Listen to this chapter:

"Get in the car," Olivier said. He opened the front passenger door for her.

Gwenda ignored him, stubbornly holding out her hand. "Give me the attendance sheet first," she demanded haughtily.

Olivier chuckled. "I've already handed it in to Mr. Smith."

"You—"

"But don't worry," he interrupted. "I marked you as present, not absent."

Relieved, Gwenda sighed. "Oh, then I'll be leaving." She turned to go.

Eyes flashing, Olivier grabbed her wrist, pulling her back against the car door. Gently lifting her chin with his other hand, he said, "Your habit of burning bridges hasn't changed after two months, huh?"

"What are you doing? We're in school!" Gwenda tensed, her eyes darting nervously.

"Will you get in the car?" Olivier asked, slyly cocking an eyebrow.

Gwenda gritted her teeth. This scoundrel! she thought.

"Will you get in the car or not?"

"Fine, I will!" Gwenda conceded helplessly.

"Now that's better!" Olivier ruffled her hair, released her, and opened the car door.

He started the engine, and they drove off. Gwenda glared at him, turning to the window, fuming silently. This ahole hasn't changed a bit. He still shows up whenever he wants and does whatever he likes without explaining where he's been these two months. What happened? Why did he suddenly show up again? He's totally making a fool of me, and it's absolutely abhorrent!

She remained moody throughout the drive until the car stopped.

"Why did you bring me here?" she asked irritably, seeing the restaurant.

Unbuckling his seat belt, Olivier smiled. "We're having a meal."

"I don't want to eat with you!"

"Well, I do." Ignoring her, he opened the passenger door and led her inside. A waiter showed them to the best table, with a stupendous view.

Gwenda's bad mood persisted. Too many questions gnawed at her heart, fueled by resentment. He disappeared without a trace for two months, leaving his things behind. Did he even exist? After they ordered, Olivier chuckled at her angry face. "Still angry?"

Gwenda looked away.

"Mad because I left without notice, or because I teased you about leaving class early?"

Both! she thought angrily.

Seeing her silence, Olivier smiled resignedly. "You don't want to know what I did these past two months?"

"None of my business," she retorted, though she desperately wanted to know.

He smiled again and continued regardless. "The fire from two months ago—that wasn't an accident." Gwenda's head snapped around.

He calmly continued, "The police contacted me after you left that day."
