Chapter 125: Medical Genius Girl
Monica's retort enraged Patrick. He was deeply distressed; everyone was withdrawing their funds, pushing him toward bankruptcy. He had initially liked Monica and treated her well, but his feelings had drastically changed.
"Monica, you dare talk back? Look at the damage you've caused! Everyone is mocking me! I considered forgiving you because of Pamela, but the birthday party was a humiliation! And Olive? She's Elvis's wife—all because of you!" Patrick yelled.
Monica, equally furious, retorted, "Patrick, you're selfish! You only care when we're valuable. You claim to love Pamela, but you only love yourself!"
Patrick stepped forward and slapped Monica, sending her crashing onto the sofa. She staggered up, covering her face. "Patrick, you hit me again! We're fighting!"
She lunged at him. He grabbed her neck and slapped her repeatedly. The scene was terrifying. Terrified servants hid in a corner.
Pamela entered, witnessing the fight. "Stop!" she said calmly.
Patrick and Monica reluctantly separated. Patrick's face was scratched and reddened; Monica's makeup was ruined, and slap marks marred her face.
"Pamela," Monica cried, clutching Pamela's hand, "Your father hit me! He thinks we're useless!"
Patrick glared at Pamela, his favorite daughter. His usual smile was replaced by a cold snort. "Pamela, have you seen Boss Augustine? Are you trying to make him divorce Olive and marry you?"
Pamela replied calmly, "Dad, don't worry. Elvis will divorce Olive and marry me."
Patrick's expression softened slightly. He said, "Pamela, I've always had high hopes for you. I spent a fortune on you and gave you Olive's mother's medical book—an extremely valuable text. Old men in the city are still searching for it. Even one volume is incredibly valuable."
Pamela's medical skills had skyrocketed thanks to the book. She'd studied acupuncture for years without success, but the book transformed her into a medical genius.
"Dad, who was Olive's mother? What's her connection to Imperial City?" Pamela asked.
Patrick, reminiscing, showed a mixture of loss and nostalgia. "I don't know much. I only know the Silver Medical University originated in Imperial City. It's powerful—beyond our understanding. An old acquaintance might know more, but he never spoke of it."
Olive's mother remained a mystery. Pamela remained silent, sensing a powerful, mysterious force behind her. She was shocked by just the first volume; she wondered how many more existed. The book had been willed to Olive, but Patrick gave it to Pamela, believing Olive would waste the knowledge.
This revelation excited Pamela. "Dad, Olive only has a high school degree and no medical talent. Elvis is infatuated, but it won't last. I've contacted Professor Ruger of the Holy Nile academy—my tutor—and he's flying to LA."
Patrick's eyes widened. "Really? That's fantastic! Professor Ruger's arrival will change public opinion. You're far more talented than Olive."
Pamela, avoiding further humiliation, remained cautious but confident in her talent. "Dad, I'm tired. Please don't fight. If this gets to the press, it'll be a scandal."
Pamela left. Monica reached for her hand. Pamela, still resentful about Monica's interference with her marriage plans, coldly withdrew her hand and went upstairs. Monica, feeling defeated and alone, realized a fatal rift had appeared between her and her daughter. Her relationship with Patrick had also deteriorated. She felt lost and defeated.
