Chapter 19: The Girl at the Classroom Door

Translator: Tim; Editor: Tehrn/Carolin

โ€œQingxue, I donโ€™t know what to say, but the Song family is powerful and image-conscious. If you marry Ye Mo and something happens to him, it will reflect poorly on them. They wouldnโ€™t do anything that doesnโ€™t benefit them,โ€ Li Mumei analyzed shrewdly.

Ning Qingxue nodded after a momentโ€™s silence. โ€œOkay, I owe him again.โ€

Li Mumei shook her head. โ€œNo, Qingxue, this time heโ€™ll owe you. Ye Mo feels differently than you; heโ€™ll be glad to help. Letโ€™s use Jingwenโ€™s birthday tomorrow as an excuse to go to Ning Hai. After the party, Iโ€™ll go with you to see Ye Mo and reveal our plan.โ€

Ning Qingxue knew Su Jingwen. Once a renowned beauty in Beijing, Su Jingwen had moved to Ning Hai years ago after her motherโ€™s misfortune. Li Mumei and Su Jingwen remained close friends.

โ€ฆ

Ye Mo finally arrived in class, having already self-taught himself the university curriculum. He only came because Shi Xiu had free meal vouchers for the school cafeteria.

Shi Xiu was Ye Mo's only friend at Ning Hai University. He usually sat beside Ye Mo in class, a habit unchanged even after Ye Moโ€™s expulsion from the Ye family. Shi Xiu had helped Ye Mo immensely after his expulsion, and along with Wang Ying (whose assistance may have been due to Ye Ling), provided crucial support. Shi Xiu, however, was Ye Mo's true friend.

โ€œYe Mo, this is Heartless Bingโ€™s class. Youโ€™re already on her bad side; itโ€™s best to stay quiet. She might cause trouble if she sees you,โ€ Shi Xiu cautioned.

Ye Mo smiled and patted Shi Xiu's shoulder. โ€œI donโ€™t care about narrow-minded women. Donโ€™t worry, I can be quiet for a month, let alone during a class.โ€

Shi Xiu smiled doubtfully.

A sharp, crisp voice interrupted. โ€œWho are you calling narrow-minded, Ye Mo? Youโ€™ve got the nerve to come to class after what happened?โ€

โ€œYan Yan, Ye Mo wasnโ€™t talking about you. What right do you have to say anything?โ€ Shi Xiu bristled.

โ€œOh, Shi Xiu, youโ€™re feeling brave today!โ€ Yan Yan, taken aback by Shi Xiuโ€™s defiance, went on the defensive. Ye Mo pulled Shi Xiu aside. โ€œIgnore her; treat it like a harmless dog barking.โ€

โ€œYe Moโ€”โ€ Yan Yan pointed, ready to unleash her anger. Ye Mo sneered. โ€œBeing ugly isn't your fault, but flaunting it is. And, didn't you say I couldn't get into bed with you? I'm not interested in dinosaurs.โ€

Ye Mo was venting the previous bodyโ€™s frustrations. Yan Yanโ€™s arrogance had reached its limit. Sheโ€™d started to retaliate whenโ€”

A soft voice from the classroom doorway cut her off. โ€œYe Mo, Iโ€™ve been looking for you.โ€

All eyes turned to the doorway. The male studentsโ€™ gazes were fixed on a stunningly beautiful girl. She was naturally beautiful, makeup-free, with shapely eyebrows and a gentle smile. She was far more beautiful than Su Mei, the universityโ€™s supposed beauty queen.

Yan Yan was stunned speechless. Sheโ€™d just declared that no one was prettier than her, and thenโ€”a far superior beauty was calling for Ye Mo?

Ye Mo gave Yan Yan a cold stare. He had no intention of associating with her.

โ€œJingwen, whatโ€™s up?โ€ Ye Mo was surprised Su Jingwen had come to the classroom. Her words suggested this wasn't her first visit.

Su Jingwen rolled her eyes at his informal address but didnโ€™t comment. Her past experiences had made her wary of men, but she was less guarded around Ye Mo, who resembled someone she knew. His clear, honest gaze, and his student status, gave her a good impression.

โ€œCanโ€™t I just visit? Are you free? Letโ€™s talk outside,โ€ Su Jingwen smiled.

Ye Mo nodded helplessly. Heโ€™d learned that free meals came at a cost. One meal had earned him a midnight shift, and now this. He told Shi Xiu not to wait for him.

As Ye Mo and Su Jingwen left, he saw their English teacher, Yun Bing, enter with textbooks. Her face showed disgust at Ye Mo's departure, but surpriseโ€”then pityโ€”when she saw Su Jingwen.

Ye Mo didnโ€™t care; his grades meant little to him.
