Adrian’s POV
“Adrian, should we cancel the pack meeting?” Beta Patric asked.
I stared at the folder on my desk. Several months had passed since I’d started losing projects to the Blue Blood Pack. I had no idea what was wrong with my company; my employees’ hard work seemed to be in vain. I won every project in our pack meetings, but against the Blue Blood Pack, we always lost.
Rumors circulated that a new CEO had taken over the Blue Blood Pack’s company – Jessica Martin, Alpha Martin's previously unknown daughter. He hadn't given the company to his son, Alpha Jason; instead, he'd handed it to Jessica.
I couldn't believe a woman, only recently arrived, had snatched all my projects. I couldn't deny her business acumen, but it felt like she was targeting my pack, consistently choosing the projects I wanted. Why?
“Adrian,” Patric repeated, trying to get my attention.
I rubbed my forehead and looked at him. “What?”
“Did you hear me? Should we cancel the pack meeting?”
“Is there any intelligence coming from the Blue Blood Pack?”
He shook his head. “No. No one is coming from that pack. Silver Moon Pack will attend to see their presentation, just as they wanted to view ours.”
“Cancel it,” I muttered.
Patric was silent for a moment, observing me. “Are you okay?”
“Do you think I’m okay? I hate those people. First Eric, then Alpha Jason, and now the new CEO. Losers! They never dared to face me directly, but always stole my projects behind my back.”
Patric chuckled. I frowned. “Do you think this is funny?”
Patric leaned forward, hands on the desk. “Though you’re my Alpha, and we’ve been friends for a long time, Adrian, this project isn't crucial to our pack, given its high potential.”
His words stung. I looked away. “Go back to your work, Beta.”
He laughed at my cold tone. “You can intimidate anyone, but not me,” he said, rising and walking to the door.
He reached for the doorknob, hesitated, then turned back. “Stop thinking about her, Adrian. She’s gone from your life. You say you despise her. Why do you keep thinking about her?”
I clenched my fists. Just thinking of her made my blood boil. She’d left my pack with the Blue Blood Pack’s Alpha. What was she doing with him?
I’d considered looking for her, but photos and videos—videos I hadn’t deleted—had stopped me. My wolf, however, was a traitor, constantly mentioning her. Why couldn't he forget Natalia?
This was all because of the mate bond. I sometimes wondered if rejecting her as my mate that day would have changed things. The thought of rejecting her made my wolf growl. My heart trembled at the idea, a testament to our bond. She must be trying to find an Alpha to mark her, the only way to break an Alpha's mate bond, I thought, clenching my jaw.
Seeing I wasn't responding, Patric left.
That evening, I went to the pack house to see my father. Lynda was there with my parents. She'd been trying to impress them, and I’d say she’d succeeded.
Their laughter ceased as they saw me. I sat opposite them. Lynda sat beside my mother.
I looked at my father, who seemed calm. The Wolf Vine Cure had healed his wolf, restoring his health. "How's the company doing?" he asked.
“Good.”
“I heard you lost another project.”
I narrowed my eyes. “Did you plant a spy in my company?”
He chuckled. “Don’t forget who once ran this company. Many of my old employees are still there.”
I sighed. “Yeah, I lost it. But I’ll get everything back from the Blue Blood Pack.”
Lynda touched my hand. “Blue Blood Pack? You mean Alpha Jason’s pack?”
Her words brought back that night—the accident, the loss, the betrayal. We weren't together; she was no longer my wife. Yet, how could she…
My phone rang. It was my Gamma.
“Alpha, I got a call from the Blue Blood Pack’s Gamma. Alpha Jason invited you to a grand party for his sister this weekend.”
