Chapter 575
โFucking hell, woman.โ Rick whirled at her voice. โWear a bell.โ He clutched his chest as he settled his breathing. Toya covered her snicker by clearing her throat.
My grandma smirked before she turned back to me. โRun.โ She pointed to the crack. โNow.โ She turned back to the wall, and as she stepped through the rock, the crack grew into an archway. โYou are running out of time.โ Her voice called back to us, and I turned and sprinted down the steps.
โAmy.โ Rowan called after me, and one by one I heard my mate and my friends follow.
โHurry.โ I called back. The urgency was back, weaker this time. I knew with certainty that when the urgency went away this time, it would be because my father was dead.
โWhere the hell is this going?โ Rick called to me. If it were any other time, I would have laughed. I turned to look over my shoulder, and I stumbled over my feet, hitting the ground with a grunt.
โAmy?โ Rowan was at my side almost instantly. His hands wrapped around me, and he lifted me to my feet. โAre you wrong?โ
โIccas lumin torcanta.โ I threw the ball of light up to float above my head as I gazed at the rock wall. My fingers stretched out to trace the large crack in the wall.
โAmy?โ Toyaโs soft call had me snapping back to reality. โWhat are you looking at?โ
My fingers traced the broken edge again, and Carlyโs words came back to me. The crack is open. โThis is new.โ My words held a soft edge to them.
โWill this cave in?โ Rick looked around, and everyone heard the swallow that echoed down the cave. โBecause that seems like probably the worst way to go.โ
His words caused me to turn; a flicker of something pulsed in the back of my mind. โWhat?โ I turned away from the crack, and my finger caught on a sharp stone, causing me to hiss. I brought my hand into the light and watched as blood poured from my finger, too much for the minor cut I had.
I heard a deep crack. My eyes flickered, then everything went dark.
โHello?โ I called. My voice was hoarse, and my breathing was excruciating. Every breath was fire. The air was thick, and I could barely make out any shapes, even with my wolfโs eyes. โIccas lumin torcanta.โ I whispered the spell, and a tiny wisp flickered to life.
I was surrounded by broken stones, and thick dust motes flew in the air. I heard groaning and a few cries off to my left, but I couldnโt tell how far. The rocks were interfering with the acoustics of the tunnel.
I tried to reach out. Rowan was right next to me when everything went dark, but there was no one but rocks. I tried to shift, and thatโs when I finally realized I was pinned. My mind finally caught up with my body, and I screamed. The air ran out faster than normal. Dust coated my tongue when my scream ran out, leaving me coughing.
I tried to gather my strength to move the rock pinning my left arm, but I was too weak from being here for hours.
Hours? I shook my head. I havenโt been in here for hours. The tunnel was less than a minute agoโฆunless I was knocked unconscious. I tried to shake my head again to clear it, but it just made me dizzy. โHELLO!โ I screamed again. Panic crawled up my throat.
โHold on, Gav!โ Ronnieโs voice called back to me. โDonโt panic. You will use up the air. We are coming for you. Just hold on.โ
I leaned against the stones I was wedged between. My head hit the edge of the rock, making me wince again. I knew it was getting to the end. I wouldnโt make it. โIโm sorry, Ains, Amyโฆ I guess itโs not in the cards for us.โ The wisp I made flickered onceโฆtwice, before my magic faded, and the light faded with it.
โAmy!โ I opened my eyes to find Rowan cupping my face. The realization slammed into me, making my stomach roll. โBaby?โ He leaned in and kissed me. โYou scared the shit out of me.โ He pulled back, and I saw the pale color of his skin. โYou dropped to the ground, and your eyesโฆโ
โWhat?โ My throat felt raw, like I was breathing in a ton of dust.
โThey went whiteโฆlike Carlyโs.โ Toya peeked around his shoulder. โYou have visions?โ
I blinked up at them and took a breath. The coughing started, and I had to push away from Rowan before I started throwing up. The dark, thick liquid pooled under me.
โWhy is she throwing up dirt?โ Rick leaned closer.
โWhat are you talking about?โ Toya looked up at him from my side.
Rick just pulled out his phone and turned on the flashlight. โLook. Itโs not food. The dark stuff in her bile. Itโs dirt.โ He turned to me as I caught my breath. โWhy are you throwing up dirt?โ
โMy dadโฆโ I finally cleared my lungs and pushed to my feet. I staggered down the darkened tunnel. โMy dad is trapped.โ
