Chapter FortyโFive
โWhat?โ My brain froze for a moment. What the fuck did he mean he was the king?
His chuckle was deep, and my body responded, clenching in my lower body. โI am the king, pup. Go save your father. Once itโs done, tell him I will head there soon.โ His voice took a dark turn, and I felt an edge to it.
โOkayโฆ I will.โ
โOh, and Amy?โ
โYes?โ
โTell Ronnie he should have called the regular number instead of my cell phone. There are channels that you usually have to go through for this normally, but Iโll let it slide this one time because itโs an emergency.โ
โWill do, your majesty.โ
His laugh was loud and instant. โYou donโt have to call me that, little wolf. But have Ronnie give you my cell number. I like all my alphas having my number in case things like this happen.โ
โIโm not one of the alphasโฆโ
โYou might not run a pack, but you are an alpha.โ His voice still held a bit of amusement.
โOkay.โ I felt uncertain. โIโm sorry, I donโt know what to call you.โ
โRowan. You can call me Rowan.โ
โKing Rowan, thank you.โ
โI donโt make anyone call me king. Just Rowan.โ
โOkay, Rowan, thank you.โ
โGo save your dad. I have a bone to pick with him when I get there.โ
โRowan.โ I started and then froze.
โWhat is it?โ
โI know you donโt like my father.โ
โWho said that?โ His voice cut me off again, deeper this time.
โHe did,โ I said slowly.
โWell, I could never say your father was stupid.โ There was a sigh from his side. โJust because I may or may not have personal feelings towards a wolf under my command doesnโt mean I would let it influence how I govern them. Your father doesnโt deserve to be manipulated, and his pack doesnโt deserve to be taken over by a she-wolf who is unworthy.โ
โThank you, Rowan.โ
โNow, do what you have to do. I will speak on your behalf with the council, and I will personally come check in on your pack when I can.โ
โI will inform everyone before I leave.โ
โLeave?โ
โYes. I live with my mother in Oakenfangโs pack grounds. I was only visiting my fatherโs pack for the summer.โ
โAh yes, I remember now. Well, I guess then, if the Goddess allows, I will meet you when I can. Goodbye, Amy.โ
โBye, Rowan.โ I replaced the receiver on the phone and glared up at Ronnie. โYou called the kingโs personal line!โ I screeched as I stood.
Ronnie had the sense to look away. โI figured it was important enough to call straight to him.โ
โThen whyโฆโ I stopped mid-sentence. โYou know what? I donโt care. I need to interrogate Aurora.โ
โWhat do you plan on doing?โ
โWhatever it takes.โ I stood.
โThen come with me.โ Ronnie looked a little pale, but he headed out of the office and down a few flights of stairs until we ended in the basement. He brought me to a door and then stopped with his hand on the handle. โAre you sure about this? I could get Beck to do this instead.โ
โI have to do this.โ He wilted in front of me and then opened the door. I hissed at what I saw there. The room was filled with silver knives and different devices that I had never seen before. โGrab what you need.โ
I slid into the room and selected a few things. Then I carried them out and waited for Ronnie to close the door behind us. โYou have become more terrifying just with the tools you selected.โ
โI want to scare her, but I also need to have things I might need to make her talk. I was serious when I said I would do whatever I need to make her talk.โ
โAmy, I really wish you would let Beck or me do this for you.โ He grabbed my arm, and I dropped a pair of pliers.
I bent down and grabbed them and stood. โI know, but I wonโt make you do something I myself wonโt do. And this isnโt for you to do when there is an alpha to do it.โ
โThis isnโt your pack.โ
โBut it is still my fatherโs, and it falls to me to handle.โ
โButโฆโ
โNo more buts. Bring me to the interrogation room so I can set everything up before you and Beck grab her.โ I raised my eyebrow. โBefore you try to say you donโt have one, every pack has one.โ
Ronnie snapped his mouth shut and motioned for me to follow. He opened a door, punched in a code, and stairs opened up, and we headed farther down.
