Listen to this chapter:

I returned to my family's room, unsure what to do. I felt paralyzed. Adrian's words hadn't suggested he'd harm my children, but why separate us? It was clearly punishment. If he expelled us from the pack, where would we go? And what about Jason's treatment?

Passing a slightly ajar door, I peeked inside. Gamma Benjamin groaned in pain. Opening the door fully, I saw him dabbing at his neck in the mirror. I recognized the wound—my bite from the war. The guilt of my misunderstanding and the pain I'd caused was overwhelming. He'd only been protecting his Alpha from me. He reminded me of our traitorous Gamma; he could have been different, shown loyalty, and perhaps averted this situation.

"You!"

He saw me in the mirror and turned. Noticing he was shirtless, I quickly looked away. He retrieved his shirt and put it on, groaning slightly as the collar touched his wound.

I sighed and entered, speaking softly, "It's okay. Calm down."

He paused. "Why are you here?"

"Sit down."

Confusion etched his face. "What?"

"Sit down. Let me treat your wound."

He seemed surprised. "Excuse me? Why would you do that?"

I fetched a first-aid kit from the closet and approached him. The kit caught his attention, and he sat. His frustration with the wound was evident.

Stopping before him, I gently examined the wound, lifting his chin with my finger.

"I didn't realize the Alpha Wolf was his ex-wife," he muttered, staring at the wall.

I opened the kit and took out a knife. "Even if you had known, you would have attacked me."

He said nothing, but frowned at my hand.

"What will you do with that knife? Are you planning to kill me?"

I deliberately cut my palm. His eyes widened.

"What the hell!"

His reaction was understandable. To explain, I said, "My claws and canines are poisonous. The wound won't heal quickly; only my blood can cure it."
