Chapter 658: Suspicious Woman

Just as Ye Mo pulled the two women from the tunnel, the sound of frantic footsteps approached. When they were less than ten meters from the guard post, two more figures emerged from the tunnel. Annie and Kaya feared the worst, but Ye Mo quickly pulled them behind an old oil barrel. The barrel was far too small to conceal them effectively.
Seeing this, Annie and Kaya nearly panicked. Kaya instinctively tried to speak, but Ye Mo swiftly covered her mouth. Kaya stared in shock as their pursuers looked around, seemingly oblivious to their presence. Their position baffled Kaya. Ye Mo, sensing her silence, was about to remove his hand when a wet tongue licked his palm.
Ye Mo frowned at Kaya's behavior. Something felt amiss. This was the second time; he didn't consider himself particularly attractive, especially not to a widow who seemed to be throwing herself at him. Furthermore, he'd heard from Xu Yuehua that Rodd's wife was beautiful, but also loyal and traditional. Since her husband's death, she'd dedicated herself to charity with her daughter, leading a virtuous life. This behavior was entirely out of character.
While he hadn't initially planned to investigate, Kaya's actions raised his suspicions. He used his spirit sense to examine her, quickly detecting minuscule traces of energy, similar to that of mutants. Using the level system Xu Yuehua described, he assessed her as, at most, a level one mutant, though he couldn't determine her specific abilities. He checked Annie, finding her to be ordinary. He didn't examine Kaya further; a level one mutant would pose little threat, even to Luo Yue.
Two white men emerged from the tunnel. Upon failing to find Kaya and Annie, their expressions changed drastically; they fled, shouting for help.
Ye Mo contacted Xu Yuehua, informing her he'd found the two women and requesting a pickup.
Xu Yuehua was astonished upon receiving Ye Mo's call. He'd only recently left Luo Yue, yet he'd already located them—at a military base! Even a plane couldn't achieve that speed. While this wasn't the first time she'd witnessed Ye Mo's extraordinary abilities, she still marveled at his capabilities.
Xu Yuehua informed Ye Mo that Yu Miaodan was near Bayi Strait, having met with Liang Jun's group. She instructed him to wait about half an hour for a helicopter.
Ye Mo wanted speed, needing to keep the nuclear submarine within his spirit sense's range.
Meanwhile, Annie was bewildered. They'd hidden in plain sight, yet remained undetected.
"Mr. Ye, thank you for saving us, but how did those two miss us? Could this small barrel really obscure our view?" Annie asked.
Ye Mo smiled, avoiding mention of his invisibility. "It was a blind spot, and their anxiety widened that blind spot."
This was, of course, a fabrication.
Time passed quickly. By the time the helicopter arrived, the two men had returned to the tunnel, perhaps realizing the futility of their search.
Ye Mo led Annie and Kaya out as the helicopter landed. Yu Miaodan and Luo Fei descended with two Luo Yue Special Ops soldiers.
Yu Miaodan rejoiced at their rescue. Even though only two hours had passed, Luo Yue had already received demands for an explanation from the English Prime Minister (who was en route to the US) and the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs (also heading to the US).
Failure to handle the situation would result in severe consequences, potentially sparking another war, or at the very least, significant reparations.
Before Annie could speak, Ye Mo gestured for the soldiers to take them. He needed to speak with Yu Miaodan.
Seeing Ye Mo remain behind, Kaya approached and hugged him, whispering, "Dear Ye, please come with us. I feel unsafe without you."
Through Annie's translation, Ye Mo replied, "You should return and tell your story. I will investigate the organization that abducted you. I intend to avenge you."
Revenge was a pretext. He suspected Northern Sand's involvement; at least, they weren't from the Black Sun Empire, lacking their insignia.
"I'll wait with Annie," Kaya said, a hint of disappointment in her eyes. Her regal bearing was undeniably alluring.
"Remember to explain everything—it will greatly assist me," Ye Mo said, waving them away.
Luo Fei looked at Kaya with disdain. "Little witch, she dares seduce people with her looks."
Ye Mo chuckled, then addressed Yu Miaodan. "Sister Yu, Kaya is suspicious. Sister Yuehua's information may have been superficial, but this woman is strange. I suspect she's a mutant, though I lack proof. Send them away after their explanation; we're not afraid of them, but we lack the time to deal with them."
Luo Fei seemed relieved that Ye Mo hadn't been swayed by Kaya.
Yu Miaodan nodded. "Understood. I'll ensure their statement is released promptly. You're not coming with us?"
Ye Mo produced a camera. "Here are the identities of the five individuals. Release this with their statement. This should clear Luo Yue's name. And tell Ye Xing there's a nuclear submarine under Bayi Strait, undetected by our radar."
"What?!" Yu Miaodan and Luo Fei gasped.
Yu Miaodan considered the implications. Had that submarine attacked during her negotiations, the repercussions would have been catastrophic. Even without casualties, the death of the Indonesian representative on Luo Yue's fleet would have triggered another conflict with the Union Army.
Ye Mo, understanding her apprehension, smiled. "It's not as dire as you think. I believe they can only avoid our radar, not dare attack. Don't underestimate Ye Xing."
"You're not going to investigate that submarine yourself, are you?" Yu Miaodan realized the inherent risk.
Ye Mo nodded. "If I'm correct, the technology evading our radar is from Ye Xing. Ask Ye Xing for a solution, and don't worry about me; I won't do anything reckless."
