"Adrian, put me down," I yelled. I'd been shouting at him for several minutes, but he was deaf to my pleas, continuing to walk in some direction I didn't recognize.
What infuriated me most was his slow pace; he moved as if he were an elderly man.
"If you want to help, walk faster! My secretary, Damia, is waiting outside, and she's an omega. I'm afraid something will happen to her."
He responded, "What about you? Aren't you an omega, too? Who gave you the audacity to come into this dark forest at night? What if something happens to you?"
I frowned. "Excuse me? Who are you to scold me? Who gave you the right?"
He looked down at me. "Will you shut your mouth, or…" he paused.
"Or what? What will you do?"
His gaze drifted from my eyes to my lips. "Or I will shut them my way."
I averted my gaze. "Don't make me hurt you, Adrian. I can be a very unpleasant experience for you."
"Oh really? How so?" His tone was taunting, goading me.
It's impossible to forgive this man. Every painful memory resurfaces, especially the agony of my pregnancy. How could I forget what he did? The pain remains, a gaping hole in my heart.
I raged at myself for even speaking to him. I clenched my jaw, closed my eyes, and my claws extended in fury. How dare he consider me weak?
When I wrapped my hands around his neck, he seemed surprised by my sudden action. He scoffed, "See? Now you realize only I can help—"
He froze. Something pierced his upper back, just below his neck. I'd roughly scratched him to inflict maximum pain.
He groaned, eyes squeezed shut, enduring the pain.
I chuckled. "I'm not the woman you think I am. I can be far colder than you ever were to me."
His eyes, now red, showed his wolf shared the pain. "Who are you?"
His question stunned me. I retracted my claws. Had they gone too deep? Had they erased his memories?
"How can your claws retract so easily? A normal wolf can't do that."
I smirked. "Not everyone has the same abilities. A large wolf doesn't automatically grant every power."
I noticed a smile in his eyes. Suddenly, an itching sensation in my arm made me jerk in his arms.
"A giant wolf and all its abilities—that's Alpha Adrian," he said proudly, smirking.
I looked down; he was brushing his claws against my arm. How can this man possess such power? Is he the moon goddess's favorite child or something?
I tried to get down, but he tightened his grip. "Trust me. I know the way. I'll help you get back to your secretary." His tone was calm, almost reassuring.
Knowing arguing was futile, I remained silent, letting him help me. After a while, I heard a voice. "Boss, where are you?"
"That's Damia!"
"Relax. We're going there," Adrian assured me.
His knowledge of my car's location was shocking. How did he know? A realization struck me.
I punched his chest. "Did you do this on purpose?"
"What?" he asked, ignoring the blow.
"How did you know where I was going? You lured me, you were near the road, you trapped me."
"And you were trapped!" He winked.
"Put me down, you scoundrel!"
He ignored me, continuing toward the streetlights. We found Damia near a tree, about to enter the woods to search for me. Relief flooded her face, then surprise at seeing me with Adrian.
"Put me down," I muttered angrily.
Adrian ignored me, approaching the car. The driver opened the back door for me; Adrian helped me inside and closed the door. He turned to Damia, who followed them to the car. Damia blushed, averting her gaze from Adrian's bare chest.
"Take care of your boss. Her leg is wounded," he said to Damia before disappearing back into the forest.
"Boss, his back is bleeding!" Damia whispered.
"We shouldn't care," I replied.
Moments later, he was gone. I stared blankly. He could have left me to die.
Damia touched my leg. I looked down; she was examining my ankle.
"What was he talking about, Boss? Maybe he saw blood and thought it was yours. Did you step on a bird's nest?"
I frowned. Damia reached for a tissue to clean my ankle.
"Don't touch it, let me," I said.
"No, it's okay, Boss, let me."
She wiped my ankle. "Boss, there's no wound. It's fresh, like you've never been hurt."
