Chapter 390

We walked into Vinceโ€™s office a few minutes later, and everyone was already waiting. Morgan and Shannon were on the left. One chair was empty to the right, and Brandon was standing next to Vince, who was already seated behind the desk, looking stern.

โ€œAlpha Vince,โ€ I nodded once and stood behind my mother, who took the chair.

โ€œVince,โ€ My mom looked to the left. โ€œI assume you know why we are here.โ€

He nodded. โ€œI did hear. But why donโ€™t you tell me?โ€

My mom rolled her eyes. โ€œIโ€™m here for a quick divorce and a transfer. I already submitted my request to the King.โ€ Everyone stopped breathing.

โ€œYou did what?โ€ Vinceโ€™s voice was barely a whisper.

But my mom smiled. โ€œDid you think I would stick around here?โ€ She chuckled. โ€œMy request to transfer has already been approved, my new pack has accepted me, and I just have to finalize everything here.โ€ She looked down at her nails.

โ€œYou had no right,โ€ Morgan screamed.

But my mom just swung her head toward him. โ€œAre you stupid?โ€

Morgan blinked slowly at her. โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œAre you stupid? Did you hit your head? Did you somehow forget everything about me in the span of a fucking day?โ€ She slammed her hand down on the table.

โ€œI, I, I.โ€ Morgan looked at Vince, and I could see the pleading look on his face.

โ€œI, I,โ€

โ€œWhat do you mean, Ainsley?โ€ Vince was doing his best to stay cordial, but he was failing. I leaned against the wall and watched everything unfold silently.

โ€œMy goddess-given mate cheated on meโ€ฆโ€ My mom shook her head as if that explained everything. And it honestly did. They were just too stupid to understand what she was saying.

โ€œYes, I know.โ€ Vince looked at me, but he raised his eyebrow like he was asking for an explanation.

I sighed, and I pushed off the wall. โ€œMy mother was almost dying, in pain, and as soon as she found out about the betrayal, she asked the King for a transfer, applied to packs, and was gone in a day. Mating bonds are obviously different from a marriage. One is more sacred, but less binding. If she could do all of that while dealing with losing my brother, this is nothing, and she is confused as to why you are both so blindsided by her swift actions.โ€

Vince turned to Morgan. โ€œWhat happened?โ€

Morganโ€™s voice failed him as he fumbled over his thoughts. โ€œIt was a mistake,โ€ he finally finished.

โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€ Vinceโ€™s eye twitched.

My mom clenched her fists. โ€œYesterday, I caught him in a lie. But letโ€™s be honest here. You arenโ€™t stupid, Vince, and you know everything that goes on in this pack house.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know what you are talking about, Ain.โ€ He smiled and did his best to seem like he was on her side. I watched his detached amusement. They were really going to pretend that no one had any idea Morgan was an idiot.

My mom smirked as she pulled out her phone. โ€œReally?โ€ She scrolled for a few minutes before she looked up. โ€œYou are sticking to the story. You donโ€™t know what Iโ€™m talking about, Vince?โ€

He held up his hands. โ€œAinsley, Iโ€™m on your side. I understand Morgan lied, but that doesnโ€™t qualify for a divorce. You need a better reason.โ€

She nodded. โ€œSure. But he swore to the goddess that if I could prove he was lying to me, that he was betraying me, that he would give me a quick divorce.โ€ She crossed her arms. โ€œAre you saying that you wonโ€™t follow the promise made to the goddess, because you think my reasoning isnโ€™t good enough to get a divorce?โ€ Her eyes turned cold. โ€œIs that what you are saying to me, Vincent?โ€

โ€œHey now. I understand he made promises, and I will do my best to make sure he follows through with them, but I donโ€™t understand. Were there any witnesses to the promise?โ€

I looked around the room, and Morgan shook his head. โ€œI never made the promise.โ€

My mother growled and shot to her feet. โ€œYou fucking lying piece of shit!โ€

Shannon came over and grabbed my motherโ€™s hand. โ€œMom, please. I know my dad lied to you, but you can work past this, please. Stay for me. Stop making up these lies about a promise to the goddess. We canโ€™t work through anything if we arenโ€™t truthful.โ€ She shot me a look, pleading. Then she turned to Brandon. Everyone turned to him. I could see him thinking through his choices.

โ€œBrandon? What did you see?โ€ Vince prompted him, but his eyes snapped to mine. There was pain there. I could see Brandon turn to Vince, and they were mind-linking. Vinceโ€™s eyes widened. โ€œAh, I see.โ€ Then Brandon turned and left.

โ€œHey!โ€ Shannon went to grab his arm, but he spun away and slammed the door. โ€œWhere did he go?โ€
