Chapter 479: Tomb Raider

Ye Mo recognized the two girls. One was the woman whose arm he’d severed after leaving the desert; she’d attended the auction with her master, a beautiful nun named Zi Xu. Her arm had been reattached. Unexpectedly, Zi Xu, already at the yellow level tertiary stage and skilled with flying daggers, was in the tournament.
Ye Mo also knew the other girl; he’d encountered her at the Xiang Yun military base. She seemed hostile. He didn't know her name, but both women clearly held some grudge against him.
In the second round, Han Yan easily defeated a yellow level peak stage warrior and returned to the 36 Rivers region to watch the tournament. Zi Xu’s opponent was a yellow level middle stage warrior—the lowest level in the tournament. She forwent her flying daggers, using a longsword to win easily. The cold woman also won easily, but afterward, Ye Mo felt she glared at him coldly.
He stroked his chin, wondering, ‘I’ve never met you before. Why are you so prejudiced against me?’
The afternoon round lasted longer than the morning round. By 6 p.m., the eighty competitors were selected. The next round would be the following day. No one stayed overnight at Broken Top Mountain, so everyone returned to their hotels.
Invited by Wang Xiyue to a rooftop dinner, Ye Mo found numerous people waiting. Nearly every sect representative at the hotel came to greet him. Han Yan, unaware of Ye Mo killing Wang Lenchan, was startled by the crowd. Ye Mo, having no desire to socialize, dealt with them briefly and dismissed them.
Leaving Han Yan practicing her second sword movement, Ye Mo returned to Broken Top Mountain, this time by flying sword.
…
Upon landing at the mountain’s foot, he saw two men moving furtively. Everyone knew the place was haunted; why were they there at night? He quickly realized a third person was with them. The two men were uncultivated and carried tomb-raiding tools.
Ye Mo shook his head. These tomb raiders were courting death. But seeing the third person—the cold woman—was even more shocking. What was she doing there, following two untrained tomb raiders?
Using invisibility, Ye Mo watched the tomb raiders enter the mountain. He was puzzled. Experienced raiders wouldn’t choose this time; the tournament brought many people.
“Er Ya, this place feels colder and eerier than usual. I’m uneasy. Will we be alright?” the shorter man shivered.
Er Ya, taller and more astute, replied quietly, “Gang Hu, we have to do this now. Broken Top Mountain isn’t ordinary. We’re not the only ones who know, but why don't others dare come? The yin chi is too strong. Lately, the government’s event at the top has drawn many—about 10,000 people today. That intense yang chi thins the yin chi, giving us our best chance. After this, no one will come, and the yin chi will be too strong.”
Gang Hu nodded. “If this really is Yuan Tiangang’s descendants’ tomb, maybe we can switch to feng shui afterward.”
Ye Mo agreed with Er Ya’s logic, unaware the yin chi was artificially created. Mention of Yuan Tiangang’s descendants piqued his interest; Yuan Tiangang was a fortune teller and feng shui master, possibly holding useful knowledge. Ye Mo followed them.
Er Ya and the others walked for nearly an hour. Reaching a slope, Er Ya used a measuring device before stopping at a spot.
“Is this it?” Gang Hu asked.
“Should be,” Er Ya replied, placing down his bag and assembling a Luo Yang spade.
“Er Ya, I’m scared. Something feels wrong,” Gang Hu said worriedly.
Er Ya cursed, “Useless! It’s not our first time. If this is his tomb, it'll be our last job. Don’t fear; keep your yang chi strong. We won’t finish today; it'll take at least three days.”
They dug quickly and efficiently. Ye Mo noticed the cold woman watching from a distance but not approaching. He wondered if she wanted a share of the loot or was interested in the tomb’s secrets.
An hour later, Er Ya set up a pipe bomb and they retreated. The explosion revealed an old, unfinished raid hole containing two bodies. They’d been trapped there.
Er Ya and Gang Hu entered, Er Ya soon yelling joyfully, “Hu Zi, we’re lucky! An unfinished raid hole! Two qianbei died here. Hu Zi, get the black donkey hoofs; in case of undead.”
