Chapter 42: She's a Little Maid

Olive turned and quickly ran upstairs to the bedroom. She stood by the window, watching Elvis and Rita walk over from the lawn. They lowered their eyes and smiled at each other. The cool breeze blew gently, and Rita's skirt brushed against Elvis's black trousers. They looked very intimate and ambiguous.

He'd actually brought a woman home. Then what was she? Was that woman his lover?

Olive's slender fingers twisted her dress; she felt angry and uncomfortable. The feeling took her breath away.

She walked to the bed and sat down. Suddenly, the bedroom door opened, and Elvis walked in.

"Here he is!" she thought.

Olive raised her eyes and looked at him. "Mr. Augustine," she said, "you're back."

Elvis had seen her from the lawn, but she had hastily run upstairs and hidden in the room. He couldn't help but say, "Today, I brought a guest back. Rita is our company's public relations director."

"Oh, I saw her," Olive muttered. It turned out to be the public relations director.

"What do you think?" he asked.

"She has a pretty face and a good figure," Olive replied, her tone pretending to be relaxed, but her fingers were twisting her dress.

Elvis raised his eyebrows and sighed. "I'm not getting any younger. You've repeatedly drawn a line between us. Maybe one day, after the contract is settled, you'll pack your things and leave. A man can't live without a woman, right?"

Olive snorted. Couldn't he really be without a woman?

"Also," he continued, "you said Grandma is old and wants a great-grandchild. I need a woman to give birth to my son."

Olive couldn't refute his reasoning. She lowered her lashes, feeling unhappy.

Elvis walked closer, held her chin, and asked, "What's wrong?"

Olive ducked to prevent him from pinching her face. "Don't touch me."

"What's wrong?" Elvis laughed softly. Despite the mask, his fingertips gently pinched her face.

Olive tried to knock his hand away, but Rita appeared at the door. Rita's smile vanished when she saw Olive sitting on the bed, looking like a frustrated little girl, and Elvis standing tall and upright.

Rita was completely taken aback. The Elvis she knew was calm and powerful. She had never imagined this side of him.

Elvis withdrew his hand from Olive's face, his narrow eyes falling on Rita. "Are you looking for me?"

His doting and teasing demeanor had vanished instantly. He had returned to his usual cold and distant look; there was no warmth in his eyes.

"Elvis, who is this?" Rita muttered.

Olive stood and said to Rita, "Director Rita, I'm a maid here."

"Maid?" Rita asked suspiciously.

"You two take your time. I'll be on my way," Olive said, and walked out.

Elvis's eyes followed Olive. When Rita noticed his gaze on the maid, she said, "Elvis, the Red Villa is so big. Can you show me around?"

"If you need a tour, find someone else," Elvis said, and walked out of the room.

Rita was left alone. She admitted she had long been attracted to Elvis. The man was too charming: wealthy, famous, handsome, mature, and with a clean private life. However, he had an air of abstinence, not allowing any woman close.
