Chapter 340

Only to run face-first into another fucking door.

โ€œOw.โ€ My eyes snapped open, and I rubbed my forehead. โ€œWhat the fuck?โ€ I placed my hand on the wood and tapped on it, making sure it was solid.

โ€œWhat?โ€ Toya came up behind me. She peered over my shoulder. โ€œIs that another door?โ€ I nodded. โ€œWellโ€ฆโ€ She nudged my back. โ€œOpen it.โ€

I puffed out my cheeks. โ€œIf I donโ€™t come back, Iโ€™m blaming you.โ€ I opened the second door quickly, slamming it against the wall.

โ€œWhat the fuck!โ€ Wendy screamed.

โ€œHoly shit, it worked,โ€ I whispered as I stared at my friend.

โ€œIt worked.โ€ Toya clapped behind us.

โ€œAmy!โ€ Carly came running, and I opened my arms. โ€œHi baby.โ€ I hugged her to me and then pushed her back as I crouched down. โ€œHave you been a good girl for Aunt Wendy?โ€

Wendy smiled and nodded. Carly bounced. โ€œWe played board games.โ€

Wendy sighed. โ€œShe beat me every time.โ€ I chuckled.

โ€œGood.โ€ I looked up. โ€œWe have all the stuff here. We can hand it through, but we will have a guest with us at the cabin for a while.โ€

โ€œWho is it?โ€ Wendy leaned against the wall.

โ€œItโ€™s the sad warrior.โ€ Carly looked up at me. โ€œShe is sick.โ€

I nodded. โ€œExactly right.โ€ I booped her nose. โ€œBut now that we have this path, we have some rules.โ€ I pushed her back a few steps so that she was on the cabin side. โ€œStay over on this side unless there is an attack. Then you can come to hide on this side. But never, ever come over here, unless you have to, okay?โ€

Carly nodded. โ€œI know. Iโ€™m not safe over here without you.โ€

โ€œRight again.โ€ I smiled. โ€œOkay. Can you go sit on the bed while we bring stuff across?โ€ She smiled and ran back to my bed and crawled up into it. She took a deep breath, and I knew she was smelling my scent mixed with her dadโ€™s. She crinkled her nose. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€

โ€œYour scent is wrong.โ€

I chuckled. โ€œSmart kid.โ€ Toya came back with the first bags. โ€œHere, Wendy. These are the bags your mom left for you.โ€

โ€œThank you!โ€ She grabbed the bags and headed back to her room.

Toya left again as I watched Carly curl up into my bed. I walked over to her and stroked her hair. โ€œHow are you doing, Car?โ€

She snuggled her face into a pillow. โ€œIโ€™m sad, but Iโ€™ll be okay.โ€ She looked up at me. โ€œCan I have this pillow? For the shirt you gave me.โ€

โ€œOf course, baby. You can have whatever you want from here. The blankets, the pillows, anything.โ€ She jolted up.

โ€œSeriously?โ€

I just nodded. โ€œDid your daddy tell you about the sad warrior?โ€

She nodded. โ€œThe room next to Toyaโ€™s is for her. He said she will need to feel safe because of everything she had to go through.โ€

I furrowed my brows. โ€œThereโ€™s a room next to Toyaโ€™s?โ€ She nodded. She hopped up and grabbed my hand, pulling me down the hall. We stopped at a door I had never noticed. โ€œWhat theโ€ฆโ€

โ€œMy daddy made it that way. Unless you have a reason to come here, your head wonโ€™t see it.โ€ She opened the door, and I went to walk in, but Carly pulled me back. โ€œDaddy said no one but the sad woman should enter, so she feels safe.โ€

I crouched down and kissed her head. โ€œYou are so smart.โ€ She smiled, and then I headed back to the closet. Toya had dropped a few of my bags in the room, and she was coming through with her stuff. โ€œThat everything?โ€ She nodded.

โ€œYeah. We just need food and Lynn.โ€

I nodded. โ€œI have a plan for that. Iโ€™m going to go grab Lynn and bring her to her room.โ€ Toya just nodded. I looked down at Carly. โ€œThere is a hamper with your dadโ€™s clothes right there. Why donโ€™t you bring it to your room? Then you can come back in here and take what you want. How about that?โ€

Carly bounced over to the hamper and grabbed it. โ€œThank you.โ€ Then she was gone.

I smiled as I walked back over to my bedroom and crouched next to the bed. โ€œLynn?โ€ She cracked her eyes open. โ€œIโ€™m going to take you away from here. Somewhere safe, okay?โ€

โ€œSwear it.โ€ Her voice was ragged.

โ€œI, Amy Maclean, swear I am taking you off pack lands away from Derek, where you can stay in peace.โ€ Her eyes filled with tears, and she nodded. โ€œBefore I can take you there, Iโ€™m going to need some of your blood.โ€

โ€œWhy?โ€

โ€œTo add you to the protection spell. But I promise, as soon as you get there, you will be safe.โ€ She nodded and held out her wrist.

I looked around and grabbed the first thing I could find: a dish I used to hold my jewelry. I dumped out the few rings I had in it. โ€œThis might hurt.โ€ I shifted a claw and sliced her wrist. I watched her blood fill the dish, but something was wrong. โ€œWhy arenโ€™t you healing?โ€ I hadnโ€™t cut that deep.

Her voice was soft. โ€œWolfsbane.โ€

Fuck.
