Chapter 348
Two hours later, we were pulling back into the driveway, and I was exhausted. I was running on a few hours of sleep, and breakfast was my last meal. I was hungry and annoyed at everything.
We parked, and I heard a door open, and I wanted to cry. โNo.โ
My mom looked over her shoulder, and I saw her slump. โDeal with this now, or else you wonโt have peace.โ
I sighed as I hopped out. โHey Brandon.โ I looked at his father. โAlpha Vince.โ I turned to my mom. โDo you need any help, Mom?โ
Vince shook his head. โNo, we are here to talk to you.โ He looked at my mom. โHey Ainsley.โ She nodded.
โHey Vince.โ She opened the back door.
โMom, you can just drop everything inside.โ I walked over to hand her my key, but she smiled and jingled her own. I just nodded and turned back to Vince. โWhatโs up?โ
He looked over the bags my mom was bringing into the house. โYou went shopping?โ
I nodded and smiled. โI havenโt been able to have a shopping date with my mom for a few years. We figured we would do it today.โ
Vince smiled. โToya already gone?โ
I knew he was fishing, but I just nodded. โYeah, we dropped Lynn and Toya at the airport.โ
He nodded. โThey were able to get a flight that fast?โ He looked at Brandon, but I just laughed.
โGoddess no. I called my dadโs jet over.โ I laughed. โI guess itโs my jet now.โ My mom came back out for another few bags. โItโs weird thinking that everything that was my dadโs is now mine.โ I shook my head. โWhen I was at school, it didnโt matter since we were stuck on campus, but nowโฆโ I sighed. โAnyway. What can I do for you?โ
My mom walked away with a Dior bag out front, catching Vinceโs eye. โDior? Oh, you went on a nice little spree, didnโt you?โ
I laughed. โYeah. There is really no reason not to.โ I turned back to them. โDo you want to come in for dinner? My mom was about to cook.โ Brandon smiled and stepped forward.
But Vince put out a hand. โWe are just here to follow up on the position we offered you.โ
I furrowed my brow. โIโm sorryโฆโ
Brandon smiled. โThe one in the letter?โ He paused and looked at his dad.
Vince stepped forward. โYes. I was going to talk to you earlier, but after everything that happened earlier, we waited.โ He handed me a folder. โHere.โ
I accepted it with a smile. โThank you.โ I opened it and read the letter. It was an entryโlevel job offer for the security team. โWow.โ I looked up. โThis is generous.โ
Vince nodded, and Brandon nodded. He stepped next to me, reading over my shoulder. โI know you donโt need to work, but after going to school for it, I thought you would want to use your skills.โ He pointed to the letter. โThe salary isnโt the best, but you would get an office in the pack house. And you would work under Lester. He is the genius behind our firewall.โ
I smiled up at him. โThat would be amazing.โ He leaned in, and for a split second, I thought he was going to kiss me.
โWell, thatโs settled.โ Vince interrupted, jolting Brandon backward. โIf you are settled in back here, you can meet Brandon in the morning at the pack house around eight.โ He turned around and headed back to the car. โBrandon,โ he called back. โLetโs leave Amy to settle. She has bags to unpack.โ
Brandon sighed but pulled away. โIโll see you in the morning?โ
I nodded. โSee you tomorrow.โ My mom came out for another load of bags. I waved and then helped her with the last of the stuff. I heard the car door slam as we headed inside. We had barely made it into the living room before Shannon was running past us outside.
โHey Brandon,โ she called, but we heard the car pull away right after. I followed my mother up the stairs, and we had made it to my room door before Shannon came running up the stairs. โWhy was Brandon here?โ she shrieked as she came storming up to us.
I dropped my head back with a groan. โWhy are you yelling?โ
โWhy was Brandon here?โ she screamed again.
My mom, the saint, went into the room and dropped her bags, then came and got mine. I leveled Shannon with a look. โWhy does it matter?โ
โIt fucking matters. Why was he here?โ
I pinched the bridge of my nose. โVince offered me a job at the pack house. Brandon is going to meet me in the morning to show me to my office.โ I leveled her with another look. โBut it doesnโt actually matter, Shannon. You donโt care why they were here. You care more about Brandon and me having a relationship than you do anything else.โ I watched her face tighten. โSo I might as well tell you.โ
โAmy. Donโt.โ My mother tried to stop me, but I kept my eyes on Shannon.
โYou donโt care what I do. Just who Brandon is with.โ Shannonโs eyes darkened. โBut it doesnโt matter because Brandon already asked me to be his luna.โ
