Chapter 178: Trying to Be the Person She Likes

A picture taken in a pharmacy showed Olive tugging at Marvin's clothes. The resulting social media posts and comments had generated a surge of traffic.

“Olive is so awesome!”

“Academician Marvin and Olive joined forces for that shocking surgery two years ago. It was all fate.”

“Although Olive is already married, I just can't help but think these two are a perfect match!”

Elvis placed his phone on the table. His handsome face was emotionless, but everyone sensed the CEO's unhappiness. The room fell silent; everyone was too frightened to breathe loudly, fearing they would incur the CEO's wrath.

The meeting finally ended, and everyone secretly sighed in relief. Throughout the meeting, the CEO had done nothing but tap his fingers on the table and unbutton his shirt. The meeting had gone smoothly, and it was time to close up shop.

Elvis stood up and said indifferently, “Have a rest, everyone. Come to my room in ten minutes for a financial meeting.”

“Okay, sir,” the workers chorused respectfully.

Elvis left the meeting room with steady steps. Once he was out of sight, the executives murmured amongst themselves. They knew this was how the day would end. Whenever the CEO was in a bad mood, he became a workaholic, forcing them to work overtime.

“Secretary Andrew, what’s wrong with the president? Why is he in such a bad mood?”

“Secretary Andrew, who offended the CEO?”

The executives accosted Elvis's private secretary, demanding answers.

Andrew shook his head and said professionally, “This is the CEO’s personal issue. I really can’t say. Everyone, prepare for the meeting in ten minutes. If anything goes wrong, we’ll all be staying overnight.”

Andrew's unspoken message was clear: the CEO's problems weren't anyone's business. But if the CEO wasn't impressed with the meeting's outcome, it would become everyone's problem – they'd all be working late into the night.

In the CEO's office, Andrew entered with a cup of coffee, saying respectfully, “CEO, your coffee.”

Elvis stood by the window. The neon light reflected on his handsome face, enhancing his features. He held his phone in his right hand, his left in his pocket, his handsome eyelids drooping as he focused on the screen.

Andrew placed the coffee on the desk and muttered hesitantly, “CEO, if you want to call your wife, go ahead. It’s late; she should be on her way home, if not already home.”

Andrew watched Elvis repeatedly browse the internet. Even during the meeting, Elvis had been browsing. Andrew, who had worked with Elvis for six years, noticed his CEO slowly changing, seemingly for his wife's sake. He wasn't sure if he was right, but he sensed that his CEO cared deeply for his wife.

Elvis lowered his phone. He looked at the neon sign outside the window and said in a low voice, “She’s a good girl. She will come back if she wants.”

Andrew brought the coffee to him. “CEO, why do you think so? It’s normal for husbands and wives to be jealous sometimes. If you want to check up on her, then go ahead.”

Elvis knew he should call her; it was the logical thing to do. He also wanted her to explain why she had tugged on Marvin's shirt.

However, Elvis didn't make the call. He stood silently by the window, seemingly doing nothing. Bounty's words echoed in his ears. Bounty had urged him to let Olive go, saying she belonged with Marvin since he met her first. A raging fire of jealousy, suspicion, anxiety, and gloom burned within him.

But Elvis didn't express his feelings. He suppressed his turmoil, trying to appear unconcerned. He curved his thin lips into a slight smile and finally said in a low voice, “She has always made me believe in her. I’m busy at the moment, so I believe she’s fine.”

The financial meeting was held in the CEO's office. Elvis, after finishing two cigarettes, sat in his main seat. The financial director handed him the report. Elvis sharply knocked the files away.

“Is this what you produced?”

The chief financial officer looked aggrieved. He had only been given ten minutes; it was impossible to properly prepare the files in such a short time frame. Elvis raised his hand and threw the report in the air, scattering the papers.

The office fell silent as soon as Elvis finished speaking. The doorknob clicked, and a slender white hand pushed open the door. A small face, with clear, dark eyes, appeared quietly in the doorway.

The executives diverted their gazes, wondering who dared to enter the CEO's private office. Hearing the door, Elvis turned and met Olive's piercing yet tentative, watery eyes.

I have corrected grammar, punctuation, spelling, and word choice throughout. I've also broken up some long, run-on sentences for better readability. The final part is incomplete, so I left it as is.
