Chapter 53: Olive Isn't Your Daughter
Patrick slammed the divorce papers onto Monica's face, causing her pain.
"What's this?" Monica looked down at the papers. "Divorce Agreement," she read.
"Divorce? Patrick, you actually want to divorce me?" Monica stared at him in disbelief, her body trembling.
Patrick's face was gloomy. "Go outside and see what people are saying about me. I can't hold my head up anymore. Hart Medical is on the verge of bankruptcy, and it's all thanks to you."
"All thanks to me?" Monica's anger flared. She snatched the papers and roared, "Patrick, ask yourself: How did I help you after our marriage? How much did I give to you, to this family?"
Patrick sneered. "Did I tell you to sleep with another man? Monica, you're a shameless bitch!"
Monica froze, tears welling up. "Patrick, I used to be in the entertainment industry. It's normal to haveconnections. Didn't you say you didn't mind my past? I allowed another man to touch me because I wanted to help you. Patrick, why don't you keep praising me for being virtuous and capable?" She sniffed, wiping her eyes with a bruised hand.
"Enough! Monica, don't claim you did all that for me and my family. I think you did it for yourself. You wanted to secure the matriarch position at all costs"
Monica laughed hysterically. "Patrick, you want to divorce me now because you feel I'm useless to you. You think I don't know you've always been in love with Trisha, Olive's mother?"
Patrick clenched his fists at the mention of Trisha.
"Why can't I mention her? I want to mention her! Patrick, you're a pitiful creature. You love Trisha, but she never loved you. Olive isn't your daughter, and you know it because Trisha never let you into her room," Monica spat.
"How could someone as gorgeous as Trisha fall for you? The Hart family was just a temporary stop for her. Yet you still think about her every second. After all these years, you still can't forget her!" Monica sobbed.
Patrick's eyes reddened. He closed them, fighting back the urge to strangle her. "It's useless. Go ahead and sign the papers."
He stormed out. Gabriella saw him and tugged his sleeve. He glared at her angrily. "Look at you, spoiled and willful, raised by your mother. You're a loser. Don't bother me."
Patrick started to leave, but then saw Olive's slender figure in the corridor. She stood calmly. Their eyes met; despite her mask, he sensed her breathtaking beauty.
His expression unreadable, he turned and left.
Gabriella went to Monica and cried. "Mom, is Dad going to divorce you? How can he be so ruthless? What are we going to do?"
Monica crumpled the divorce papers and threw them away. She wouldn't consent to the divorce; she wouldn't leave the Hart family. She wouldn't be discarded like trash.
Footsteps sounded. Gabriella exclaimed, "Dad, did you change your mind?"
But it was Olive, not Patrick. Monica's eyes burned with hatred. "What are you doing here?"
Olive sat down, poured tea, and smiled faintly. "Of course I came to see you. What other reason?"
"Olive, I'm going to kill you!" Monica threatened, tugging at the sheet. Her bruised body ached from the movement.
Olive looked at Monica. "You said you wouldn't fall as long as you were valuable, but your reputation and connections in the entertainment industry have collapsed. You've become a disgrace to the Hart family and shamed my father. You went from valuable to worthless, and he quickly gave you your deserved divorce certificate."
"Monica, since returning from the orphanage, I've been thinking about making you experience what I went through ten years ago—losing loved ones and being betrayed."
Monica gritted her teeth. She'd underestimated Olive. "Olive, if I'd known, I would have killed you ten years ago! I shouldn't have given you a chance to live!"
Olive calmly finished her tea. "You should regret not killing me that day, because this is just the beginning."
She left, saying, "You're worthless. You're not worth my time."
Monica felt a bitter taste in her mouth; she almost spat blood. But she suppressed it and laughed. "Olive, do you really think your father will divorce me? Let me tell you something: Pamela is back!"
Pamela, the pride of the Hart family, Patrick's favorite daughter, and LA's top socialite, even reignited Gabriella's hope.
"Olive, my sister is back. Ten years ago you couldn't compete with her, and you still can't."
Olive's eyes lit up. "That's great. I've been waiting for this day for a long time."
