Chapter 437
โHello Nina.โ I grinned as I faced her fully. โSo rude to charge in here and demand why I am here.โ I tilted my head. โWhy are you here?โ
She snarled. โI go here.โ
I felt my grin turn a little predatory. โThatโs right, you didnโt graduate yet.โ She growled again, but I shrugged. โI get it, hard course and all.โ I tilted my head. โBut why are you here?โ She snapped her teeth at me, and I felt my eyes flash. โI might not come here anymore, but I will give you a bit of grace and tell you to remember who youโre snapping at.โ
She seemed to take a minute to hear my words before she snapped her mouth shut again. I watched her anger simmer behind her eyes, but she just nodded, more to herself than me. โI donโt need to answer you.โ
โThat is true.โ I walked closer to her. โYou donโt need to speak with me.โ
โBut you have to explain yourself to me.โ Sterlingโs voice was glacial. โNow, since you wonโt answer Alpha Amyโs question, Iโm going to demand you answer mine. Why are you here, Alpha Nina?โ
She spun around, and I watched as she tried to puff up. โWho do you think you are speaking to me like this?โ She took a step up to him. โIโmโฆโ She looked at me, and I watched her mouth tighten. But she didnโt say anything else.
I walked up behind her. โYouโre what, Nina?โ I sidled up next to her. โYou canโt say you are the next queen now, can you?โ I smirked. โNot since the King announced his engagement.โ I tilted my head. โNow, what is your rise to power? Is it your uncleโs position on the council? No, canโt be that. Heโs dead. Your sisterโs power was next in line? Has she actually taken over the chair?โ I smirked as she paled. โWhat could you possibly wield over all of us this time?โ
She stuttered. โIโm an alpha in my own right.โ She sneered before she turned back to Sterling. โYouโre just a guard.โ
I snorted. โHe is a royal gamma.โ I cut a look at her out the side of my eyes. โYou do realize that, right?โ
โHeโs a gamma.โ She sneered.
โA royal one.โ I turned to face her. โI have the distinct feeling you donโt understand the difference.โ
Sterling crossed his arms. โNot many do.โ He looked her up and down. โI am as polite as I am because of my position, but you have run my patience dry, Alpha Nina.โ
She snarled. โYou donโt get to talk to me like that.โ She pointed to his face. โRoyal pack or not, you are a lowly gamma, barely a step up from being unranked. You are pathetic.โ I threw my head back and laughed as Sterlingโs face settled into cold, calculating lines. She whirled on me. โWhy are you laughing?โ
โBecause you are stupider than I had originally thought.โ I strode to Sterlingโs side. โYou were so obsessed with Rowan, only to get tossed away. And now you are here, insulting his guard and friend.โ
She looked between us. โYouโre bluffing. Heโs just a gamma!โ She shrieked at me.
โI honestly think you never pay attention in school.โ She growled, but stayed silent. โLet me spell it out for you.โ She crossed her arms and waited, but I could tell on her face that she didnโt expect me to say anything of importance.
โGo on then.โ She smirked. โTell me how important this gamma is.โ
I smirked. โWhat do you know of the royal pack?โ
โThey no longer exist. It was the Lycan pack, but they are all dead. So the king filled it with random wolves.โ She looked at me with wide eyes and a snarky grin.
I nodded. โI mean, you are sort of right.โ She looked smug. โBut I mean not really.โ Her smile dropped. โThere have always been wolves in the royal pack. Itโs not just lycans. And those wolves that he โfilledโ the pack with werenโt random, but wolves heโs trusted, trained, and grown to care about. Any of them in any position with rank means that he specifically selected them for the position because he is the alpha of the pack, as well as the king.โ
She rolled her eyes. โSo.โ
โSoโฆโ I snorted. โSterling is Rowanโs friend, a close friend to be selected to guard his home.โ I looked back at Sterling, and he nodded. โDid I get it right?โ
He looked down at me and smiled. โAlmost.โ My smile dropped. โI donโt normally bring this up because it doesnโt matter, but my family has always been in the royal pack, because Iโm Rowanโs cousin. Sadly, I didnโt get the Lycan gene. I was raised with him his entire life.โ Then he turned back to Nina. โLowly gamma and all that aside, Rowan is my brother. And you have been told you arenโt allowed here anymore. If you come here again, I will push for your family to be excommunicated fully.โ
