Chapter 558: Source of the Spirit Chi Translator: Timothy Editor: GlobeGlotter

Seeing Edward’s mind wander, Ye Mo slapped the chair’s armrest, shattering it. “Edward, I’m asking you something. Didn’t you hear me?”

“Huh, yes!” Edward flinched, then subsided, dared not look away. “It’s all because, a few years ago, I found an animal that can seek treasure.”

“An animal that can seek treasure?” Ye Mo stood, intrigued. That sounded like a spirit beast.

“Yes, yes,” Edward stammered, seeing Ye Mo rise.

Ye Mo waved a hand. “Continue. What sort of animal? Be specific.”

Edward continued, “It’s fox-like. The person who gave it to me said it’s a snow fox from China’s Mei Nei Snow Mountains.”

“I just thought it was cute, so I kept it in my manor. I didn’t know it could seek treasure. Then, one day, a friend was showing off his shooting skills and killed it.”

Edward peeked at Ye Mo. Ye Mo wondered if it was the white fox he’d seen in the Mei Nei Snow Mountains.

Ye Mo glared. “Edward, since it was so cute, why did you let it be killed, you fool? What does this have to do with the spirit chi in your garden? Talk more nonsense and I’ll give you a fireball.”

Spirit chi? Edward didn’t know, but seeing Ye Mo’s anger, he blurted, “No, wait! I had people remove the fox, and they found a pile of diamonds beside it. They weren’t diamonds; a pretty, milky white crystal. The nearby plants seemed prettier, and the air was better, so I—”

“What did you do?” Ye Mo felt a bad premonition.

Edward shivered. “I had it ground to powder and mixed with water to water my garden. The plants thrived, the air improved, and my migraines vanished. I knew the crystals were good, but—”

Slap! Ye Mo broke the other armrest. “But what? Did you grind all the crystals?”

“Ye—yes,” Edward whimpered, sweat dripping.

Ye Mo knew those crystals were spirit stones. What a waste! A magical creature killed, the spirit stones ground to powder!

Seeing Ye Mo’s face, Edward said, “There are more snow foxes in the Mei Nei Snow Mountains. As soon as I understood the snow fox’s power, I sent Ericson back.”

Was that fox the one he’d seen? If snow foxes had such abilities, they’d be top-grade spirit beasts.

A spirit beast that found spirit stones—absurd! Thinking of the man he’d killed in the Snow Mountains, Ericson. Good thing he killed him. Otherwise, the fox would’ve been lost.

The Snow Mountains reminded Ye Mo of Song Yangzhu, her fiery passion and snow-white skin. He shook his head, dismissing the thought.

He was sure the fox he’d seen was a snow fox. First, snow foxes fear strangers, but it hadn’t feared him—a spirit cultivator. There were none on Earth except him. It must have sensed his difference. Second, when the spirit well exploded, the snow fox found it first.

That cute creature was a treasure?! If it followed him, who knew how many spirit stones he might find?

Snow fox? Spirit-seeking beast? Ye Mo wanted to return to the snow mountains immediately.

Seeing Ye Mo’s silence, Edward grew uneasy. Just as he pitied his fate, Ye Mo said, “On account of your useful information—”

Edward rejoiced, but before he could speak, a fireball flew. His last words were, “I’ll reward you with a quick death.”

Leaving the manor, Ye Mo felt the trip worthwhile. Tens of millions might not be significant, but learning about the snow fox’s value certainly was.

He’d forgotten to ask Edward about Yin Si.

Mesica’s Chinese Back Street was poor, but some still prospered. Ross was one, but he’d forgotten his roots. He’d changed his name from Liu Luosi to Ross and looked down on the poor.

He still sometimes hired workers from there.

He lay in Mesica’s best hospital, recovering from oral surgery. He didn’t expect compensation from Ye Mo.

In a small house, a skinny, ugly woman sat in a tattered chair with two girls: a blonde, Annie, and a Chinese girl, Yin Si.

Silence hung heavy.

Yin Si said, “Aunty, if something happened to Ye Mo, we can report it to the mayor. If not, we’ll fight Liu Laosi. He conspired with Edward to scam us, but I don’t know what they could scam.”

The woman said, “Sisi, we can’t beat them. Ye Mo, he—”

Her voice was beautiful, like a teenager’s, yet her face was old and ugly.

She seemed lost in thought.

“Sister Sisi, the jade statue wasn’t broken, right? Why did they say you broke it?” Annie asked.

Yin Si remembered. “Yeah, I saw a crack. But after Ye Mo touched it, it was gone!”

“I don’t know. I saw a crack,” Yin Si confirmed. It was eerie.

“Annie, what were you doing at the underground boxing ring?” Yin Si asked.

Annie was going to tell them after Yin Jia won, but said, “Jiajia wanted to participate, so we signed her up—”

“What?!” Yin Si leaped up. Her brother was fighting there? People died there! She charged out; Annie followed.
