at Toya and rolled my eyes.

She snorted. โ€œHonestly, I wouldnโ€™t really say Amy is witty either.โ€ She looked at me with a wink. โ€œShe is a little too slow to be considered witty.โ€

โ€œHey!โ€ I called. I felt my fingers burning with my power and I knew it was ready, but I needed to be sure of one thing.

โ€œWhat the hell is wrong with the two of you?โ€ She screamed, fisting her hands like a toddler. โ€œI have invaded all of your friends. The only way to get me out was breaking that glyph.โ€ She pointed to Toyaโ€™s shoulder. โ€œBut you wonโ€™t ever get rid of me. You were too weak to do that.โ€ She laughed triumphantly. โ€œDonโ€™t you get it yet? I won! You will continue to infect everyone around you, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.โ€

โ€œWait a minute.โ€ Toya held up her hands. โ€œIโ€™ll continue to infect more people?โ€

She nodded. โ€œYup.โ€ She did a tiny dance. โ€œGenius, isnโ€™t it? I created this as the primary glyph. All the others are tied to it. If this one failed, all the others would disappear because they draw power from the host. Thatโ€™s why I put the first one on you, because you were the only one strong enough to feed it.โ€

โ€œSo youโ€™re saying if Toyaโ€™s glyph is gone, everyone else would be free?โ€ Triple checking before I did something rash.

โ€œYeah, but you were too weak to do it.โ€ She did another dance.

โ€œPerfect.โ€ I slammed my claws into Toyaโ€™s shoulder, shredding the skin. Toya screamed as she dropped.
