Chapter 14
Marvin and Olive, still a bachelor, stood opposite each other. Even from a distance, they appeared a perfect match.
Elvis stopped, his heart aching at the scene. He hadn't expected Olive to be at the party, but it turned out to be the same party his aunt was hosting. He instantly realized the talented medical student his aunt had mentioned was Olive! The girl Aunt Bounty wanted to set up with Marvin was also Olive! Elvis's handsome eyebrows instantly furrowed. He slipped his left hand into his trousers pocket, then, raising his lips, called out,
"Mrs. Augustine!"
His low, commanding voice reached Olive's ears. Recognizing it, she turned and saw Elvis. He had removed his coat, revealing a handsome black shirt and trousers that highlighted his strong physique. Why was he here?
Olive quickly gathered her dress and ran towards him, but her long dress tripped her. Marvin lunged forward to catch her, but Elvis was faster. He extended his strong arms, wrapping them around her waist and pulling her into his embrace. Once she was secure, he reprimanded in a low voice,
"What are you doing here?"
Shocked by the fall and the near-ruin of her dress, Olive stabilized herself in Elvis's warm embrace, then looked up at him.
"Mr. Augustine, I didn't expect to see you here. I'm excited, but why are you here?"
Elvis lowered his eyelids, gazing at her beautiful face. He then released her. Olive stood, waiting for an explanation.
"Bounty is my aunt, and Marvin is my brother."
Olive's eyes widened. The principal of Holy Nile School was his aunt, and Marvin, the pharmacy-dwelling guy, was his brother!
Bounty's shock mirrored Olive's. She gasped at the sight of Elvis hugging Olive. What was going on? She had been about to introduce Olive to Marvin when Elvis arrived.
"Olive, what's going on? What's your relationship with Elvis? Isn't Elvis already married?" Bounty asked, trying to comprehend the situation.
Olive's eyes reddened; she sensed Elvis's anger. When asked about her relationship with Elvis, she replied awkwardly,
"Yes, Principal, Mr. Augustine is my husband."
Bounty's eyes widened in shock. Elvis's gaze fell on his aunt.
"Aunt, I apologize for this abrupt meeting," Elvis said.
Bounty remained speechless. The girl she liked so much was married to her least favorite nephew. She remembered the rumors about Elvis's bride—that she was only a high school graduate. This was outrageous, considering Olive had earned a double master's degree at fifteen.
Bounty looked at Olive with a complex expression, her mind racing. She wondered if Olive knew about Elvis's illness. Elvis's gaze shifted to Marvin.
"Marvin, I haven't yet introduced you to Olive, my wife and your sister-in-law."
His words were forceful and commanding. Marvin stood coldly, silent. His black eyes fell on Elvis's hand still around Olive's waist. He noted how easily Elvis could have broken her slender waist. His gaze darkened. Bounty stared at Olive wistfully.
Olive, sensing the tension, quietly tugged Elvis's sleeve.
"Mr. Augustine, it's getting late. Let's go home."
A faint smile touched Elvis's lips.
"Aunt, Marvin, Olive and I will be leaving. If you're free, I'll treat you to dinner tomorrow."
With that, he put his arm around Olive's waist and headed for the door. Before leaving, Olive waved to Bounty and Marvin. Elvis quickly escorted her out.
Bounty remained awestruck. She turned to Marvin.
"Marvin, did you know Olive was married to Elvis?"
Marvin nodded.
"Yes."
"Really? I wanted to introduce you two! I can't believe Elvis kept his marriage a secret!" Bounty exclaimed, frustrated.
"Aunt, I'm going home," Marvin replied calmly.
Bounty stopped him.
"Marvin, does Olive know about Elvis's condition? Does she understand everything? And tell me the truth—do you like Olive?"
Marvin remained silent, but started to leave.
"Marvin!" Bounty called. "I don't know what happened between Olive and Elvis, but I doubt they're compatible. If you like Olive, go for her!"
Marvin paused, turning to look at her. Bounty nodded emphatically.
"I'm certain Olive hasn't been intimate with Elvis. She's still a virgin!"
The ending is repetitive and awkwardly phrased. I've removed the redundant repetition of the book title.
