Chapter 256: Meeting Beiwei Again

This was Ye Mo's second visit to Tan Du. His first trip, with Wen Dong, ended with the demolition of a mansion before they even entered the city; he wasn't familiar with the place. Tan Du Shi Fan University, however, was well-known. He hailed a taxi; the driver knew the location.
At the university gates, Ye Mo observed the students. Pairs of young men and women strolled arm-in-arm or hand-in-hand. If he didn't know this was a university, he might have mistaken it for a wedding registration office. He sighed; these students seemed more open than those at Ning Hai University. Then again, his knowledge of Ning Hai University was limited, having spent most of his time in the library.
Despite the bustling crowd, Ye Mo possessed a distinct, almost ethereal aura. Years of cultivation had refined his temperament, and his clothes, selected by Ye Ling, were both stylish and high-quality. He stood out immediately.
His otherworldly demeanor attracted attention, sparking conversation among the students. Unsure of Tang Beiwei's location or course, he knew only that she studied there. Approaching the entrance, he stopped a girl carrying several books. "Hello, may I ask..." he began politely.
Before he could finish, the girl snapped, "I don't know."
Confused, Ye Mo hadn't even stated his question. He mused, "Who says only girls know where the girls' dormitories are? Guys should know too!" He berated himself for his naiveté, but also for the girl's rudeness. He stepped aside and stopped the young man behind her. "Excuse me, do you know where the girls' dormitories are?"
Before the young man could respond, the first girl whirled around, saying sweetly, "Oh, I'm so sorry! I do know where the girls' dormitories are. I'll take you there."
The abrupt change was jarring. Ye Mo frowned, suspicious. The young man he'd initially asked quickly slipped away, unnoticed.
The girl's behavior aroused Ye Mo's suspicion. She appeared older than most students—likely in her twenties—relatively pretty with fair skin and shoulder-length hair. Beneath a cool exterior, however, he sensed arrogance and a hint of coldness. Something about her felt wrong. To avoid trouble, he said, "No need. Just point me in the right direction."
She seemed taken aback but quickly insisted, "No, I'll take you. You won't find it otherwise," her forced enthusiasm clashing with her inherent coldness.
Before Ye Mo could reply, a bright red sports car screeched to a halt. A handsome young man emerged.
He approached the girl and said, "He Qi, what a coincidence! Let's go together."
Ye Mo, unfamiliar with most cars beyond the very high-end, didn't recognize the make or model.
He Qi suddenly lunged for Ye Mo's hand. He deftly moved aside, surprising her. His reaction was instantaneous; she hadn't even sensed his movement. He Qi felt a pang of annoyance. Was his reaction simply because she was a pretty girl? If he didn't have his air of mystery, she would never have offered to help him.
Ye Mo's disgust deepened. She was like Su Mei—using him to avoid the young man. Incredibly, this stranger wouldn't even help him find his way but was happy to use him as a shield. If she'd simply directed him, he wouldn't have minded assisting. Instead, He Qi was using him to block someone she disliked; the man in the sports car was clearly someone important. Any other guy would have been in trouble. Her self-centeredness was appalling.
Ye Mo sneered, having no intention of assisting her.
The young man extended a hand. "Hello, I'm Zhang He." His demeanor was polished and polite.
However, Ye Mo's spiritual sense detected a tiny prick on Zhang He's ring; a faint blue light flickered. The prick was almost invisible. Shaking hands would have embedded the needle in his hand. This was malicious; the seemingly amicable smile concealed a cruel intent. Ye Mo didn't know if the needle was poisoned, but it wasn't ordinary.
He deflected a strand of chi into the young man's palm and said coldly, "Not interested," before turning to leave.
Zhang He, surprised Ye Mo hadn't even accepted his handshake, felt his eyes turn cold. He hadn't believed anyone would notice the nearly imperceptible needle on his ring.
"Wait!" He Qi, surprised Ye Mo was ignoring both her and Zhang He, chased after him.
"Get lost," Ye Mo said without hesitation.
The students around were stunned. Someone dared tell Princess Qi to "get lost"? Was he drunk? He Qi, equally shocked, reacted quickly. "I have nothing to do with Zhang He. Please don't misunderstand," she explained, reaching for Ye Mo's sleeve.
Zhang He fumed. His affections were being rejected publicly.
Ye Mo laughed, incredulous. He'd simply asked for directions! He shrugged off He Qi's hand. "You have nothing to do with him just because you say so? I don't believe a woman like you would have nothing to do with anyone. I'm not the slightest bit interested in you. Don't bother me, or you'll regret it."
He Qi was shocked. This was the first time someone had disregarded her beauty so completely. She considered using him a favor; this man was completely different. She couldn't comprehend his reaction. While she had nothing to do with Zhang He, his words still stung.
She paused, momentarily captivated by Ye Mo's unusual temperament, handsome features, and otherworldly aura, forgetting her retort.
Ye Mo's spiritual sense located Tang Beiwei, her head bowed, walking toward a classroom. He had no time for He Qi, taking a few strides forward. When she reacted, he was already tens of meters away.
He Qi was stunned. She blinked, wondering if she'd imagined it.
Zhang He, putting away his phone, sneered at Ye Mo's retreating back. He'd only intended a minor inconvenience; now he was furious.
"Beiwei, what's wrong?" Ye Mo found Tang Beiwei crying in a secluded corner.
Tang Beiwei looked up, dazed. "Big Brother..." she sobbed, running into his arms.
Ye Mo noticed her necklace; it had clearly been activated, indicating an attack.
He patted her shoulder. "Beiwei, what happened? You're so thin! Did someone attack you?"
Tang Beiwei took a deep breath. "Big Brother, I thought I'd never see you again. I couldn't reach you..."
"Don't rush," Ye Mo said soothingly, wiping her tears. "You haven't eaten. Let's talk over dinner." @@novelbin@@
