Chapter 592
The doctor moved to my fatherโs bag first and showed the rest of us how to open it fully. Then we all split off and ran around the room to every wolf and opened their infusion.
The last one was a frail-looking woman, and I felt bad. โIโm sorry I have to do this.โ I opened her I.V. and watched as she paled and shook.
She gasped but just closed her eyes. โItโs okay. We all understand.โ I patted her hand and stood. Her arm snapped out and grabbed me. โWe are going to make it through this, right?โ Her eyes were full of pain and worry.
โI donโt know.โ I wouldnโt lie. โBut I know we will do everything we can to keep you all safe.โ She nodded once before releasing me.
I was on the other side of the room when another call came in. This time it was Ronnie. โTrey. Good. Have they questioned anything yet?โ He was quiet for a few more seconds. โBring the car to the opposite side of the airport and wait until they decide to run instead.โ He waited a few more seconds. โExactly.โ Ronnie sighed. โThanks Trey. Oh, and call when they leave.โ He hung up his phone and sank down next to my dad. โHe will let us know.โ
Rowan made it back to my dadโs bed at the same time as I did. โDid your guys say whether or not they brought any guards?โ
Ronnie puffed out his cheeks. โThe guards are on a different plane. Apparently, the council thinks they are too good to travel with the help.โ Ronnie laughed, but it was empty. โThatโs what they are waiting for right now. The guardsโ plane left about thirty minutes after the council members. So, they are waiting for them to arrive. And they ordered a bus and a limo.โ
โA bus?โ I turned to Rowan. โWhy would they need a freaking bus?โ
Rowan looked almost gray. โThey probably mobilized the entire council guard.โ There was a soft drumming again, and Rowan pulled out the black phone. โYeah?โ He was silent for a few seconds. โWe have men at the airport. Bring everyone back here. Good.โ Then he hung up.
โBring who here?โ I furrowed my brow.
โMy elite guards,โ Rowan said slowly, as if he was confused by my question.
โWhy are they here?โ I lifted an eyebrow. โShouldnโt they still be at the capital?โ
Rowan walked over and felt my forehead, like I was sick. โAre you okay?โ He leaned down. โI sent my guards here years ago, to watch over your dadโs pack and Carlyโฆremember?โ
I stood there confused until a memory bubbled up. We were on a call when I first told him about Carly. โThat was during my first year of school. They have been here since then?โ He nodded once. โBut who watched over you in the capital?โ
Rowan frowned. โNo oneโฆthatโs why I pretended with VerityโฆI couldnโt exactly push back when I had sent my warriors away.โ My mouth dropped open. โI thought you knew.โ
I just shook my head, and then I turned to my dad. โDid you know?โ
My dad shook his head slowly. โNoโฆI mean, well, yes, I knew he sent guards here for Carly, but once we set Carl and his pup at the cabin, I never saw them again.โ My dad turned to my mate. โWe assumed they went back to you.โ
Rowan shook his head. โI kept them around here, working behind the scenes to keep Carl and Clary safe, making sure they have food, especially once you all hid in the Agora.โ I felt like a bitch. All the hatred I had built up when, in fact, he was just trying to stay alive. Rowan cupped my face and turned me to him. โI know you are beating yourself up. But donโt.โ
โBut I hated you for so long and then the entire time you were protecting my pup. My family. My pack.โ He smiled. โThatโs what any king would do. Add on to it, I was head over heels in love with you just added another layer.โ He kissed me. โDo you still hate me?โ
I shook my head. โOf course I donโt. I love you.โ I smacked him. โIโve always loved youโฆeven when I hated you.โ
He kissed me again. โYou are my mate, and even when I hated you, I still loved you too. Even if I didnโt love you, even if we were never mates, I would have sent my guards to protect Carly. She is the Shaman, and she canโt fall into anyoneโs hands. So donโt feel bad.โ He booped my nose and then turned to my dad. โThey will be here within ten minutes.โ My dadโs mouth dropped open. โThey are running.โ My dad just nodded.
โWell then, letโs figure out how the fuck we are going to survive this fucking shit show.โ
I raised a hand like I was in school. โDoes the council know who is in this pack? Like everyone?โ
My dad furrowed his brows. โI donโt know. Ronnie, Tina, and me, they know for sure. Why?โ
โBecause I have an idea. But I need to know exactly who they know and who they donโt, and then I need the rest of you to hide.โ I turned to Rowan. โIncluding you.โ
Rowan stared at me for a few seconds before his eyes tightened. โI donโt want to leave you alone with them.โ
โI know. But they will be more arrogant if itโs just me.โ I smiled as I rubbed my hands. โAnd thatโs how we can catch them.โ
