Chapter 145: Winnings of the Battle

Elder Han laughed. “Ye Mo, you needn’t be humble. The money you received wasn’t even 10% of its true worth, so I thank you on behalf of the country. You’ve made a significant contribution to the military.”

Ye Mo smiled but didn’t reply. He lacked that kind of conviction. If someone offered a higher price than Li Hu, and he didn’t object to that person, he wouldn’t have hesitated to sell it.

Seeing Ye Mo’s silence, Li Hu quickly said, “Elder Han was a commander in the Beijing military district; he’s a lieutenant, Ye Mo…”

Elder Han, having heard Li Hu, waved his hand. “I’ve heard from Li Hu about Ye Mo’s exploits in the desert. I heard you were buying a phone at the market yesterday, and I knew you’d come looking for Li Hu. I came to see you today. You’re Wentian’s son, aren’t you? Sigh, Wentian was destined for great things, but he left too soon. Things have been harsh on you and your siblings.”

Ye Mo, hearing this, formed a favorable impression of Elder Han. Yesterday, he wouldn’t have felt anything, but seeing Ye Ling’s condition, he knew how difficult things had been for her.

“Elder Han, you’re too kind. I should be visiting you,” Ye Mo replied.

Elder Han nodded. “I’ve heard about your situation. Beirong and Yuanyi are old companions of mine. This time, Beirong was truly in the wrong. You’re like your father, Wentian—an elite. You’re even better than Wentian. Sigh, Ning Fuzhen was also in the wrong this time.” He shook his head.

Elder Han’s name was Han Zaixin, a commanding officer at the Beijing military district. Though retired, he oversaw several special ops squads. Flying Fox was one of them, and the most famous. Flying Snow was also under his command.

Ye Mo knew Beirong and Yuanyi—Ye Beirong, the Ye Family leader, and Song Yuanyi, the eldest of the Song family. Ning Fuzhen was likely from the Ning family.

After a moment of silence, Elder Han said, “Ye Mo, if you’d like to join my special ops, you could go to Flying Snow—the best in the country. You could advance further there. Plus, if you joined Flying Snow, I’d help you with your issues with the Ye and Song families.”

Though Li Hu didn’t know Ye Mo was from the Ye family, Han Zaixin did. He hadn’t been sure until someone reported it yesterday—that Ye Mo had come to Beijing and bought a phone at a supermarket. He immediately came to see what Ye Mo wanted, to see this proclaimed human scum, so excellent in Li Hu’s estimation, and why he had such enmity with the Song family, and how he’d so easily given away important military data.

Seeing Ye Mo’s composure, confidence, and sharp features, Han Zaixin wanted him for his talent. His primary reason was Ye Mo’s contribution of the data, but he also wanted to compensate Ye Mo. He considered Ye Mo’s abilities comparable to Li Hu’s—talented, but not extraordinary.

Yet, he realized the power of gossip. Ye Mo was no human scum; his fearless demeanor told Han Zaixin he was no ordinary man. Even a scion of a prominent family would be nervous meeting a lieutenant. Ye Mo only greeted him after he mentioned his father.

“Brother Ye said the entire Flying Fox is no match for you. Du Tao wants to test that,” said the man behind Elder Han.

“Blasphemy! Du Tao, you’re a special ops instructor. What are you fighting Ye Mo for? Leave it,” Elder Han immediately rebuked.

Du Tao, seeing Elder Han’s quick response, backed down, disappointed. Though the vice head of Beijing’s police department and a special ops instructor, he was still a member of Flying Snow.

Ye Mo smiled at Du Tao. “You’re no match for me either. There’s no point in fighting.” He wouldn’t be polite to this man. He didn’t want to keep a low profile in Beijing; he’d teach those who needed a lesson.

“You…” Du Tao regretted his inability to teach Ye Mo a lesson, and being mocked only fueled his anger. He bowed to Elder Han. “Head, allow me to spar with Ye Mo. I’ll control myself; I won’t hurt him.”

Han Zaixin initially didn’t want Du Tao to fight Ye Mo. Du Tao was an intermediate-level yellow martial artist. However strong Ye Mo was, he was only on par with Li Hu, not a true martial artist. Yet, Ye Mo’s words surprised him.

He wanted to see how strong Ye Mo was. He nodded. “Okay, since you want to fight, keep it appropriate.”

Du Tao was a trusted man, and Ye Mo was a promising youth and Ye Beirong’s grandson. If Ye Beirong knew how excellent he was, he’d take him back into the family. Plus, he’d contributed invaluable military data. Though still being evaluated, Han Zaixin knew the model was worth over $30 million, with much of its value still unknown. This was why he’d personally come.

Unexpectedly, Ye Mo said, “I won’t fight you. My skills are for killing; I’m not interested in games. Your leg martial arts aren’t bad, but I’ve faced someone ten times better, and he lasted only twenty moves before I disabled his legs.”

Ye Mo spoke unconcerned. He knew Du Tao’s strength lay in his legs, but how could they compare to Wu Qiang’s? In Ye Mo’s eyes, Du Tao wouldn’t last fifty moves against Wu Qiang.

Elder Han’s permission given, Du Tao was eager to teach Ye Mo a lesson, but Ye Mo’s nonchalant description of disabling someone’s legs soured his mood.

The young woman beside Elder Han noticed Ye Mo. She’d thought him ordinary, but he was arrogant. Did he really see Du Tao’s skill was in his legs? How? She could sense her own abilities, but not Ye Mo’s.

“Oh.” Elder Han was intrigued. He knew Du Tao’s leg skills. Ye Mo had assessed this with a glance. Was the difference truly minimal?

Thinking Ye Mo might not be much weaker than Du Tao, Elder Han’s eyes gleamed. He needed manpower. Ye Mo was cold, decisive, and young. If as strong as Du Tao, taking him into the special forces would mean…

He couldn’t resist. “Okay, let’s have a wager. I’ll sponsor it. The winner chooses a weapon from the extreme weapons vault.”

Hearing “extreme weapons vault,” Du Tao’s eyes lit up. He’d once had a dagger from the vault, helping him through countless missions. Losing it in Tibet was a regret. A strong weapon would greatly increase his abilities.

Ye Mo was uninterested. What weapon could be stronger than those he made? He didn’t care. If he had the materials, he’d already made one.

Seeing Ye Mo’s lack of interest, Li Hu said, “Brother Ye, don’t underestimate the vault. It contains top-quality materials, some unheard of. A significant portion comes from hidden sects.”

Hearing “hidden sects,” Ye Mo was mildly interested. “Aren’t hidden sect items rarely seen in the ordinary world? How could they be in the extreme weapons vault?”

Li Hu smiled. “Brother Ye, you know about hidden sects. The weapons aren’t bought but traded for materials. The country seeks rare materials and trades them with hidden sects for special weapons.”

Ye Mo’s eyes lit up. He’d been searching for materials! A country’s collection would be extensive. His storage ring lacked some materials needed for forging. Finding high-quality materials would be a boon.

Ye Mo stepped before Elder Han and bowed. “Elder Han, I don’t want weapons. I’d prefer materials. What do you think?”

Elder Han, hearing Li Hu and Ye Mo, smiled. “Materials are used to trade for weapons. It’s fine if you want them, but you must win. If you beat Du Tao, you can choose ten.”

Ye Mo smiled. “Okay, thank you.”

Du Tao was furious. Ye Mo didn’t take him seriously, acting as if victory was assured.
