Chapter 339: If You Don’t Die, I Can’t Rest Easy
Translator: Tim Editor: Fish Creek
After Ren Sha rammed into the wall, he disappeared in an instant. Ye Mo had no time to check where Ren Sha went; he felt immediate danger. A black ray, exploding with destructive chi, erupted before him. Ye Mo, standing on his flying sword, rose into the air without hesitation.
Rumble! Almost simultaneously, a deafening explosion rocked the area. The grand mansion was reduced to rubble.
Ye Mo, watching the debris from mid-air, was shocked. He hadn't expected the Gu King to possess such a weapon. If he'd been even slightly slower, he would have been severely injured, if not killed.
Such a lethal weapon! Ye Mo stared at the smoking ruins. No one inside could have survived. This wasn't ancient martial arts or cultivation; the black ray was undeniably technological. Even a chi-gathering tertiary-stage cultivator wouldn't have survived that blast unscathed. It was far more powerful than a grenade.
The sound of approaching fire trucks reached his ears. Ye Mo's face fell. The Gu King's use of such a weapon meant he hadn't died. If he had, he wouldn't have needed to ram the wall. If his sword hadn't severed one of Ren Sha's hands, perhaps Ren Sha would have escaped unharmed.
Ye Mo hadn't killed him immediately because he wanted to dismantle the entire organization, not just eliminate the Gu King. Since he'd come, he intended to kill them all. He simply hadn't anticipated the Gu King's traps.
Undeterred, Ye Mo extended his spirit sense. Moments later, he located a deep trench behind the wall—a well-designed, roughly 100-meter-deep pit. The mechanism was simple: ramming the wall triggered the trench's appearance. Anyone falling in would be caught by a net and lowered to the bottom, where a transport device awaited. Though unseen, Ye Mo knew the Gu King must have taken it.
Knowing the Gu King's escape route, Ye Mo didn't descend. He considered his options from mid-air; entering the tunnel directly was too risky. The Gu King had likely booby-trapped it.
As he contemplated his next move, the fire brigade arrived.
Rumble! Another deafening explosion, this one originating from underground, shook a nearby building.
Vicious! Ye Mo watched the distant explosion coldly. His desire to kill the Gu King intensified. Had he pursued Ren Sha, he would have been caught in that explosion. The Gu King’s planning was meticulous—a long underground tunnel. His wealth and connections were clearly extensive.
Who, besides the government, would dare dig such a tunnel in a busy city? But this exposure might unearth another nest of corrupt officials.
Ye Mo disregarded this. He turned invisible, released a marked Gu insect, and followed.
…
Dozens of kilometers away, in a private manor, Ren Sha emerged from an underground elevator, pale and one-armed but alive. His years-old escape route had saved him. Without it, Ye Mo would have killed him.
"Ye Mo," Ren Sha hissed, his voice filled with murderous intent, "If I don't kill you, I swear I'm not human!"
He hadn't expected Ye Mo to be so formidable. He'd been completely outmatched. Despite his unused resources, he didn't believe he could defeat Ye Mo. He hadn't thought the final blast would kill Ye Mo; if it had, the man wouldn't have been so troublesome. Even if Ye Mo survived, Ren Sha assumed he'd be severely injured.
Regardless, he wouldn't let Ye Mo go. Once his arm healed, he would exact his revenge. Deep down, however, he still hoped Ye Mo had followed him into the tunnel and perished in the explosion.
"Gu King…" Another man approached, kneeling reverently, seemingly ignoring the broken arm.
"Prepare a helicopter," Ren Sha ordered coldly. "I'm leaving."
"Yes," the man replied, quickly departing. Soon, a helicopter arrived.
Ye Mo followed the Gu insect, eventually reaching the private manor. As he entered, he saw the helicopter lift off. He stowed the Gu insect and pursued on his flying sword.
The helicopter landed on a southern sea island, Ren Sha's private retreat and cultivation site—now, his refuge.
Ren Sha disembarked. His arm had stopped bleeding; he'd used top-grade medicine. This injury, however, fueled his rage. Whether Ye Mo lived or died, his massacre wouldn't stop.
"Ye Mo, I swear here today, that if I don't kill everyone around you…" Ren Sha was interrupted.
"What do you plan to do?" Ye Mo's cold voice echoed in Ren Sha's ear.
Ren Sha spun around, his eyes falling on the seemingly spectral Ye Mo. He was frozen. Regardless of Ye Mo's knowledge of the island, how could he have arrived so quickly? He'd taken a helicopter; could Ye Mo fly?
"You… are you human or ghost...?" Ren Sha’s mind struggled to comprehend Ye Mo’s sudden appearance. Teleporting from Hong Kong to this island was beyond belief.
Ye Mo sneered. "Weren't you just vowing to kill me? Now that I'm here, you're afraid? I'm here for your revenge."
Ren Sha’s heart sank. Ye Mo's power exceeded his understanding. He had no chance. Though he didn't know how Ye Mo arrived, he knew defeat was certain.
"Spare me! Anything you say, I'll do it. I'll be your… your animal!" Ren Sha knelt, desperation driving his words. He’d never knelt before; it was his first time. He looked down, desperate, and saw his henchman drawing an assault rifle from the helicopter, aiming at Ye Mo's back.
Ren Sha’s heart pounded, but he didn't dare reveal his thoughts. He silently urged his man to fire.
Ye Mo didn’t even glance back, simply releasing a fireball.
Rumble! The helicopter and the henchman erupted in flames.
Ren Sha, scorched, felt his heart grow cold. Ye Mo hadn't even reacted to the burning helicopter; he just looked at Ren Sha plainly. "I won't let a mad dog bite again. If you don't die, I can't rest easy. You're just an ant to me."
Looking down at the kneeling Ren Sha, Ye Mo smiled. "Tell me how to dismantle your organization, and I'll grant you a quick death."
"I'll fight to the death!" Ren Sha lunged, drawing a flexible axe and hacking at Ye Mo's lower dantian.
Ye Mo had seen flexible whips and swords, but never a flexible axe. However, one-armed Ren Sha was no match for him. Ye Mo waved a hand, severing Ren Sha's remaining arm. The axe, kicked back by Ye Mo, severed Ren Sha's leg.
Stepping forward, Ye Mo slapped Ren Sha's head, his voice cold. "Tell me. I want to exterminate Earth Fiend. What methods do you have?"
