Chapter 409
But Megan ignored him. He stood and crowded the bars, drawing in more air and her scent. โFuck.โ Then he turned and spun away. โIโll be back with your next meal.โ He walked to the door, grabbed a tray he had left there, and came back. He pushed the food through the tray slot at the bottom of the door.
Megan popped up. She walked over slowly, watching Vince. She stopped short of his hands, then she pawed the food tray the rest of the way to her.
Vinceโs eyes almost completely disappeared into his pupils before his wolf took over. His eyes flashed to a soft chocolate brown, and there was a deep rumbling in his chest. โYou smell good.โ
Megan rolled her eyes and sniffed the food. Each item had to be sniffed, tasted, and then she had to wait for any reactions. But as soon as Megan sniffed the meat, she pulled back and swatted the tray against the bars.
Vinceโs wolf watched her, and then he smirked. โSmart girl. Most donโt notice the silver.โ Megan let out a low growl before she turned her back on him. He growled back. โYou can pretend you donโt find me to be a threat, but I know the truth.โ
She just flicked her tail, hopped back onto the bed, and closed her eyes.
Vince, or his wolf, watched them for a while longer before he stormed out of the building. The guard watching the door returned about five minutes after he had left. He was panting and had a half-eaten sandwich in his hand.
He settled into the chair and grumbled. โHe tells me to go have a fucking break and then screams at me for eating. What the fuck did he expect me to do?โ
Megan stayed in the same spot for the rest of the day. She didnโt touch any of the food that Vince brought her. She straight up ignored him every time he came in. The only thing she did was readjust every minute, sending her scent into the air.
It was slowly eroding at Vinceโs sanity. By the third day, he was actually drooling. He had just sent the guard away and he was already at the bars, as close as he could be.
As soon as Megan saw him, she stood and turned her back to him. Then she twitched her tail as she settled again, sending her scent into the air. He reached a hand in with some water. Megan heard a droplet of water hit the ground, so she opened her eyes, thinking it was from the cup, but she realized it was from Vince. He was frozen. His eyes were hooded and glazed. His mouth was slightly open as he panted in her scent, and another droplet of drool hit the ground.
โCome here.โ He tried to command her, but the words rolled off her back. He closed his eyes and hit his forehead against the bars.
He yelped and jumped back.
Megan just shook her head slowly. โDid you forget your own cell was silver?โ
Vince shook his head to clear it. โYour scent is making it difficult to think.โ
Megan scoffed. โSo you are blaming me for going into heat?โ She rolled her eyes. โI canโt control when it happens.โ She stood and hopped off the bed. She walked to the bars. โIf you donโt like the smell, let me go.โ She sat on her butt and glared at him.
โI donโt want you to leave.โ
She laughed. โItโs not like you like me.โ
โI do.โ Vince blurted out, and then realized what he did. His face went through the seven stages of grief, then he settled on anger. โStop fucking moving it around.โ He threw the cup down the hall. โItโs stinking up this fucking place.โ
I guess heโs moved on to anger, Nix snorted.
โYouโre fucking blaming me? You fucking brought me here.โ
โI had to,โ he hissed. โYou saw things you shouldnโt have, and if he fucking finds out, we are all dead.โ
โWho the fuck cares? Youโre the big bad alpha, as you fucking love to rub in my face. Who the fuck cares?โ
โGarith!โ There was that name again.
Who the hell is Garith? I feel like I should know, but something is blocking it. I looked at Nix and her eyes had glazed over. That isnโt normal. I growled.
Whatโs wrong? Nix snapped out of whatever had her.
Someone is using magic against us. Specifically, to make us forget who Garith is.
Nix furrowed her brows. Whoโs that?
Exactly. Who is he?
โWho the fuck is Garith?โ He froze, but Megan glazed over the name. โYou wanna know what? I donโt actually give a fuck. This man isnโt going to fucking care about a lone wolf out for a run.โ
Vince crouched down and leaned in to the bars. He took in a big sniff and then sighed. โYou are right. He wouldnโt care about youโฆand I shouldnโt either.โ Then he turned and left the jail, slamming the door as he left.
