Chapter 176: Cold, Let Go
Olive had lost her mother when she was nine. She'd had no opportunity to study medicine with her or even to simply chat. This was the first time she had seen her belongings in eleven years.
Her mother's medical skills were a treasure trove, mysterious and profound. Olive's current abilities were barely comparable to her mother's weakest.
Olive's clear eyes shone with a firm, dazzling light.
"I'll be back again!"
Dean Sebastian watched her intently. He admired not only her medical skills but also her tenacity and courage.
Olive stood and said to the dean, "Dean, thank you for your help. Marvin and I are just friends. My husband wouldn't appreciate this, and I'm afraid I can't assist you further."
Dean Sebastian scoffed and lowered his head.
"Dean, I'll go," Olive said, bowing slightly before heading for the door.
From behind her, Dean Sebastian muttered, "Olive, please keep your phone on. We still need to plan the operation. And don't worry about the institute's issues, okay?"
Olive smiled, nodded, and added, "Dean, Director Hudson isn't to blame for anything, okay?" She then left the office.
The Red Villa.
Bounty was at the Red Villa when Elvis arrived. A dutiful daughter, she was the principal of Holy Nile Academy.
"Elvis, dear, welcome! Come have dinner with us," Old Mrs. Samantha said lovingly.
Elvis had returned for a document. After retrieving it, he looked at his grandmother, whose eyes overflowed with love.
Elvis nodded. "Okay."
Mrs. Samantha hoped her daughter, Bounty, and grandson, Elvis, could get along peacefully.
The three sat down to dinner. Mrs. Samantha turned to Bounty and asked, "Bounty, where's Marvin? Why didn't he come today?"
Bounty pursed her lips. "Mom, it seems Marvin went to the academy."
"Marvin's an imperial academician, his talents unparalleled. The imperial city awaits his return. Isn't he wasting time at the Ivory Council? What's the plan?" Mrs. Samantha asked.
"Mom, Marvin will return to the Imperial soon. He's been here over a year, searching for a girl," Bounty explained.
Mrs. Samantha showed interest. "Oh, really? Which girl?"
"Two years ago in the imperial city, Marvin and this girl rescued an old man on the street. They performed surgery there, shocking the medical community. Marvin fell in love at first sight, but after the man was sent to the hospital, the girl quietly left. When Marvin chased her, he learned she'd taken a train to LA," Bounty said, taking a sip of water.
"Marvin dropped everything and came to LA to find her," she added.
Old Mrs. Samantha was relieved. Marvin already had a girl, meaning he wouldn't be vying for her granddaughter-in-law, Olive.
"Elvis, if you have time, ask Marvin for a description of the girl. You could help him find her," Bounty said.
Elvis nodded. "Okay," and took a drink of wine.
Bounty sighed. "Although I wasn't there, the surgery was amazing. Marvin used a knife, the girl golden needles. It was a stunning combination of Western and ancient medicine. Mom, you know Marvin's discerning. For him to like her, she must be extraordinary. Besides Olive, I can't think of another girl skilled in acupuncture. Could the mysterious girl be Olive?"
Initially, Bounty hadn't considered Olive, but on reflection, she thought they were a perfect match.
Suddenly, a clattering sound echoed as Marvin threw his knife and fork onto the table.
Bounty looked up, meeting Elvis's deep, narrow gaze. He glanced at her, wiped his lips with a napkin, and said, "I'll go, Grandma," before leaving the dining room.
The previously harmonious atmosphere became tense. Bounty's face paled. Elvis's coldness was unnerving, especially his blatant disregard for her as his aunt.
She had only mentioned Olive; why the outburst? Bounty's expression turned cold. As a daughter of the Augustine family, she was accustomed to getting her way. Who dared to snub her?
Just as she was about to speak, her phone vibrated. Her eyes widened as she read the message. She looked up at Elvis's stiff back.
"The girl who performed surgery with Marvin, the one he fell in love with at first sight… is Olive!" she declared.
"What?" Mr. Henry, setting down dessert, looked up. Mrs. Samantha, who had been quiet, froze.
Elvis paused at the door, but didn't turn around. The dim light illuminated his black suit.
Bounty said, "Marvin and Olive met two years ago. Marvin is an academician; Olive a talented medical professional. Elvis, you're a thorn in Olive's side. Your marriage was a mistake. Don't imprison her. You can't give her a future. She doesn't belong to you. Let her go!"
