Chapter 318

We stayed silent as we ascended. I puffed out my cheeks as Rowan looked at me, but the elevator dinged and the girls got out. I walked out with them. โ€œWhere are you going?โ€ Rowan grabbed my arm. โ€œThey are shiftedโ€ฆโ€ I looked at him with furrowed brows. โ€œThey canโ€™t open their door. Iโ€™m going to open it for them.โ€ I shook him off. โ€œKeep the elevator open.โ€ I walked to their door and punched in their code, swinging their door open. โ€œCall me when you get back to your packs.โ€

They both nodded and went inside. Hanna turned back. โ€œBe careful.โ€ I blew her a kiss and went back to the elevator. I slid in and pressed the top floor again.

Rowan opened his mouth, but I shook my head. He was obviously frustrated at me, but I wasnโ€™t going to talk until I got into my place. The doors opened, and we headed to my door. I unlocked it and the two followed me in. Toya headed straight to my bedroom, looking for something to wear for now, and I went to the kitchen.

โ€œWhat the fuck is going on?โ€ Rowan snarled, and I laughed. โ€œSo much.โ€ I grabbed a couple bottles of water as I sealed the room. โ€œLetโ€™s start with the basics while Toya gets presentable.โ€ I walked out and handed him a bottle. โ€œErubus?โ€ He sighed. โ€œYeah. Nix?โ€ I nodded. I watched him deflate. โ€œI had no idea.โ€

I lifted my shoulder. โ€œI want to say it was for the best, but lying doesnโ€™t make it easier.โ€ He laughed. โ€œWe are stupid.โ€ I nodded. โ€œBut it probably is for the best.โ€ I saw hurt flash in his eyes. โ€œWe both have things we have to work through, and being hung up on each other would get in the way.โ€ I smiled through the pain. My words were cutting through all the anger I had built up this last year.

He nodded. โ€œVerityโ€ฆโ€ โ€œIs a witch,โ€ I finished.

He sighed and rubbed his neck. He paced away from me and nodded. โ€œYeah, she is really awful.โ€ โ€œNo.โ€ I started to laugh. โ€œShe is like me. She has powers.โ€ He whirled to face me, but Toya walked out and snarled. โ€œYes, she fucking does.โ€ Toya stomped to the sofa and dropped down. โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€ Rowan walked to the love seat, leaving my chair open for me. โ€œShe played around in my mind.โ€ Toya snarled again. She was still pissed. โ€œShe bumped into me at graduation.โ€ Toya wiggled her finger. โ€œThen she latched onto me and wormed her way in, whispering bullshit about Amy and eating away at our bond until I attacked her.โ€

Rowan looked at me as I settled in my chair. I waved his concern off. โ€œI fought her off, but the truth came to light. Verity is related to Aurora and Amara.โ€ He looked confused. โ€œAurora, the one I tortured.โ€ โ€œThe one that tried to take over your fatherโ€™s pack.โ€ โ€œThe one and the same. The twins are Verityโ€™s younger sisters.โ€ Rowanโ€™s eyebrows shot up. โ€œItโ€™s a long story, but that isnโ€™t why I wanted to talk to you. She isnโ€™t stupid, and she is most definitely using magic against you.โ€

Rowan nodded. โ€œI havenโ€™t been myself in a long time.โ€ He sighed. โ€œBut I have a way to remind myself.โ€ It was my turn to be confused. He just waved me off. โ€œThe rebuilding?โ€ I nodded. โ€œWe all know everyone is still alive.โ€ He nodded. โ€œBut I need to come and go as I need, so I want to pretend to rebuild, as will Toya. But in truth, Toya and Welly will help me watch Carly, and I will have more freedom to move.โ€ โ€œI doubt Vince will like it.โ€ โ€œProbably not, but I think I have a solution. I take the position and โ€˜stayโ€™ on pack lands, but I say that you are deciding if I am allowed to move to my fatherโ€™s pack lands.โ€ โ€œIf I allow it?โ€ He snorted. โ€œWe both know I canโ€™t make you do anything you donโ€™t want to.โ€ I laughed. โ€œTrue, but no one else knows that. You can say you need to determine if it is safe for a new pack to grow on my fatherโ€™s lands with the threat of the rogues still in that area.โ€

He thought about it, then nodded. โ€œI can do that. Plus, it will give Vince some hope that Brandon will have time to win you over.โ€ I winked and pointed at him. โ€œYou wonโ€™t, right?โ€ I shook my head. โ€œNot a chance.โ€ Then I stood. โ€œOne last thing.โ€

Rowan looked at me. โ€œWhat is it?โ€ โ€œYou canโ€™t tell anyone about what we talked about.โ€ I grimaced. He nodded. โ€œDo it.โ€ He closed his eyes as I walked over.

I placed my finger on his head and sent my intention through his mind. This conversation, our plan, will remain hidden from any outside source. โ€œLata sur ben shi na.โ€ The magic whipped his hair around, and for a fleeting moment, I wished I could run my fingers through it.
