The moment I heard the pack fighters, I took a step back. Gazing around wide-eyed, I nearly fell. My mind raced; fear quickened my heartbeat. One by one, my gaze fell on my family.
My parents looked shocked. I slowly looked at my babies, tears blurring my vision. I couldn't suppress them; I was too weak.
A war meant countless deaths, mostly from Alpha's family. I couldn't lose anyone. What about my children? How could they survive?
Fury pierced my heart. "Backstabber," I muttered, clenching my jaw. How could Adrian do this?
My parents and brother turned. I couldn't face them. This was all my fault. I shouldn't have entered their lives; I'd brought them so much suffering.
"Natalia, don't worry. I'll handle it," my brother said, returning his gaze to the pack fighters.
"Announce war against the Crystal Blood Pack before they reach our border." They immediately stood and nodded.
"Tell everyone to get ready and head to the forest. I'm coming with them."
Everyone left after receiving the order. Eric went to call the Gamma to prepare. This unexpected war left the Blue Blood Pack unprepared. A clash between the two largest packs was imminent.
Jason rushed to his bedroom for weapons. Returning, he looked at everyone.
"Mom and Dad, stay inside the pack house," he said, then glanced at me. "Don't let her go. I don't want to lose her. Even if I die, someone must take my place."
I was in shock, but his words brought tears. I rushed to him, hugging him tightly. "Brother, please take me with you."
He patted my head. "No, my little baby. You have to be safe."
I broke the hug, pleading, "Please."
He shook his head, taking a deep breath. He was already ill. How would he fight?
He hugged our parents, their faces etched with grief. "Return victorious," my father said.
He was a former Head Alpha; he couldn't break down. But my mother, though a former Luna, was also a mother. She couldn't bear to see her son go to war. One Alpha's death was inevitable.
Jason approached my twins, bending to hug them.
"Always care for your mommy. Never leave her side; protect her," he told Noah.
I covered my mouth, sobbing. Noah, though young, nodded seriously, "I promise, Uncle. I'll take care of Mommy."
Jason kissed his head and turned to Aria. "You're my queen. Remember Uncle loves you, wherever I am."
I bit my lip, controlling my emotions. This wasn't defeat; it was what Head Alphas did before war.
No one knew the future, who would die.
A pat on my shoulder. I turned to see Eric. I hugged him, crying. He stroked my back. "Take care."
I shook my head. "Please, don't die. Don't let my brother get hurt." I repeated this, unable to express my feelings.
"Mommy, why are you and Grandma crying?" Aria asked, approaching.
I looked away, having no answer. Eric hugged Noah and Aria.
"I hope we meet again."
"Why are you saying that, Uncle?" Noah asked, confused.
Eric smiled, rubbing their heads. "Nothing. Just a little fight; we'll be back soon."
"Fight?" Aria asked, glancing at Jason.
Jason gave everyone a final glance and headed for the door.
"Jason, my son, don't go! Stop the war! You're not well!" My mother cried, trying to stop him.
"I may be unwell, but I'm not a coward. My pack believes in me. I can't die without fighting."
My mother wouldn't let go, but my father pulled her away.
Eric was about to follow when I stopped him.
"Eric, return unharmed. I hope we win the war."
His stare caught me off guard. Then he spoke:
"It's a war between Jason and Adrian. One of their deaths is inevitable."
