Chapter 458

Instantly, I was back on the table, having this man cut my pup out of me. I growled so viciously that Rick paled. โ€œAre you okay?โ€

His words were soft, panicked. I stared at the doctor, who froze. Luke raised his hands in surrender. โ€œHey, I know Iโ€™m new, but Iโ€™m just here to help.โ€

Nix scoffed. Eat him.

Megan laughed, but shook her head. โ€œHeโ€™s innocent. Even back then, it was Brandon that the alpha commanded him to hurt us.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t care, he killed our pup,โ€ Nix snapped.

โ€œBut he allowed us to hold him in the last seconds,โ€ I called back, watching her settle.

โ€œFine, but just this time.โ€ Nix stalked off into the trees, followed by Megan.

โ€œIโ€™ll watch over her. Send a call when we can heal you.โ€

I turned my attention back to Luke. My chest tightened as I remembered him covered in our blood, but I shook it off. โ€œItโ€™s fine,โ€ I whispered to Rick, and he laid me down on the table.

โ€œWhat happened?โ€ Luke began checking me over. โ€œRogue attack?โ€

I scoffed. Rick looked towards the door. โ€œAlpha.โ€

The doctor stopped and looked towards the door. โ€œWhere?โ€

I couldnโ€™t help it; I laughed. โ€œNo, he means I was attacked by the alpha. Or the alpha-to-be, anyway.โ€ Luke froze.

โ€œAre you kidding me?โ€ I shook my head, yelping from the pain. Lukeโ€™s face darkened. โ€œIโ€™ll be right back.โ€ He left the room, and I looked at Rick, who shrugged.

โ€œI donโ€™t have any clue.โ€ He looked increasingly anxious.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€ I raised an eyebrow. He blew out a breath.

โ€œIโ€™m just worried.โ€ He looked at me, then back to the door.

It took a minute, but I understood. โ€œGo.โ€

He shook his head. โ€œYouโ€™re hurt.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m fine. You got me here,โ€ I patted his arm. โ€œI can do the rest myself.โ€

He looked back at me. โ€œButโ€”โ€

โ€œBut nothing,โ€ I shook my head slowly. โ€œI know youโ€™re worried about your family after helping me. Go.โ€ I pushed him as hard as I could, but he turned and tried to hand me my bag. I looked up at him, confused.

โ€œWhile you were busy with Vince and Brandon, I grabbed your bag, laptop, and phone,โ€ he said, placing them on my bed. โ€œI figured youโ€™d want these with you.โ€ His expression told me he knew I wouldn't want Vince to get his paws on them.

I nodded. โ€œThank you.โ€

He nodded. โ€œDinner?โ€

I cracked a smile. โ€œIs still on.โ€

He nodded, then turned. โ€œStay safe.โ€

I pulled out my phone. โ€œYou too.โ€ I sent him a coded text, instructing him to take Shelly and Abby to the house and giving him my back door code. He checked his phone as he left. Rick turned, caught my eye, gave a tiny nod, waved, and then was gone.

I lay down on my bed and waited for the doctor to return. Nix was still on edge; I could hear her deep in the woods, but at least I could call for my wolves if anything happened.

Luke walked back into the room, and I tensed. He must have sensed it, because he slowed down and raised his hands again. He waved his phone. โ€œI just went to get my phone. If youโ€™re okay with it, Iโ€™d really like to take pictures for my report to Rowan.โ€

My eyes widened. โ€œRowan?โ€

He nodded. โ€œThe king. I trained to be a doctor in the royal pack; all doctors do.โ€ He came closer. โ€œCan I document this?โ€

I nodded. โ€œWill you send this directly to him?โ€

He nodded. โ€œYeah. I took a little longer grabbing my phone because I already called him. Heโ€™s expecting the pictures.โ€

I sighed. โ€œGreat. Just what I need.โ€ I sighed again. โ€œGo ahead.โ€

He took pictures of my face from different angles, then checked my face. He clicked a button and started speaking. โ€œPatient has a broken cheek. Possible broken occipital bone, broken blood vessels in both eyes. Nose is broken, in what looks to be three spots.โ€ He hissed as he checked my lip. โ€œSplit lip.โ€ He pulled away. โ€œIs there anything else?โ€

I nodded toward my side. โ€œIโ€™d love to help, but I have a rib sticking through my side.โ€

He cursed, put the phone down, and grabbed some scissors. He slowly cut my shirt away. Then he started talking to himself again. โ€œPatient has her sixth and seventh ribs protruding through her skin.โ€ He sniffed near the wound. โ€œSheโ€™s also bleeding into her lung.โ€ He turned back to me. โ€œWhy arenโ€™t you healing? Do you know if youโ€™ve ingested wolfsbane?โ€

I heard a soft growl, but my head was pounding, so I hushed Nix. โ€œNo wolfsbane.โ€

โ€œIs that Amy?โ€ I heard a faint voice, but my brain finally caught up to the pain. Darkness took me before I could answer.
