Chapter 416: Heart Longing for Return

Translator: Tim Editor: GlobeGlotter

She remembered Ye Mo accepting her at the bottom of the Shen Nong Jia cliff, and her happiness then. She had gone to the Flowing Snake desert and Shen Nong Jia for him.

Ye Mo had done so much for her; she felt her actions necessary, especially since she loved him, her husband.

Heaven pitied her when she saw Ye Mo near death under the cliff. There, she experienced the most wonderful time of her life. He ate with her, taught her cultivation, even washed and carried her out of Shen Nong Jia.

He found the Face Preserving Fruit, and though knowing it was useless to eat immediately, he gave her this precious fruit.

“I still have many more, but even if this were the last one, I would give it to you if you wanted to eat it. Because, if you like it, I will give it to you.”

That's what Ye Mo had said. She had then declared her eternal devotion to him.

But why did she not remember him after her injury? Why had she been so heartless? Ning Qingxue suddenly hated herself, hating even more the person who caused her memory loss.

Her love was paramount, surpassing everything, even her will to live. Yet, when Ye Mo found her, she told him to piss off.

“Did I hurt you?” Ning Qingxue’s heart ached. She wanted to appear before Ye Mo, tell him that wasn't what she truly meant. She regretted that day; she shouldn't have listened to her mother and should have let Ye Mo try to recover her memories.

She finally understood why she had protected this memory in her soul as she neared death. If it happened again, she would do it without hesitation. Whether one life or ten thousand, she would always remember Ye Mo, his treatment of her, and her love for him. Ning Qingxue opened her eyes, tears streaming down her face. Ye Mo was her everything.

She was grateful to Li Mumei for giving her the courage to regain her memories. She couldn't understand why her mother had stopped her; it was the most precious thing in her life.

“Ye Mo…” Ning Qingxue murmured, rising. She didn't want to stay on that island; she desperately wanted to see Ye Mo. To her, he was everything.

She finally understood about spirit sense; the image in her mind was real. She remembered the girl in Ning Hai, Tang Beiwei, who claimed to be Ye Mo's sister. It felt strange. She knew Ye Mo's sister was Ye Ling, not Tang Beiwei.

Ning Qingxue grabbed her gun and left the cave. She didn't want to stay. She needed to return and find Ye Mo.

However, Ning Qingxue stopped. She remembered seeing about twenty savages enter the ship. She didn't know how long she'd spent recovering her memories, but the grey sky suggested less than eight hours. She looked back at the ship but saw no one. Had those primitive people been killed by the ghost ship?

Ning Qingxue subconsciously felt the four fireball charms on her.

She knew that to leave, she needed the ghost ship. Without it, she couldn't escape the island.

She checked her weapons and forced herself to calm down. Her desperation to see Ye Mo overshadowed her fear of the ghost ship. She believed her gun, fireball charms, and necklace gave her better odds of survival on the ship than on the island, with its primitive people and active volcano.

Kyuuu… a piercing shriek made the intensely focused Ning Qingxue shiver. She looked up and saw a white figure perched on a branch, staring at her.

It was a strange bird, condor-like. Such a rare condor in the sea was unusual.

However, Ning Qingxue saw intelligence and emotion in its eyes. She rubbed her eyes, thinking she must have been mistaken. Could a bird possess such emotions?

The condor-like bird circled her, then landed atop a tree. Seeing it, Ning Qingxue remembered a shadow she'd seen while sleeping yesterday. It was the condor. But why had it flown into the cave? Had it tried to harm her?

Ning Qingxue shook her head, dismissing the bird. She looked at the ship, deciding to board it. Even if she didn't die there, she didn't want to live like this. After regaining her memories of Ye Mo, living alone would drive her mad.

As Ning Qingxue walked toward the ship, the bird followed. She stopped, looking at it curiously. She muttered, “I’m leaving, why are you following me?”

As if understanding, the bird mourned and circled her again.

Ning Qingxue saw pleading in its eyes; she was sure of it. This bird was so humanistic. She rubbed her red eyes and headed toward the ship.

As she left, the white bird yowled again, circling her. Ning Qingxue finally understood it was trying to tell her something.

“Do you want something from me?” she asked. Then she realized: how could a bird understand her words?

But the bird nodded vigorously.

Ning Qingxue froze. Could such an intelligent bird exist? What did it want? She took a can from her bag, placing it before the bird. “Do you want to eat this?”

The bird flew down, grabbing the can in its beak. It placed it back in Ning Qingxue’s hand and circled her again.

Ning Qingxue understood, staring at the bird in shock. “Do you want me to take you with me?”

The bird nodded again.

Ning Qingxue frowned. “Isn’t this island great? People live here. Furthermore, I don’t even know if I can survive at sea; your survival is uncertain.”

The bird heard her, opening its wings and circling above her head. It yowled, flying toward the island's center, then returning. Besides anticipation, melancholy filled its eyes.

Ning Qingxue felt a special bond with the bird, perhaps due to her cultivation? There were many primitive men; why did it choose her?

Suddenly, she remembered the bird's yowling near the island's center. Did that mean the volcano was about to erupt? But with so many primitive people, the island must be old. How could the volcano coincidentally erupt now?

Thinking this, Ning Qingxue asked, “Are you saying this island’s volcano is about to erupt? Do you want to leave?”

The bird vigorously nodded.

Ning Qingxue looked at the bird joyfully; such intelligent birds were rare. At least, she'd never heard of one.

And this bird wanted to come with her. If so, she would have a companion on her journey back. It was far better than being alone on a glacier. However, she was curious how the bird arrived on the island.

Seeing the increasingly intense sulfurous eruptions from the island's center, she believed the bird was right. The volcano was about to erupt.

“Okay, then follow me for now. I’m going to that ship; there might be danger. Follow me from the air.” Ning Qingxue liked the white-feathered, humane bird more and more.
