Gwenda led Cecilia to the CEO's office floor. Cecilia followed closely, never straying. The secretary, alerted beforehand, guided them to the office and, after knocking, admitted them. This was Gwenda's first visit to August's office since her "rebirth." Nothing had changed; it looked exactly the same.
"Why are you here?" August asked, his frown betraying his displeasure. He clearly resented her presence.
Gwenda ignored his displeasure and calmly introduced Cecilia: "August, this is Cecilia Kelly, an artist formerly with KG Entertainment."
August looked at Cecilia, who stood nearby. She wasn't ostentatiously dressed, but she was beautiful. However, by entertainment industry standards, she was unremarkable.
Dismissively, August asked, "And?"
Gwenda rushed to his desk, leaning against it. Grinning intently, she said, "My dear cousin, I got her from KG Entertainment. Remember our agreement? Prove myself, and you give me Grandma's shares. You can't break your promise!"
August was taken aback. His eyes flashed. "So? Just because of this, I have to give you the shares?"
"What do you mean?" Gwenda's smile vanished, her gaze sharp.
August leaned back, raising an eyebrow. "I've never heard of this Cecilia. How do I know you're not trying to trick me? I'd lose a great deal!"
Gwenda was speechless. This cousin is shrewd, she thought incredulously.
"Then what do you want?" August asked.
"Prove to me she has value, then I'll consider the shares," he said, deliberately making things difficult. He knew Gwenda lacked patience for complex matters; delaying would likely make her give up.
Understanding his tactic, Gwenda glared and extended her hand. "I want money!"
"What money?"
"Do you think promoting an artist doesn't cost money? Lend me ten million dollars; I'll repay you in six months," she said confidently.
August was amused and annoyed. "And why should I?"
Gwenda sputtered in disbelief. Gritting her teeth, she hissed, "Fine! You're breaking our deal and refusing a loan! I'll tell Grandma; let's see what she does to you!" She turned to leave.
August frowned and stopped her. "Wait!"
Gwenda stopped but didn't turn. Knowing she wouldn't quit, August sighed. "Fine, I'll lend you the money, but on one condition: if you can't repay it in six months, I'll consider it payment for renouncing all ties to the Reeds."
"Deal!" Gwenda agreed instantly.
August had his secretary summon someone from the legal department to draft a promissory note. After signing, Gwenda received the ten million dollars. Seeing the money in her account, her eyes gleamed.
"Just you wait; you'll see me in a different light!"
"Uh-huh, sure. We'll talk after you've done it," August said dismissively.
Gwenda ignored him, pocketed the promissory note, and left with Cecilia. Later, August summoned his assistant, Eric. "How's the investigation coming?"
