Chapter 592

The doctor moved to my fatherโ€™s bag first and showed the rest of us how to open it fully. Then we all split off and ran around the room to every wolf and opened their infusion.

The last one was a frail-looking woman, and I felt bad. โ€œIโ€™m sorry I have to do this.โ€ I opened her I.V. and watched as she paled and shook.

She gasped but just closed her eyes. โ€œItโ€™s okay. We all understand.โ€ I patted her hand and stood. Her arm snapped out and grabbed me. โ€œWe are going to make it through this, right?โ€ Her eyes were full of pain and worry.

โ€œI donโ€™t know.โ€ I wouldnโ€™t lie. โ€œBut I know we will do everything we can to keep you all safe.โ€ She nodded once before releasing me.

I was on the other side of the room when another call came in. This time it was Ronnie. โ€œTrey. Good. Have they questioned anything yet?โ€ He was quiet for a few more seconds. โ€œBring the car to the opposite side of the airport and wait until they decide to run instead.โ€ He waited a few more seconds. โ€œExactly.โ€ Ronnie sighed. โ€œThanks Trey. Oh, and call when they leave.โ€ He hung up his phone and sank down next to my dad. โ€œHe will let us know.โ€

Rowan made it back to my dadโ€™s bed at the same time as I did. โ€œDid your guys say whether or not they brought any guards?โ€

Ronnie puffed out his cheeks. โ€œThe guards are on a different plane. Apparently, the council thinks they are too good to travel with the help.โ€ Ronnie laughed, but it was empty. โ€œThatโ€™s what they are waiting for right now. The guardsโ€˜ plane left about thirty minutes after the council members. So, they are waiting for them to arrive. And they ordered a bus and a limo.โ€

โ€œA bus?โ€ I turned to Rowan. โ€œWhy would they need a freaking bus?โ€

Rowan looked almost gray. โ€œThey probably mobilized the entire council guard.โ€ There was a soft drumming again, and Rowan pulled out the black phone. โ€œYeah?โ€ He was silent for a few seconds. โ€œWe have men at the airport. Bring everyone back here. Good.โ€ Then he hung up.

โ€œBring who here?โ€ I furrowed my brow.

โ€œMy elite guards,โ€ Rowan said slowly, as if he was confused by my question.

โ€œWhy are they here?โ€ I lifted an eyebrow. โ€œShouldnโ€™t they still be at the capital?โ€

Rowan walked over and felt my forehead, like I was sick. โ€œAre you okay?โ€ He leaned down. โ€œI sent my guards here years ago, to watch over your dadโ€™s pack and Carlyโ€ฆremember?โ€

I stood there confused until a memory bubbled up. We were on a call when I first told him about Carly. โ€œThat was during my first year of school. They have been here since then?โ€ He nodded once. โ€œBut who watched over you in the capital?โ€

Rowan frowned. โ€œNo oneโ€ฆthatโ€™s why I pretended with Verityโ€ฆI couldnโ€™t exactly push back when I had sent my warriors away.โ€ My mouth dropped open. โ€œI thought you knew.โ€

I just shook my head, and then I turned to my dad. โ€œDid you know?โ€

My dad shook his head slowly. โ€œNoโ€ฆI mean, well, yes, I knew he sent guards here for Carly, but once we set Carl and his pup at the cabin, I never saw them again.โ€ My dad turned to my mate. โ€œWe assumed they went back to you.โ€

Rowan shook his head. โ€œI kept them around here, working behind the scenes to keep Carl and Clary safe, making sure they have food, especially once you all hid in the Agora.โ€ I felt like a bitch. All the hatred I had built up when, in fact, he was just trying to stay alive. Rowan cupped my face and turned me to him. โ€œI know you are beating yourself up. But donโ€™t.โ€

โ€œBut I hated you for so long and then the entire time you were protecting my pup. My family. My pack.โ€ He smiled. โ€œThatโ€™s what any king would do. Add on to it, I was head over heels in love with you just added another layer.โ€ He kissed me. โ€œDo you still hate me?โ€

I shook my head. โ€œOf course I donโ€™t. I love you.โ€ I smacked him. โ€œIโ€™ve always loved youโ€ฆeven when I hated you.โ€

He kissed me again. โ€œYou are my mate, and even when I hated you, I still loved you too. Even if I didnโ€™t love you, even if we were never mates, I would have sent my guards to protect Carly. She is the Shaman, and she canโ€™t fall into anyoneโ€™s hands. So donโ€™t feel bad.โ€ He booped my nose and then turned to my dad. โ€œThey will be here within ten minutes.โ€ My dadโ€™s mouth dropped open. โ€œThey are running.โ€ My dad just nodded.

โ€œWell then, letโ€™s figure out how the fuck we are going to survive this fucking shit show.โ€

I raised a hand like I was in school. โ€œDoes the council know who is in this pack? Like everyone?โ€

My dad furrowed his brows. โ€œI donโ€™t know. Ronnie, Tina, and me, they know for sure. Why?โ€

โ€œBecause I have an idea. But I need to know exactly who they know and who they donโ€™t, and then I need the rest of you to hide.โ€ I turned to Rowan. โ€œIncluding you.โ€

Rowan stared at me for a few seconds before his eyes tightened. โ€œI donโ€™t want to leave you alone with them.โ€

โ€œI know. But they will be more arrogant if itโ€™s just me.โ€ I smiled as I rubbed my hands. โ€œAnd thatโ€™s how we can catch them.โ€
