Morgan's eyes widened. "But but this will never do!"
"If you insist on pestering me," Tyrell warned coldly, "it won't be as simple as cutting off ties."
Morgan was completely blindsided. He dared not push his luck with Tyrell Kinney any further. After a moment's thought, he left with his wife and son.
As soon as they were gone, Piper huffed disdainfully. "What an ill-mannered thing! Absolutely loathsome!"
"Alright, just take it easy," Tyrell said, patting her back to calm her. He then turned to Gwenda. "I've heard everything about what happened tonight, Miss Evans. Thank you."
"Don't mention it; it's the least I could do," Gwenda replied with a faint smile.
Piper chuckled. "Tyrell, you must know that if Gwenda hadn't spoken up for me, I would have been positively nettled by Morgan Wright!" She felt fonder of Gwenda than ever before.
"I'm indeed grateful, Miss Evans," Tyrell said. "If we have time, my family will certainly visit you to thank you properly." He nodded lightly.
Gwenda smiled. "It's okay, you don't have to. I'm not used to people standing on ceremony."
"Oh, it's necessary," Piper insisted, walking over to sit beside Gwenda and taking her hand. "I have been blind to blame you as I have. Please accept both my apology and my gratitude. If you ever need help from us Kinneys, feel free to ask."
Gwenda, touched by their friendliness, agreed. "Alright, I'll take it."
Suzanne then said, "Alright then, this matter is over. Piper, you must be tired. How about staying the night here?"
"Oh, no. My son is already here; I must go home."
Piper turned to Gwenda. "Gwenda, come visit us if you're free. We welcome you anytime."
"Okay," Gwenda replied.
"Well, madam, we'll be off," Piper said as the maid brought out her grandchildren.
Sylas, frightened by his earlier fall into the pool, rushed to his father the moment he saw him, hugging Tyrell's leg and fawning over him. Tyrell lifted his children into his arms. After saying goodbye to the Reeds, he left the mansion with Piper.
The Reeds watched the Kinneys drive away.
"Well, that's that then. It's finally settled," Suzanne said, sighing in relief once the Kinneys were gone. "Gwenda, stay the night, alright? You can leave after breakfast tomorrow."
"Sure," Gwenda replied. It was late, and she had no intention of going home.
"Let's go, then. Time to rest," Suzanne said.
"Take it easy, Grandma," Gwenda said, helping Suzanne back to her room.
Meanwhile, in the Kinney car, Piper discussed the events of the evening.
"Thank goodness for Gwenda tonight. If it weren't for her, Sylas might have" Piper's fears lingered. "You must remember Gwenda's kindness and repay her in the future."
"Got it, Mum," Tyrell replied. He, though naturally callous, would remember Gwenda's kindness and repay it.
"By the way, Imani still doesn't know about this, does she?" Piper asked.
"Nope," Tyrell answered.
"Ah, if so, don't tell her about it first; it might affect her work. If she knows, she'll be worried sick. Mothers are always most concerned for their children, after all." Piper smiled, seemingly thinking of something. "But with that said, what do you think about Gwenda?"
