Listen to this chapter:

Patrick stared at Lynda as if surprised by her interruption.

“Why do you need to know everything?” he demanded angrily.

Lynda frowned. “Why are you treating me like this? You didn't even listen that night and forcibly brought me back to this pack.”

I understood Lynda wanted to stay with the Blue Blood Pack, but Patrick had forced her return.

“It was my Alpha’s order,” Patrick replied. He added, “And I’m going to be your Alpha’s Luna.”

Her voice remained steady.

I disliked her calling herself my Luna. Why? Hadn't I promised her that position years ago?

“Lyn—”

“No, Adrian. You have to tell him who I am to you. He treats me terribly; he shows me no respect,” Lynda complained.

Patrick glared at her. Lynda apparently believed him to be calm and collected. He was my best friend, and Lynda was my girlfriend, so he al-

“Shut your mouth. I’m already losing my mind,” he warned.

Lynda cried, clinging to my arm. “Did you see how he treated me? He’s not even afraid of you.”

Patrick rolled his eyes, as if suspecting she was exaggerating.

But Lynda wasn't that type of woman; she was simply emotional.

I patted her shoulder. “Don’t cry. He’s just worried.”

“Worried? Do you know either outcome could change everything? I'm asking again, Adrian. Are you sure?” Patrick warned.

“Yes, I’m sure.”

He nodded and left.

Lynda looked bewildered. When I went to my room for my phone, she followed.

“Adrian, what were you two talking about?”

“You don’t need to know,” I replied, leaving the room.

At the door, she grabbed my arm.

“You always do that. Do you know how embarrassed I felt when you left me outside the party hall that night? What am I to you? You never acknowledge—”

I was losing my patience; her questions were overwhelming.

“If you can’t stay with me, leave. I won’t stop you.”

I opened the door. She hugged me from behind.

“Why are you saying this, Adrian? Don’t you love me anymore?”

I had no answer. She released me and faced me, cupping my cheeks.

Her tearful eyes made me feel pity, though not the same pity I felt for Natalia’s tears.

“I’m an orphan. I have no one but you. Leaving me is like killing me. Do you want me to die?”

She removed her hands, wiping away tears. My gaze fell on the scar on her hand.

I closed my eyes, haunted by the past. I wouldn't forget that she had saved my life.

Opening my eyes, I saw her fragility. I had to protect her; I owed her so much.

“Don’t cry. I’m not leaving you.”

She hugged me, her mood instantly brightening.

After comforting her, I went to work.

Two days passed. To avoid thinking about Natalia, I immersed myself in work.

Today, the doctor would send the reports. I felt a strange contentment at the thought.

My thoughts drifted to the children, and a sense of responsibility grew. But then Natalia’s image intruded, overshadowing the children. I couldn’t forget her—her new look, her confidence, everything consumed my mind.

While preoccupied, I received a message. It was from my mother:

“Harold said your father is fine. Lynda was with us at the hospital today. I think she really cares for you, Adrian. She’s trying to win your dad’s heart.”

I locked my phone, ignoring her words; I awaited something else.

A knock came, and Patrick entered before I could respond. He looked desperate, like me. My best friend—I saw his concern in his eyes.

He held a white envelope. “Here’s the report. I didn’t open it. You should read it first.”

I nodded, tore open the envelope, and took out the report.

For the first time, I felt nervous. I opened it; my eyes fell on bold red letters. My brows furrowed in anger.

“Negative?”
